Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the flash forward at the beginning of the episode, Gene Takovic made his way back home after being spooked by the taxi driver who picked him up at the hospital. When Gene pulled the old shoe box from the bottom of his closet, what was in the "Band-Aid" container?

Answer: Diamonds

The cab driver who picked him up at the hospital last season kept staring at Gene in the rearview mirror, eventually causing Gene to leave the cab before he reached the mall. This season, we saw Gene pick up his car at the mall, drive home, and then pull out the shoe box from the back of his closet. We'd seen him take it out before in the first season when he watched a video of the "Better Call Saul" commercials, and we had a glimpse of the "Band-Aid" box then.

This time, we saw him open the box and pour out what appeared to be around fifty nice-sized diamonds. Apparently it was easier for Saul to carry his money in that manner.

He then changed his license plate, and took a long drive, listening to the police scanner along the way. He called his crew at work, telling them he'd be out a few days, and then returned home where he continued to monitor the police scanner.
2. Also in the flash forward at the beginning of the episode, we found out that the taxi driver who picked Gene Takovic up at the hospital DID recognize him as Saul Goodman. When the taxi driver confronted Gene at the mall, what did he badger Gene into saying?

Answer: "Better call Saul"

Gene Takovic's worst fear was realized: He was recognized. After his days of monitoring the police scanner, he finally returned to work thinking all was clear, but during his lunch break, the cab driver (Don Harvey) returned: "It's you! I wasn't sure but now that I see you up close, it's you!" Gene tried to pretend that the guy was mistaken: "You've got me mixed up with someone, my name is Takovic, Gene Takovic".

But the cab driver was persistent: "Just say it. C'mon, c'mon man. SAY IT". Gene caved and said the phrase that he was known for thanks to his commercials: "Better Call Saul".

The cab driver introduced himself as Jeff and didn't appear to want anything from Gene, but Gene was spooked. He went directly to a pay phone and made a call.

The man who answered recognized his voice: "We've delivered to you before, haven't we?" It was Ed Galbraith aka The Disappearer aka The Vacuum Cleaner Repairman. Gene agreed to double the normal price because as he told Ed, he "got made". But as Ed gave Gene the appointment date, Gene said that he'd changed his mind: "I'm gonna fix it myself".

This was one of the final appearances for actor Robert Forster who portrayed Ed. He died in October 2019 from brain cancer.
3. Lalo Salamanca was trying to figure out what Werner Ziegler and Michael were doing for Gus Fring. When he asked Nacho and Domingo if there was anything going on with the operation, they mentioned hearing complaints about what?

Answer: Product quality

After the events of last season, Lalo was curious about what Werner Ziegler was building for Gus Fring. He quizzed Nacho and Domingo about the names Werner Ziegler and Michael, but they denied knowing anything. When Lalo asked if anything was going on with the Fring side of the operation, Nacho and Domingo admitted getting complaints that the product was not the same quality as before. Lalo then went with Nacho to a derelict apartment complex where their dealers were selling meth to examine the product. Just by appearance, he determined that several of the packets weren't Salamanca product, and then he took a taste to confirm his belief.
4. At the rundown apartment complex where the Salamanca crew sold their product, how was the meth delivered to customers after they made their payment to the man at the curb?

Answer: Down a drainpipe

The apartment complex was the same site that Lalo visited to test the product. Customers would drive up and hand the money to a man sitting out front. He would then signal to a woman in an empty upstairs apartment. She would remove the purchased amount from a chair cushion and deposit it down a drainpipe.

The drainpipe ran down the side of the wall between two buildings, and the customers would pick up the product when it fell through the pipe to the ground.
5. What did Saul give away as a promotion to let his criminal customers know that he was now a practicing lawyer?

Answer: Cell phones

Saul had to let his cell phone customers know that he was now in the lawyer business, so he held a promotional event giving away cell phones which had his cell number on speed dial, and business cards offering 50% off nonviolent felonies. Kim advised him not to do so: "I'm just worried about how this reflects on you".

She was thinking about it appearing as if he was trying to convince people to commit crimes, but he thought she was referring to the discount itself: "When you're right, you're right. What am I doing cutting prices?" He said that this was why their relationship worked, "When I go too far, you pull me back". Kim was trying to be supportive, but when she asked why Jimmy/Saul was doing this, he said: "I can't go back to being Jimmy McGill. Jimmy McGill the lawyer is always going to be Chuck McGill's loser brother." So Saul Goodman announced himself with a bit of a circus event: Red and white tent with Huell working as a bodyguard.

There was even a cart giving out free churros. Saul told his customers: "I'm not just the cell phone guy. I'm a lawyer who's going to fight for you. Zip your lip and press the button. And poof -- Saul Goodman is there".
6. When Lalo met with Gus and Juan Bolsa to discuss his concerns about the operation, what did Gus claim that Werner Ziegler had done?

