Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who rescued Princess Cornelia at Narita from Kallen and Zero?

Answer: Suzaku Kururugi

Princess Euphemia was the one that wanted Suzaku to save her sister. Cornelia felt ashamed that an Honorary Britannian came to save her; she would had only accepted help from full Britannians. With the rest of the Britannian knightmare frames either trapped from Kallen's mudslide or were too far away to arrive in time, Suzaku showed up in the fastest knightmare frame and saved Cornelia.
2. In the end of the episode "The Messenger From Kyoto", Shirley told Lelouch which family member of hers was killed at Narita?

Answer: Her father

Shirley's father was not involved in combat; he died from the artificial mudslide created by Kallen that destroyed most of the town. Before this moment, Lelouch never thought of the innocent lives that were lost while the Britannians and the Black Knights battled each other.

He was very good friends with Shirley and he felt very guilty for being responsible of her father's death. He later erases her memories with his geass about her father's death in the episode "Geass vs. Geass".
3. In the episode "Shirley at Gunpoint", Shirley learned that Lelouch was Zero.

Answer: True

Shirley noticed that Lelouch did not show up to class often at Ashford Academy and decided to follow him to see where he was going. She ended up at a battle site between the Japan Liberation Front and the Britannians. She found Zero and attempted to shoot him to avenge for her father's death but his mask fell off which revealed Lelouch's face. Shirley could not shoot him after seeing his face and left the battle.

Her memory of both her father's death and Lelouch being Zero was erased by Lelouch's geass in the episode "Geass vs. Geass".
4. In the episode "Geass vs. Geass" we learned that Lelouch was not the only person with the power of geass. A Chinese man named Mao also had geass but his was different than Lelouch's. What made Mao's geass different from Lelouch's?

Answer: He could read anyone's thoughts within a 500 meter radius

C.C. gave Mao geass before she gave the power to Lelouch. Even though Mao's geass became so powerful that he could not stop reading people's minds when they were within 500 meters away from him, he was able to focus his geass on one person only listening to their thoughts. Mao fell in love with C.C. because she was the only one he could have a conversation with, his geass had no effect on her.
5. When Mao abducted C.C. in the episode "Cheering Mao", who did Lelouch geassed to shoot Mao?

Answer: The Britannian police

With Mao's obsession with C.C., he kidnapped her and attempted to saw her legs off with a chain saw, his thought process was that she could not leave him if her legs were cut off. Lelouch managed to distract Mao with a pre-recorded conversation to give the Britannian police enough time to find Mao at the amusement park. Lelouch thought that Mao died from the many shots fired by the police but he survived. If he geassed the police to "kill" instead of "shoot" then Mao would have died there. Managing to survive the shooting and escape from the police, Mao kidnaps Lelouch's sister Nunally. Lelouch and Suzaku save her from him in the next episode "Nunally Held Hostage".
6. Prior to Mao's death in the episode "Nunally Held Hostage", he revealed someone's secret past. Who learned who's secret from Mao?

Answer: Lelouch learned that Suzaku killed his father

Using his mind reading geass, Mao revealed that Suzaku killed his father to end the war between the Britannians and the Japanese. Suzaku knew his father would refuse to surrender and he thought that this would end the war if the Prime Minister of Japan died which it did.

The adults around Suzaku lied for him and told the media that the Prime Minister committed suicide. Suzaku did not learn about Lelouch being Zero until the finale of season one which was appropriately titled "Zero".
7. In the episode "Knight" Suzaku Kururugi became the knight for which member of the royal Britannian family?

Answer: Princess Euphemia

In the royal Britannian family, any princess had the option to have a knight to protect and serve them. It was very shocking that Euphemia chose an Honorary Britannian as her knight; many Britannians thought that only naturally born Brtiannians should be considered worthy of knighthood. Suzaku accepted the position and was willing to protect and serve Euphemia at any cost.
8. As Suzaku's popularity grew with the Japanese after he was knighted, the Black Knights were worried that their group would lose support. Who in the group suggested assassinating Suzaku Kururugi?

Answer: Diethard

Diethard was the only Britannian other than Zero in the Black Knights. He was used in the group as a spy and he provided useful information for the Black Knights. He only supported Zero because he thought it would be a great story; he was a media executive prior to joining the Black Knights. Diethard never showed loyalty to the Britannians or the Japanese in the series.

His suggestion to assassinate Suzaku was denied by Zero, he wanted to capture him alive in battle. Diethard still told Kallen to try and kill him which she attempted but she was stopped by Lelouch. Even though Lelouch knew that Suzaku was his enemy now, he did not want to kill him.
9. In order to escape from Kamine Island in the episode "Island of the Gods", Zero and Kallen stole a Knightmare frame that could do what?

