Winifred Bagnall auditioned for the part of Alice, as did Pauline. Instead of quoting from a play, Winifred sung and danced. When she heard that Pauline got the part instead of her, she chucked a temper tantrum and became Pauline's understudy.

Posy's mother gave her away because they had no money, but in the basket where she layed were a little pair of ballet slippers that later fitted Posy when she worked with Madame Fidolia.

Garnie's parents died in a boat accident and Nana took her to Gum, her only living relative. Gum was a paleontologist and taught Garnie everything he knew. When Gum went to travel overseas, he gave Garnie and Nana the house. Every three years for nine years Gum sent a baby to Garnie and Nana to look after.

Miss Dane wished to rent a room in Gum's house, but on one condition: that the three girls would audition for Madame Fidolia's academy. Miss Dane later became one of Pauline's, Petrova's and Posy's dancing teachers.

We find this out when they attend Madame Fidolia's academy. Madame Fidolia is Russian and asks Petrova if she speaks Russian, and if she FEELS Russian. Then Posy said that Petrova said she couldn't feel more British.

When Posy and Madame Fidolia attend the Royal Ballet, Madame Fidolia has a stroke. Posy is found by Garnie and Nana crying at the front door of their house and says that Madame Fidolia can't move her arms or legs. She then says that shes not crying about Madame, but for herself because her ballet training can't be completed.
