Answer: 'Cell Test'

Haywire first appeared in episode three 'Cell Test'. Michael had just tested Sucre's loyalty with the cell phone and found out he could trust him, so he let him know about the escape he was planning. Sucre moved cells soon after as he decided it wouldn't be worth adding another 10 years to his sentence, at the same time Haywire was transferred from the psych ward back into Gen pop. Bellick moved him into Scofield's cell as a type of punishment. The plan was halted. For the time being anyway.

Answer: He couldn't sleep

In episode four 'Cute Poison', Haywire had settled into the cell and Michael had to wait until Haywire was asleep before he could start to dig. He heard a noise and saw Haywire watching him. Haywire then informed him that he doesn't sleep. Ever. The reason behind this is because he suffers from a neuro anatomic lesion that causes profound insomnia.

He also suffers from schizo-affective disorder with bi-polar tendencies. His condition is controlled by medication, which Haywire had stopped taking, as he called them 'Invisible handcuffs'.

The first time Haywire saw Michael's tattoo he was intrigued by what he saw. He wanted to see the full tattoo but Michael wouldn't allow it. He called the drawings a "pathway to hell". He first saw the full tattoo in the shower and started to draw them soon after.

He was constantly sketching the tattoo and had pages of drawings. Late one night he cut Michael's jumper to shreds just so he could have a closer look. Michael woke and thought up a plan to get rid of him. Haywire was eventually transferred back to the psych ward and the plan was back on track.

Answer: Pathway to hell

Haywire called the tattoo's a pathway to hell. Haywire was mentally ill but also a very clever man. He knew there was something hidden inside the tattoo's but Michael wouldn't give him an explanation, which only made his will to discover what they meant more intense.

Answer: 'Bluff'

Haywire drew the tattoo in episode 18 'Bluff'. Michael had faked a breakdown so he could get himself sent to the psych ward. While he was there he found Haywire and tried to make him remember who he was. Haywire struggled as he was constantly medicated and so after the pills had been dispensed Michael took Haywire to a storage room.

The first time, Michael put his fingers down Haywire's throat and made him sick while reminding him of what he used to call the pills. "Invisible handcuffs" he said, "handcuffs on your mind." A while later, Michael felt confident enough to ask Haywire for his help, and soon enough he was drawing on the paper Michael had provided.

He eventually gave Michael the drawing but not before tricking him into telling him about the escape. Unfortunately for Haywire, Michael wasn't going to give such precious details away, and told him the wrong plan. Late that night, Haywire put play dough in the lock and managed to get out of his cell room.

He tried the route that Michael had explained but obviously it was a fake and poor Haywire was caught, zapped with a stun gun and taken back to his room.

Answer: Bicycle

After being left behind by the other escapees, Haywire had to get away by himself. He ran for a short while and then came across a garage. Inside a little girl was spinning the wheel of her bicycle, when Haywire appeared at the door. The girl didn't seem frightened and Haywire just walked in and took the bike off the table, he also found a football helmet and put it on.

He then apologised to the child and set off on the bike.

Answer: Fast food restaurant

Haywire broke into a fast food restaurant. After being on the run for a few days he was presumably hungry. He entered through the drive thru window and started searching for food. He poured ice cream into his mouth, straight from the pump, and ate anything he could get his hands on.

He only stop gorging himself when a young couple entered to set up the shop for business. He jumped back through the window and made a hasty exit.

Answer: Billy

The old lady called him Billy. She thought that Haywire was her son returning and while he took a shower and put on some different clothes, she made him a sandwich. She was sat on the couch when he entered the lounge and he became fixated with a picture hanging on the wall.

He asked her what the picture was, and she told him it was Holland. She became concerned as he should have known that if he was her son. He went back into the kitchen and the old lady quickly phoned the police, but while she was on the line, Haywire came back in with a knife in his hand.

A while later, we saw the old lady lying on the sofa, and no sign of Haywire. It seemed Haywire could've possibly killed the old lady, but when the police arrived, the old lady called out "who's there".

The police responded to her question, but looked startled by the knife stabbed into the photo frame and the picture of Holland missing.

Answer: Larry

Upon leaving the old lady's house he went to a camping store to get some things. He started to fill a bag with various items when the owner came over to him. Haywire questioned the man about his leg and the fact that he wouldn't be able to chase him. He then jumped up and ran out of the shop, the owner sent his dog out to chase him and the dog followed, barking.

It seemed Haywire had lost the dog and he spotted a boat parked in someone's driveway. He got in and got excited over the prospect of a boat. Suddenly the dog reappeared, and Haywire gave him some jerky.

The dog was happy with this treat, and Haywire had an idea to build a raft to sail to Holland on. The dog accompanied him to the lake and Haywire had made himself a new furry friend.

Answer: Apple

Haywire was stood in the bin with a half eaten apple in his mouth. He took a bite and then threw the core to the dog. He then started to search for things to build his raft with.