Answer: Travel through air

The Gawain was an experimental Knightmare and the first one that could fly, most Knightmares could fly in the next season. Lelouch, Euphemia, Suzaku, and Kallen were all stranded on this island. Lelouch and Euphemia were on one part of the island while Suzaku and Kallen were on another.

There Euphemia learned that Lelouch was Zero and Suzaku learned that Kallen was one of the Black Knights.
10. In the episode "War at Kyushu", exiled Japanese government officials launched an attack on Kyushu. Who was aiding them in battle?

Answer: Chinese Federation

Zero and Suzaku were working together against this group. Zero knew that this was an excuse for the Chinese Federation to attack Area 11 in hopes of invading it. Many of the exiled Japanese officials Suzaku knew as a child, they worked directly for his father. Suzaku and Zero won the battle and the Japanese government officials were arrested by the Britannians and the Chinese Federation withdrew any remaining forces and did not continue to fight.
11. In the episode "Declaration at the School Festival", what did Princess Euphemia announce at Ashford Academy?

Answer: She was creating the Specially Administrated Zone of Japan

This new zone which would be located near Mount Fuji would give Japanese all rights that Britannians have and that they would not be addressed as "elevens". Lelouch was mad at her decision saying that she was naive. Lelouch knew that this would not liberate the entire country and Princess Cornelia was upset that Britannia was giving up any land to the elevens. Euphemia thought that this new zone would end the war between Britannia and the Black Knights.
12. Lelouch geassed Princess Euphemia to kill all of the Japanese, did he intentionally do this?

Answer: No

This was the turning point of the entire series. Originally Lelouch wanted Euphemia to shoot him as Zero in front of the crowd with a bamboo gun at the new Specially Administrated Zone of Japan so that they would lose her trust and cheer for Zero when he "recovers" from getting shot. Euphemia thought that her idea would end the war and everyone could live in peace Japanese and Britannian alike. Euphemia also told Lelouch that his sister Nanally wanted this as well, that was the main reason Lelouch became Zero, to make a better world for her.

Lelouch agreed with the new zone but he mentioned that he could make Euphemia do anything he wanted. Lelouch said hypothetically that if he told her to "kill all of the Japanese" that she must do it, he did not want to use the geass but his geass became so powerful that it will always work when looking at someone in the face and he can no longer control it, similar to what happened to Mao. Euphemia then came outside and told all Britannian soldiers to kill all of the Japanese which created a massacre. Lelouch thought that he might as well exploit the situation and told the Black Knights that Euphemia was a tratior and that they must save the Japanese. If Lelouch did not use his geass on Euphemia, the war between the Black Knights and Britannians would have peacefully ended.
13. During the massacre in the episode "At Least with Sorrow", Princess Euphemia was shot which led to her death. Who shot her?

Answer: Zero

Lelouch knew that the only way Euphemia could stop killing innocent Japanese people is if he killed her himself. Lelouch felt terrible for using his geass on her accidentally but he knew that killing Euphemia was the only way to stop the slaughter of innocent Japanese since the geass would never stop. Suzaku sees her getting shot and takes her to the Avalon in hopes for treatment but nothing could be done. Suzaku was confused as to why Euphemia would do anything like this which was when a mysterious boy showed up and told Suzaku that geass did this to her and that Zero had this power.
14. What was the name of the mysterious boy who told Suzaku that Zero had the power of geass?

Answer: V.V.

At this point in the series not much was known about V.V. After telling Suzaku about Zero, he goes to Ashford Academy and kidnaps Nunally. C.C. had an instinct that told her that Nunally was captured but she could not explain it. She told Lelouch but he did not believe her at first.

After calling Rivalz at Ashford Academy, he knew that Nunally was not at the school. C.C. told Lelouch that Nunally was at Kamine Island and Lelouch left the battle to find her.
15. The season one finale ended with Lelouch killing Suzaku.

Answer: False

The finale ended with both Lelouch and Suzaku shooting each other but it ended with the sound of gun shots not showing what happened to either character. Suzaku followed Zero to Kamine Island where he shot his mask off revealing Lelouch's face. Suzaku thought Lelouch might have been Zero but he did not want to believe it. Zero wanted to call a temporary truce so that they could find Nunally but Suzaku was very angry at him for lying and killing so many people. Lelouch then pulled out his gun and both of them fired at each other which ended the first season of "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion".
