Walter arranges to accompany his brother-in-law Hank on a drug bust as an observer. While law enforcement agents surround and break into a house, Walter notices a man climbing out of a nearby second story window while a naked lady watches from the window. He recognizes the young man as a slacker former chemistry student.

After observing Jesse escape while Jesse's partner is arrested in a meth lab drug bust, Walter confronts his former student and advises him that they can either become partners or Walter will turn him in to the police. "You know the business, I know chemistry," Walter tells Jesse. They commence to make meth in an RV parked in the New Mexico desert.

After Walter and Jesse make a batch of methamphetamine, Jesse delivers a sample to drug dealer Krazy-8 who is a cousin to Emilio, Jesse's partner that was busted in the meth lab raid. Emilio believes that Jesse informed on him to the police, so he, Jesse and Krazy-8 drive out to meet Walter at the RV in the desert. Emilio recognizes Walter and a scuffle ensues and Jesse is knocked unconscious. Walter agrees to show the two drug dealers how he makes such a high quality product.

Instead, he mixes up a deadly gas and holds the RV door closed with the drug dealers inside.

Poor Walter has an unconscious partner and two dead drug dealers in the back of an RV full of methamphetamine as he hears sirens fast approaching. He stands in the middle of the road and unsuccessfully tries to shoot himself in the head. Moments later he realizes the sirens are from a fire truck and not the police. Back at home after his first day in the illegal drug business, Walter makes an uncharacteristic sexual advance to Skyler, to which she replies, "Walter, is that you?"
