Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The opening scene of the episode showed a young Kim Wexler in front of a school, waiting for a ride home late one evening. Why did she refuse to ride with her mother?

Answer: Her mother was drunk.

Kim was about twelve years old, and she was standing alone in the dark in front of Red Cloud Junior High School with her cello. Her mom finally arrived, apologizing for "losing track of time". She claimed she'd only had one beer, but Kim said, "It doesn't smell like one beer" and refused to get in the car.

Instead she said she'd walk home, to which her mom replied, "Really? You're gonna walk three miles with a cello?" Kim strapped the cello to her back and headed out with her mom driving slowly beside her, trying to get her into the car.

But Kim was standing firm, and her mom finally drove off, "You never listen!" The flashback showed that at a young age, Kim knew when to walk away from a bad situation, which made it harder to understand a decision she made later in the episode.
2. Saul had an elaborate plan for going after Kevin Wachtell which involved on-location filming of commercials, but when his college kids film crew told him how long it would take, he opted for something simpler. Where did the crew end up filming?

Answer: At the nail salon

At the end of the last episode, we saw that Kim had discovered something in the photos that Mr. X had taken of Kevin's home office. Saul had envisioned using an old Mesa Verde commercial as a template and filming people complaining about the bank using the same locations.

The crew told him it was possible but it was going to take much longer than the day or two that he wanted plus "we have mid-terms". So he instead opted for filming at the nail salon, creating a green screen backdrop to allow the various performances to be edited in to the scenes. Saul spent quite a bit of time enthusiastically directing the filming to get just the right performances he was looking for.
3. When Kim arrived to the location where Saul was filming the commercials, what information did she give him regarding her plans to go after Kevin Wachtell?

Answer: She wanted to end it.

Kim told Saul she didn't want to go forward with the commercials against Mesa Verde; she just wanted to end it and move on. She told Saul that Rich was suspicious about her actions already and thought that he'd figure out that she was involved in the commercials.

But Saul was too enthusiastic to quit and tried to talk her out of it. He claimed that Rich didn't know a thing and couldn't prove anything. Kim said that it might be true, but that it wasn't worth it: "We'll negotiate as far up as we can, and then I'll make up the difference". Saul finally said that it was her decision, and the two of them went into the nail salon to help clean up. Later, Rich and Kim had a conference call with Paige and gave her the news that Acker had decided to settle.
4. Mike met with a librarian who had seen Lalo at the Travel Wire store before the clerk's death last season. She had given the police a description of the man but didn't have any other information. What did Mike "help" her to remember about that day?

Answer: The model of a car in the parking lot

Mike went to the library, bought some books that were discounted, and then asked to speak to Lillian "Lily" Simmons. It turned out that Lily had been a witness to the Travel Wire shooting last year, when Lalo killed the store clerk. Mike introduced himself as a private detective named Dave Clark. Lily said that she went to the store to send money back to her parents in Taiwan, as she does every month.

The door sign said "closed", and she saw a tall, dark haired man with a mustache at the desk. She said she came back later and the place was in flames. Mike tried to get her to remember the cars in the parking lot, asking if there were any distinct-looking cars there.

She said she thought there was an older model car in the lot. Mike then showed her a picture of Lalo's car; she asked if that was the car, but Mike was vague and wouldn't commit to an answer. Lily then said that "now that I look at it, yes that was the type of car it was". Mike then asked Lily to call the detective and tell him that she remembered that detail. Lily said that she didn't remember which detective it was, but Mike had the name and number: Detective Tim Roberts, and he waited while she called. Mike later stopped by the police station and planted an inner office envelope addressed to Roberts with more evidence against Lalo.
5. After lobbing bowling balls at Howard's car last episode, Saul continued his tormenting of Howard. Whom did he send to interrupt Howard's business lunch with Cliff Main?

Answer: A pair of prostitutes

Saul had a court case with two prostitutes, and after declining their offer of services, he told them to "be careful. Try not to get picked up again". Then he had another idea; as the women walked away, he chased them down and asked "how much for an hour of your time?" The next scene showed Howard arriving for lunch with Cliff Main.

The two joked about a judge who was in a relationship with his twenty-two year old law clerk: "I guess she's been filing a different type of brief for the judge," Howard chuckled.

The two prostitutes then walked in to the restaurant and stood by Howard and Cliff's table. When Howard asked if he could help them, they told him that "Joe Dog ain't happy. You owe us" and called him Howie: "You can't take a ride on a Carnival Cruise and only pay for a tugboat". Cliff offered to leave, but Howard told him he didn't know the women while the women continued to talk. Howard finally stood up: "I don't know any Joe Dog or Tug Boat, so we can end this right now".

He tried to escort them out, but they started screaming. Meanwhile, Saul was watching from across the street with binoculars: "No Cliff, these are not my hookers".
6. Kim, Rich, Kevin, and Paige were expecting to meet with Saul to settle the Acker case, but Saul had something else in mind. He instead played a video of the commercials he made in which people leveled various charges against Mesa Verde. What was one of the outrageous accusations against the bank?

Answer: The bank fees were used to fund terrorism.

Saul arrived a bit late for the meeting, but after introductions, Kim got to the point: "As discussed, considering we're only contractually obligated to pay $5,000 on top of fair market value... we believe $45,000 is more than generous". Saul then said that "you and I have a different definition of the word 'generous' because that's not how I would describe it". Kim said that they weren't going to offer more than that, but Kevin said, "let's just hear the number you're looking for".

