Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the opening scene we see the Acme Building and Wrecking Company demolishing the J. C. Wilber Building. An Acme employee (hereafter referred to as 'The Man') slides the lid off the cornerstone and finds a metal box. Inside is the paperwork which tells the history of the structure which was built in 1892. But something else is in the box. What is it?

Answer: a frog

The frog, of course, puts on a top hat, grabs a cane and sings "Hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my ragtime gal" as he struts around. The worker, now seeing himself as a rich man in front of a crowded theater, grabs the frog and with collar turned up, sneaks away to fame and fortune. (If he only knew...)
There is no dialogue through the entire cartoon, only the music and nearly continuous singing of the frog.
J. C. Wilber was the financer for Looney Tunes.
2. Prepared to make his fame and fortune, where does The Man in "One Froggy Evening" go first?

Answer: Acme Theatrical Agency

The Frog will perform for one person and one person only- the demolition worker. Otherwise he assumes the attitude of 'a glob of mud' without bones, which is how he acts when the talent agent sees him.
Acme was into everything back then: Construction and Demolition, Theatrical agents, Anvils, Little Red Wagons, Hot air balloons, etc. I suspect their theatrical agency was most interested in finding gullible coyotes (famishus, famishus).
3. What does the demolition worker do when the frog refuses to sing for the talent agent in "One Froggy Evening"?

Answer: sings and dances

He realizes the frog won't perform, so he quickly tries his hand at it. Overweight and unkempt, the man is kicked out with his frog... who immediately begins to sing.
The voice of the frog was a singer named Bill Roberts who sang at various nightclubs in the Los Angeles area.
4. Now The Man in "One Froggy Evening" tries to decide what to do after his frog won't sing for the talent agent. He sees a theater for rent and quickly goes to his run-down room to get his life savings. What is the name of this theater?

Answer: Hippodrome

He has abandoned his job and now uses up his life savings to get rich and famous. He is very quickly getting in over his head.
5. While The Man is cleaning his theater, we hear the frog constantly singing in the background. But we find he can do more than just sing and dance. What do we see him performing on?

Answer: high wire

He sings and does somersaults on the high wire with an umbrella, no small feat even for a human.
6. There is a lot of human nature in "One Froggy Evening". With the theater ready, The Man opens the door and prepares to usher in the crowd - but nobody comes. He tries to get them in with a 'Free Admission' sign. No luck. His third sign brings in so many people he is trampled. How does it read?

Answer: Free Beer!

Still true of people today. But of course as the curtain goes up the frog floats down with his umbrella, and only gives his long slow croak. The audience have apparently had time to come prepared with all types of fruit to bombard The Man with.
7. The Man in "One Froggy Evening" is now homeless. As he sits shivering on a park bench the frog sings opera at his side. The singing attracts someone. Who?

Answer: a policeman

The policeman looks inquiringly at The Man, who points to the frog. The frog simply 'ribbits' in his slow lazy way. The policeman hauls them off.
At this point The Man seems to be aware of his fate, simply ignoring the constant singing of the frog while the look on his face is totally expressionless.
8. After The Man is hauled off the park bench, where do we see him next in "One Froggy Evening"?

Answer: Psychopathic hospital

Chuck Jones was the best at facial expressions. The look on The Man's face while behind bars (as the frog rages beside him) is priceless.
9. Now flat broke, homeless and dressed in rags, The Man stumbles down the street in "One Froggy Evening". Suddenly he sees something which elates him. What does he see?

Answer: a building dedication

The Tregoweth Brown building is being dedicated (Tregoweth Brown provided the sound effects for "Looney Tunes"). The Man sneaks into their company workshop and dumps the frog into the cornerstone encasement, thereby ridding himself of the frog and making it clear that somebody else long before him had the same problems as he did.
10. The scene changes to the future, where we see an Acme Building Disintegrators employee using a ray gun to remove the Tregoweth Brown building. He finds the frog in the box and sneaks away from his job to seek fame and fortune. In what year does this take place?

Answer: 2056

If you're still around in 2056, 100 years after the cartoon was released, and you see a destitute man with a metal box and a frog, give him a few bucks. He's had a rough time and it may only get worse.
