Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which show would you encounter Daffyd Thomas?

Answer: Little Britain

Daffyd Thomas (Matt Lucas) was "the only gay" in his Welsh village of Llandewi Brefi. He is one of the campest characters ever to appear on British TV. Although Daffyd made much of his gayness he was actually terrified of ever meeting another gay man and went to great lengths to avoid doing so.
Daffyd became an extremely popular "Little Britain" character and cries of "I am the only gay in this office/factory/shop/bar etc" could be heard up and down the country.
"Little Britain" was first broadcast on British TV in September 2003.
2. Where would you find stroppy teenager Lauren Cooper?

Answer: The Catherine Tate Show

Catherine Tate's creation of Lauren Cooper was inspired, Lauren has appeared in all three series of the show produced so far (as of 2006) and is a hugely popular character with her catchphrase "Am I bovvered?". The then British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, encountered Lauren in a 2007 TV charity special. He turned the tables on Lauren as he asked HER "Am I bovvered?"
"The Catherine Tate Show" was first broadcast on British TV in February 2004.
3. Tubbs and Edward run the 'local shop' in which series?

Answer: The League of Gentlemen

"The League of Gentlemen" was an extremely dark series which was half sitcom and half sketch show. It broke many comedy taboos and is seen as preparing the ground for other shows which followed (especially "Little Britain").
Tubs (Steve Pemberton) and Edward (Reece Shearsmith) were a very strange couple; their local shop was only to be used by local people! If any strangers wandered in by accident they usually ended up dead! A nice welcome indeed to the town of Royston Vasey.
"The League of Gentlemen" was first broadcast on British TV in January 1999.
4. In which of these four programmes would you find roadside snack-sellers Irene and Vern?

Answer: The Catherine Tate Show

We only ever see Irene and Vern serve one customer ("Morning Neville") from their roadside snack bar but according to Irene they are innundated with celebrity visitors. Among others, they have served Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Madonna and even Henry VIII! Surely she's not making it up? Thing is, Neville never pays for his burgers ("I'll settle up on Friday") so how they keep in business is anyone's guess.
5. Dave Angel is a somewhat unconvincing eco-warrior in which series?

Answer: The Fast Show

Dave Angel (Simon Day) is a fairly new convert to environmental matters but although he seems sincere enough he hasn't quite mastered some of the basic concepts. His wife meanwhile seems hell-bent on the single-handed destruction of the planet!
"The Fast Show" was first broadcast in Britain in 1994.
6. Pauline Campbell-Jones, the distinctly unhelpful leader of Jobseekers Club, can be found upsetting the unemployed in which sketch show?

Answer: The League of Gentlemen

Pauline (Reece Shearsmith) is spiteful and vindictive to the people unfortunate enough to attend her re-start classes. She is not too bright herself but smart enough to realise that if all of these people get jobs, she will be out of work herself so her main aim is to lower their confidence ("You worthless dole scum") and keep them out of work.

Her other obsession is with pens, woe betide anybody that loses one; unfortunately the hapless Mickey quite likes to eat them.
7. In which show will you find 'John Actor' playing "Monkfish"?

Answer: The Fast Show

John Actor (Simon Day) always played "Monkfish", "A tough uncompromising cop". He is a walking cliche, parodying TV series where the lead role is played by a tough guy who gets results against the odds.
8. Prime Minister's aide and sycophant Sebastian Love will be found in which of these sketch shows?

Answer: Little Britain

Sebastian Love (David Walliams) is besotted with the Prime Minister and extremely jealous of anyone else giving the PM attention. Sebastian hates the fact the PM appears to be happily married and is always rude to the PM's wife.
9. In which show will you see the foul-mouthed pensioner Joannie 'Nan' Taylor?

Answer: The Catherine Tate Show

Why 'Nan' continues to get any visitors is a mystery as she abuses most people who come to see her. She saves most vitriol for her understanding and patient grandson who tries without success to curb her foul-mouthed outbursts. Strange thing this, most people would hate to have a real grandmother like Joannie but she has become one of Catherine Tate's best-loved characters.
10. "Yeh but no but..." arch-chav Vicky Pollard can be found in which series?

Answer: Little Britain

Vicky Pollard (Matt Lucas) usually appears in a pink shell-suit and speaks absolute gibberish in a rapid-fire manner. She is reported to be 18 years old but already has had 12 children, one of whom she swapped for a Westlife CD! She is quite contrite about that however as the CD was "rubbish".
