He moved to Thames in 1969 ending a twenty year relationship with the BBC in order to gain more creative freedom offered by the cable station.

Thames was hit by a technicans strike as they walked out and demanded more money for working the newer color cameras. The strike lasted from the end of 1970 through the first two months of 1971. These episodes are thus rarely shown in reruns as networks are hesitant to run a few episodes in black and white when the majority are in color.