When Saul said four million dollars, Kim just stared daggers at him. Rich thought it was a joke, but Kim knew better: "We had an agreement". Saul shot back, "We had a discussion". Kim was furious; she apologized to Kevin and Paige, and said, "We have to end this meeting now so that Rich and I can have a conversation with Mr. Goodman", practically spitting out his name.

She desperately tried to get Kevin to leave, but Saul wanted to play a DVD that had Kevin's dad (Jay Johnston, one of Bob Odenkirk's "Mr. Show" co-stars) in it, and Kevin wanted to see it.

The video used the old Mesa Verde commercial featuring a young Kevin and his dad and had bank customers superimposed over the commercial talking about the evil things the bank had done to them: Evicted them from their homes, exposed them to black mold, and exposed them to sexual abuse. But the best one was the man who questioned the bank fees: "The bank manager couldn't explain where all the extra fees were going. So I followed the money trail. The evidence was as clear as day. My bank was funding terrorism". Incidentally, at the time the show first aired, there was a "suemesaverde.com" website set up for other victims of Mesa Verde to list their complaints.
7. After playing the Mesa Verde commercials, Saul then moved to his second tactic, which involved Olivia Bitsui, a 92-year-old Navajo photographer. What crime did Saul allege that Mesa Verde had committed against Mrs. Bitsui?

Answer: Copyright infringement

Kim argued that Saul couldn't blackmail the bank by running the commercial: "It's unethical". Saul agreed and moved on to the case of Olivia Bitsui who was a 92-year-old photographer living on the Navajo nation. He then showed a photo she had taken "which looks remarkably like the official Mesa Verde logo". Kim repeatedly told Kevin NOT to say anything, but he ignored her: "I know this picture, my Dad bought it fair and square, I have a copy of it hanging in my office at home". Saul then stated, "I think we all heard Mr. Wachtell admit that he owns a copy of Olivia Bitsui's photo". Kevin agreed, "That's right. We own it", but Saul straightened him out: "You own a copy of the photo. You don't own the rights to it. That's copyright infringement". Saul told them that they would have to take down all their "horsey logos" until the case was settled which could take years. Saul then left the meeting, whistling "We're in the Money" as he went.

Incidentally, Olivia Bitsui is the name of Jeremiah Bitsui's daughter; he portrays Victor on the show.
8. In the end, who settled the Mesa Verde/Acker case with Saul?

Answer: Kevin

After Saul left the meeting, the lawyers debated among themselves how to deal with the case, while Kevin sat there stewing. When he got up to leave, Kim stopped him, "I know you're upset but don't do anything rash. Let your lawyers take care of it". He said he was going to the men's room, but he actually called Saul, using the phone number that was in the ad.

He met Saul in the parking garage. He told Saul, "you're a third rate huckster who'd sell your mother's organs to get what you want", but he wanted to settle the case and asked what it would take. Saul told Kevin to imagine "a world where Mr. Acker gets to keep his house plus the $45,000 you were going to pay him for his pain and suffering. And in this world, you throw in a public apology... and Native American photographer Olivia Bitsui is compensated $200,000 for the use of her photo in addition to receiving future credit for the inspiration and the use of the logo..." Kim later told Saul that Kevin wanted to be done with it and was sticking with that agreement.
9. Toward the end of the episode, Mike used a police radio to call in a vehicle sighting. Who ended up being arrested?

Answer: Lalo

Mike was sitting in a parking lot when he got a call from Nacho telling him that Lalo had just left. Mike then used a police radio to call in a sighting of Lalo's vehicle, which was now wanted by police in connection with the Travel Wire shooting from last season.

When a police car pulled up behind Lalo with its lights flashing, Lalo reached under the seat for his gun, but when two more appeared in front of him and a fourth appeared beside him, he thought better of it.
10. Following the Acker settlement fiasco, a seething Kim arrived home. After she verbally let Saul have it, what did she tell him?

Answer: They needed to break up or get married.

When Kim arrived home, Saul was sitting on the couch, playing "Smoke on the Water" on his guitar. He asked her how it went: "It was pretty perfect, right?" Kim put her jacket down and walked away. He apologized to her for "sandbagging you with the old switcharoo - I should have warned ya.

But you know what? You being angry at me. That worked. You were concerned that Rich was suspicious... that anger, real anger, it worked like a protective immunity shield. Emotion like that you can't fake it". He tried to get Kim in a celebratory mood, but he could see she was really angry.

He pointed out that "it worked. There's no way that Rich or Paige could believe that we were in cahoots 'cause guess what, we weren't". Kim let him have it: "You played ME. You made ME the sucker... you turned you and me versus the bank into you versus me". Saul tried to say that he was protecting her because she would have "plausible deniability" if he was caught.

When he said it wouldn't happen again, she told him "That's a lie... look me in the eye and tell me it'll never happen again. You can't. I don't believe you. You don't believe yourself", adding "This has to end. I cannot keep living like this". Saul started to frantically plead with her, but she had made a decision, "Either we end this now and enjoy the time we had and go our separate ways.... or maybe we get married?" The shocking ending seemed to point to one thing: Spousal immunity from testifying.

But what happened to that younger Kim who just walked away?
