Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the opening scene we see a matador dressed in his finest clothes. The entire stadium cheers as he majestically soaks up the applause. Then he opens one eye slightly to observe the audience and does what?

Answer: sneers

It's the little things like this that make "Looney Tunes" the greatest.
The huge and furious bull breathes stars as he storms into the arena. As the bull charges, the matador becomes more and more frightened, finally abandoning his cape and fleeing before the bull.
Chuck Jones put himself in the role of the matador in this cartoon because he would have did exactly the same-- run like heck.
2. As the bull chases the matador around the arena in "Bully For Bugs", something tunnels in. Bugs Bunny pops up and looks around. "Hey, this don't look like no Coachella valley to me." He consults his map and decides he should have done what?

Answer: taken that left toin at Albuquerque

Always calm about his situation, Bugs decides to ask the 'gent in the fancy knickerbockers', who speeds past. Bugs follows and as he asks him if he knows the shortest route to the Coachella Valley (and the big carrot festival therein). The matador ignores him and climbs over the wall in a panic.
"Eh, whats up doc?" Bugs asks.
3. In the cartoon "Bully For Bugs", the bull slides to a stop behind Bugs, breathing on his tail. "Whadda ya tryin' to do, wrinkle it?" Bugs asks as he slaps the bull. Infuriated, the bull backs off for another charge. What does he do to prepare himself?

Answer: chalks his horns

Now properly prepared, the bull charges. In a nice piece of animation we see Bugs standing planning his route with the map, the bull becoming ever larger in the background. Suddenly Bugs is gone and there is nothing on the screen but the bull's face.
4. After being sent sailing over the village (still holding the map) by the charging bull in "Bully For Bugs", Bugs looks at the audience and says what?

Answer: "Of course you realize this means war."

Another of Bugs Bunny's catchphrases. And anybody who knows Bugs knows his opponent is in for a rude awakening.
The sounds of the crowd used in this cartoon are from a recording of an actual bullfight in Barcelona. The bits of music used are also perfect for the situation, which is a Looney Tunes trademark.
5. As the bull is soaking up the applause in "Bully For Bugs", the door slowly opens. A very calm, cool Bugs Bunny in bullfighting attire stands waiting. The bull charges. At the last second, Bugs moves slightly aside, spreading his cape. The bull comes to a sudden stop with a 'clang' as he hits the cape. Bugs looks smugly at the audience and moves the cape to reveal his secret. What was it?

Answer: an anvil behind the cape

Bugs finds the dazed bull will follow the cape wherever it goes. Carl Stalling provides the music as the bull will crawl on the ground as Bugs drags the cape, or tippy toe (or is it tippy hoof?) when he holds it high.
6. Leading the dazed bull around the stadium with his cape, Bugs Bunny finally got him to charge into a wooden fence. The horns stuck through the boards. Bugs considered it a few seconds, then got a hammer and bent the horns over like nails. Chuckling to himself, Bugs cracked a couple of 'cow' jokes. "What a gulli-BULL." What did he say next?

Answer: "What a nin-cow-poop!"

However, the bull had removed his horns and stood smiling above Bugs as he cracked the jokes. He raised one hoof and 'CLOP!' Bugs was down.
7. In the cartoon "Bully For Bugs", Bugs Bunny and the bull both score minor victories by various methods. Finally, Bugs becomes bored with it. "OK, Toro, whenever you can spare the time." But Bugs is holding something behind his cape as he looks over and says "Booby trap." What is he hiding from the bull?

Answer: a rifle

The bull is a bit quicker than Bugs thought and storms past as he is explaining. We now see the bull turning for another charge, but the rifle has gone through the bull and is now in his tail. He finds the rifle will shoot when he flicks his tail down and it shoots the bullets out of his horns.

The range of expressions on the bull's face as he slowly realizes what the gun will do are classic Chuck Jones.
8. As Bugs Bunny runs from the shooting bull in "Bully For Bugs", the bull runs out of ammo. He disappears and returns with a box of ACME elephant bullets (with exploding heads). With one great 'GULPH' he swallows the whole box. What happens when he again tries to shoot?

Answer: he explodes

And once again the expression of shock on the bull's face is priceless. Now Bugs is laughing again. "What an imbessel. What an ultra maroon." But he is standing in a walkway with the door to his back closed and we hear the bull charging. After praying and making out his will, Bugs flips the door up just as the bull charges past.

The bull, not being too bright, charges all the way out of town before he stops on a distant hill wondering what happened.
9. After the bull charges all the way out of town in "Bully For Bugs", we see Bugs preparing for his return. He carries tools, boards and nails into the arena and we hear sawing, hammering and other construction sounds. What is the only item we see him actually using?

Answer: axle grease

The bull finally realizes what happened and charges back into the arena, loses his footing on the grease and slides up a ramp. Then, in mid air, a paintbrush spreads (acme) glue on his belly as he flies over. Next, sandpaper is attached to the glue, the sandpaper lights a match which lights a fuse that passes the still air-born bull. As he passes over a TNT keg, the fuse sets it off.
10. After the keg of TNT blows up with the bull sailing overhead, the now ragged bull in "Bully For Bugs" slams into a wooden fence with a shield painted on it. Bugs holds a cape over the bulls rear end which says what?

Answer: The End

According to Chuck Jones, new Warner Brothers producer Edward Seltzer told the "Looney Tunes" gang they could make any picture they wanted-- 'except one about bullfights. There's nothing funny about bullfighting'. So of course he had to be proven wrong. Jones even went to Mexico City to see a bullfight to prepare for the cartoon.

Originally Jones intended to make the picture in defense of the bull, but after seeing the size and temper of the bull he changed his mind.
