Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One network in particular got my attention in 2013. Who is responsible for "Toy Hunt," "Mysteries at the Museum," and "Man v. Food Nation"?

Answer: Travel Channel

"America Declassified" follows "Mysteries at the Museum" on Travel Channel's Sunday night lineup. Another exciting, highly recommended Travel Channel original series -- one of few on my "must DVR" list -- is "Gem Hunt." On this show, a team of three experts visits exotic places and interesting cultures in search of the best bargains on rare and beautiful gemstones.
2. "The following program contains material that is just 'Too Cute.'" What network shows the program that opens with this line? (Hint: the network's slogan is "Surprisingly Human.")

Answer: Animal Planet

"Too Cute" tells kitten or puppy "coming-of-age" stories, highlighting the "personalities" of selected litter members. A narrator keeps the viewer informed and updated about the adorable pets' antics and development, and the viewer also learns about different cat and dog breeds.
3. Which of these programs airs on Discovery Fit and Health?

Answer: Both of them

This channel is not part of my lineup, but fortunately for me, TLC rebroadcasts both of these addictive series. "Monsters Inside Me" profiles patients who contracted rare diseases caused by various microbes, parasites, etc. -- hypochondriacs watch with extreme caution! "Untold Stories of the E.R." features re-creations of unusual emergency room cases, often with the doctors and nurses portraying themselves.
4. Popular TV host Guy Fieri is making quite a name for himself. Which of these shows does he NOT host on Food Network?

Answer: "Minute to Win It"

Guy is a genuinely fun personality to watch. His cooking show is titled "Guy's Big Bite." "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives," also known as "Triple D," is his interesting and funny food travelogue. Guy hosted "Minute to Win It," a game show featuring timed challenges with common household items, for two seasons on NBC.

After NBC stopped showing "Minute to Win It," GSN started showing reruns of Guy's episodes, plus they started a new version with a different host, Olympic speed skater Apolo Ohno.
5. The History Channel, especially in primetime, is concentrating more on reality TV only loosely connected with historical topics. Which of these is History's "flagship" buying and selling series?

Answer: "Pawn Stars"

"Pawn Stars" details the behind-the-scenes happenings at the Las Vegas shop, Gold and Silver Pawn. Many items that sellers bring in have some historical significance, but the "side stories" of Rick, the Old Man, Corey, and Chumlee are increasingly coming into the foreground.

"Hardcore Pawn" is a truTV program, Discovery Channel is the home of "Auction Kings," and "Storage Wars" airs on A&E.
6. Agent Sterling Archer, code name "Duchess," is an animated secret agent viewed on what network?

Answer: FX

Outrageously raunchy, "Archer" is a modern day parody of the 1960s spy thriller concept. H. Jon Benjamin, also the voice of the title character for Fox's "Bob's Burgers," provides Archer's voice on the FX series.

The egotistical title character has written a book, "How to Archer: The Ultimate Guide to Espionage, Style, Women, and Cocktails Ever Written."
7. Does "Jeopardy!" air on a specific network nationwide?

Answer: No

A production of Sony Pictures Television, "Jeopardy!" appears on different stations in different markets. For example, in the market where I live, I watch "Jeopardy!" on KJZZ, an independent station.
8. "Market Warriors" was intended to be a companion series to the enormously popular "Antiques Roadshow." Sadly, the network decided to pull the plug after a relatively short run. What network was this?

Answer: PBS

The concept of "Market Warriors" was intriguing: A group of four "pickers" would travel to various flea markets and antiques fairs around the U.S., purchase items, and resell them at auction. Whoever made the most profit from their resales would be the episode's winner. Being a PBS program, "Market Warriors" kept the shallow hype to a minimum and the intelligent content at a maximum. I miss the show terribly.
9. ABC showed "America's Funniest Home Videos" for many years. One of the logos for the series features an abbreviation of the program's title. What is the abbreviation?

Answer: AFV

This program has taught me to be extremely wary of trampolines, pogo sticks, tire swings, exercise balls, people hiding in closets, neurotic cats, neurotic dogs, birthday cakes, sledding, all-terrain vehicles, camels, llamas, ostriches, giraffes... I could go on and on.
10. SPIKE TV, a channel that markets its programs mostly to men, airs a popular, fascinating, gruesome series. Fill in the blank to complete its title: "______ Ways To Die."

Answer: 1000

Sensitive souls may wish to avert their eyes while the actors re-create the deaths of the hapless characters. The makers of the series seem to be trying to emphasize the science (biology, physics, etc.) behind death, rather like those who "read Playboy for the articles." However, I tend to view the show as a lesson in morality. True, death is a serious topic and we should feel appropriately saddened by the loss of our fellow humans, but the show's producers lighten things up a bit by painting the victims as scum -- petty, shallow, selfish, brainless, or scheming folks -- who got what they deserved. I must admit the puns used to describe the morbid demises are actually pretty funny.
