In the episode "Family Secrets", Paula Hill reveals to Frank that the reason she left the police academy was that she was pregnant. Her son is Detective Joe Hill of the NYPD Firearms Unit. In this episode, Paula Hill reveals that Joe Reagan, Frank's deceased son, is Joe Hill's father. Joe Reagan never knew he fathered a son. Paula didn't want Joe Reagan to know about the baby because "they had a fling and were never each other's soulmates".

She knew Joe would want to marry her and/or be involving in raising the child.

In the season 12 episode, "Protective Instincts", Lenny, on behalf of his distant cousin, offers Frank a job as the Vice President of Security for the NFL. Frank seriously considers the offer, but in the end decides to remain as police commissioner.

Frank relies upon Garrett, Abigail and Sid and in one episode he refers to them as his inner circle. In another episode, he brings them to Bravo Bunker, the place where they would go in cases of extreme emergency. No one is allowed to talk about the place outside of Bravo Bunker.

When Frank plans the first drill to have them taken to Bravo Bunker, Garrett is not in the office. When Garrett finds out about being excluded, he is ticked. At the end of that episode, Frank brings them all together in Bravo Bunker and tells each of them they are indispensable.

At the rehearsal dinner, Frank spoke after Eddie's mother did. His remarks were about Eddie's wonderful qualities and what a great partner she is and would be for Jamie.

Sean was on a bike ride in the park with Erin, Nicky and Jack when another cyclist who was going too fast ran into Sean knocking him off his bike. Erin had Nicky call 911. Sean suffered a major head injury but survived.

In the season 10 finale, Joe Hill (Frank's grandson by his late son, Joe) is found to be working undercover for ATF. Joe's cover is eventually blown and when he finds out the family is worried about him, he calls Frank to let him know he is okay. Before Joe hangs up, he says "I love you, Grandpa".

Danny encounters Joe when trying to break up a gun buy. When he sees Joe at the scene, Danny starts to handcuff him and tells Joe to hit him. Joe and his partner (a criminal) escape. Danny is furious when he finds out that Frank knew he was working undercover and Jamie was Joe's handler in the police department. Part of Danny's anger has to do with the fact that he or his partner could have shot and/or killed Joe. If Danny or his partner killed Joe Hill, Joe Hill would have died the same way his father, Joe Reagan, died.

Frank is meeting with Sid and Abigail in his office. Sid is giving the background about Joe Hill to Frank. Frank chooses not to share with Abagail and Sid why he wanted background information on Joe Hill and why he wants to meet Detective Hill.
Frank dismisses Abigail and Sid. Abigail holds the door open for Sid and then remains in Frank's office. Frank asks Baker "Do you have something on your mind?"
She says, "No, but you do." Frank then reveals that Joe Hill is his grandson.

Peter is Frank's older brother who died of Leukemia. Peter was a little over a year old when he died. Frank was not born yet when Peter died. Henry and Betty (Frank's parents) did not tell Frank when he was growing up about Peter. They did not want him missing someone he never met.

Henry finally does tell Frank as an adult but it turns out Frank already knew. At the end of this episode, Henry gives Frank a picture of Peter.