Answer: Stole two kilos of product

Lalo met with Gus and Juan Bolsa to discuss the inferior product. Gus had apparently already shared the story with Juan, so he now told Lalo. He claimed that Werner Ziegler was working on a construction project for the restaurant business, and that Ziegler became aware of the other operation. Gus said the Werner stole two kilos of product, and Gus admitted that he (Gus) replaced the stolen product with local product. Gus apologized to Lalo that "some of this inferior product went to your operation".

After listening to Gus's confession, Lalo hesitated, and then asked "What construction project?" Gus was prepared for this. He took Lalo and Juan to see construction on a new chicken chiller: "Our product is never frozen". He had the Germans working there and Mike supervising them: "These are Ziegler's men working from his plans.

As far as they are concerned, their leader has gone home". Lalo wanted to meet Mike, and Mike was forced to shake his hand. Juan seemed satisfied, but Lalo's comment about it being a nice southern wall probably meant that he didn't buy it.
7. With the lab construction project on hiatus, Werner Ziegler's team now had to be dealt with. What happened when the men were driven to a remote site in the desert?

Answer: Mike punched Kai

Mike and another man took the workers to a remote spot in the desert, and while it initially looked ominous, Mike told them, "If you were gonna die, you'd be dead already". Instead, they were given travel documents and rental cars to drive to various airports to catch flights home. Mike told them that they were being paid for the full job even though it was only half done and that their continued silence was expected: "Not a word.

Not today, not next week, not ever. If you let your end down, there will be consequences".

When he gave Kai (Ben Bela Bohm) his documents, Kai told Mike that it needed to be done, referring to Ziegler: "He was a good man but in truth he was soft" and Mike responded by punching him in the face, knocking him down. When fellow team member Casper (Stefan Kapicic) was called to get his documents, he told Mike that Ziegler "was worth fifty of you". Mike just looked at him, no argument.
8. When Gus told Mike that the construction project was on hold until Lalo was gone, what did Gus offer Mike that Mike refused?

Answer: A retainer

After Werner Ziegler's men had boarded their flights, Mike reported to Gus. When Gus asked if the men would keep quiet, Mike said that "they know the consequences". He also reported that the entrance to the lab had been sealed: "Nobody's gonna stumble on it". Gus told him that work was on hiatus until Lalo was gone but that Mike would be kept on retainer. "You're going to pay me to do nothing... even after Ziegler?" Mike asked.

When Mike then asked about Frankfurt, Gus informed him that Ziegler's wife had been told that there had been an construction accident: "The attorney spent a full day with his wife... the funeral was yesterday, and of course, she has been compensated".

The perfunctory response from Gus upset Mike, and he angrily told Gus to keep his retainer and walked out.
9. With the unwitting help of ADA Oakley, Saul ran a scam to promote his services to potential customers at the courthouse. How were Saul's college kids film crew involved in the scam?

Answer: They ambushed Oakley for a fake news interview

Assistant District Attorney Oakley (Peter Diseth) had just obtained his potato chip lunch from the vending machine and was walking down the hall when the film crew stopped him, with Saul's makeup girl (Hayley Holmes) playing the reporter: "Mr. Oakley! Mr. Oakley! Would you care to comment on the Carl Gravenhorse case?" She continued to press him for a comment, and while he fumbled for words, Saul loudly approached: "Excuse me... that's my client you're talking about...I'm Saul Goodman, and Carl Gravenhorse is 100% innocent". Saul continued to complain about the D.A.'s treatment of his client, while Oakley looked at him askance and said, "You're WHO?" The conversation had attracted a crowd, and after Oakley left, the makeup girl asked Saul what his name was. Saul promoted himself: "I'm Saul Goodman, and I make it my business to defend the citizens of Albuquerque against injustices of any kind".

The sound guy (Julian Bonfiglio) then asked for a business card, for a friend of course, and then several members of the crowd that had gathered asked for business cards too.
10. Kim had obtained a plea deal for a pro-bono client, but the young man wanted to take his chances at trial. She initially declined Saul's offer to scam the kid into taking the deal but soon changed her mind. What did she lead the young man to believe?

Answer: The deal was revoked due to new evidence

Kim had a client Bobby (Roland Buck III) facing two to four years in prison due to prior convictions and she got him a five months deal: "Five months, with overcrowding you'll probably do less than two". Kim told him that going to trial would be a mistake - he could end up with a lot more time.

But he wanted to go to trial; he thought that the jury would see his big eyes, his pregnant wife and child, and they'd believe him. Saul suggested that Kim pretend that he (Saul) was from the DA's office and that there was new evidence and the deal was being pulled. Kim told him that she wasn't going to scam her client, and the more Saul pressed, the angrier she became.

But when Saul left, Kim told her client that the DA was taking the deal off the table.

She said she didn't know why but it was possibly due to new evidence, and they wanted to make an example out of him. The client then changed his mind and wanted the deal. Kim said she'd try to get the deal reinstated if he was sure that's what he wanted. Kim told him to wait while she checked, but she instead went into a stairwell, flung her briefcase to the ground and appeared to wrestle with her morals over the issue.
