Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of Miss Ellie's three sons is generally regarded as her favorite?

Answer: Gary

Miss Ellie loved all her sons but Gary was seen as more in tune to the Southworths as opposed to Bobby and J.R. who were more like the Ewings. Gary preferred working the ranch and riding rather than his brothers who wanted to be in the oil business.
2. Despite the fact that her character was supposed to be seen as the loving matriarch, Miss Ellie had her fair share of lovers. Which of the following is *not* a love triangle she was a part of during the series?

Answer: Miss Ellie - Don Lockwood - Sue Ellen

Prior to the show's beginning, Miss Ellie had dated both Digger Barnes and Jock Ewing, choosing to marry the later because Jock could save her family's ranch. Later after Jock dies, she meets Clayton Farlow who is also interested in Pamela's mother, Rebecca.

In the season 10, a man named Wes Parmalee, who claims to be Jock Ewing, tries to woo Miss Ellie. She is adamantly refuses to believe Wes is Jock but, nonetheless, starts to feel something between them.
3. In season 3, Miss Ellie is diagnosed with kind of cancer that forces her to have surgery and is cause for her depression throughout the remainder of the season?

Answer: Breast

Miss Ellie goes through with the mastectomy fine, but it is the recovery that is difficult for her. She feels self-conscious and unattractive especially when she discovers that Jock had a secret wife before her that he divorced when she became ill. Later on the series, Miss Ellie struggles with whether or not she should tell Clayton Farlow about her surgery since she fears he will be put off with the scars from the mastectomy.
4. What was the name of the potential resort that Miss Ellie and Jock nearly divorced over in season 4?

Answer: Takapa

Jock was part of a land deal for the Takapa project. The problem was Miss Ellie was trying to stop the deal, not knowing that Jock was behind because he never told her. Even after she discovers this, she is still relentless in her attempt to defeat it and she believed Jock never once considered her point and whatever he chose. Eventually an alternate location is chosen for Takapa and several characters visit the resort throughout the remainder of the series.
5. What heart wrenching thing does Miss Ellie try to do in Season 6 in order to prevent her family from crumbling in the aftermath of Jock's death?

Answer: She tries to declare Jock's will as void saying he was not of sound and mind when he wrote it.

Jock had willed that both J.R. and Bobby would take exactly half of Ewing Oil and whoever could turn the most profits in one year would receive 51% and the loser 49%. The competition between the two brothers was so fierce that it was destroying Bobby and Pam's marriage and causing tension at Southfork. Miss Ellie, desperate to keep her family together, tried and failed to have Jock declared incompetent in court. Bobby and J.R. agreed after the year to just split the company 50/50 regardless of who actually did better.
6. In season 8, Miss Ellie's new husband Clayton feels uncomfortable living at Southfork. What act does Miss Ellie perform that finally makes Clayton think of Southfork as his own home?

Answer: She removes the portrait of Jock from the living room.

Clayton always felt that he was living in Jock's shadow because there were so many items of his still at Southfork. The biggest thing was the oil painting that hung in the living room. J.R. was adamant that the picture stay at the ranch, but Miss Ellie, along with Bobby, Ray and Donna, all believed that it was necessary to remove the portrait for Clayton's sake. J.R. hung Jock's picture at the Ewing Oil building instead.
7. What is it about Wes Parmalee that prevents Miss Ellie from completely dismissing his claims that he is Jock Ewing during season 10?

Answer: He knows things only Jock would know.

In attempt to prove that is actually Jock Ewing, Wes Parmalee regales the Ewings with stories that only Jock would know such as Cliff Barnes potentially being the biological father of John Ross and things he and Miss Ellie did on their honeymoon. Miss Ellie believes she must give Wes a chance because she does not want to hurt Jock, if it really is him.
8. In season 11, what is Miss Ellie doing while Clayton very nearly has an affair with Laurel Ellis, a girl from the painting he bought?

Answer: Planning a homeless shelter with the Daughters of the Alamo.

Clayton became bored since Miss Ellie was spending most of her time working on the homeless shelter. He purchased a painting and met the girl, Laurel, and the two became friendly. Miss Ellie suspects Clayton is cheating on her when she sees him and Laurel kissing friendly in a restaurant.

Her suspicions are fueled when David, the man who made the painting, lies and says Clayton and Laurel slept together.
9. By the show's final season, Barbara Bel Geddes had left the "Dallas" but Miss Ellie still had some influence. What act did Miss Ellie do that really upset J.R.?

Answer: She deeded Southfork to Bobby.

Miss Ellie gave Southfork to Bobby because he was always far more interested in ranching than J.R. J.R. believed that he should have received Southfork because he was the oldest son. We discover, in the revival series, that Miss Ellie also gave half of Southfork to John Ross of which he would receive it only on the death of his father.
10. Barbara Bel Geddes, for her role as Miss Ellie, is the only actor from "Dallas" to win an Emmy for his or her performance on the show.
