Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 2, teams completed a Detour in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and, in both cases, they had to work for money. What was done with the money when they were done the task?

Answer: It was donated to an orphanage

The first Detour task, found towards the end of the race's second leg, asked teams if they would 'Shake your Money Maker' or 'Be a Ticket Taker'. In the former task, teams needed to dress up in traditional garb and masks and dance for tips (while one team member would play a gamelan. Once they accumulated 30,000 rupiah, they could continue.

In 'Be a Ticket Taker', teams parked scooters at Mal Malioboro to earn 15,000 rupiah. After the Detour, teams needed to donate their money-- all of their money-- at a local orphanage. Eight of the eleven teams did not realize that had to give over all of their cash before checking into the double elimination Pit Stop in this leg, resulting in a severe shake-up of the placings.
2. Both Detour tasks found at the Lesehan Restaurant in Indonesia (in Leg 3) involved eating local delicacies.

Answer: False

Teams reaching the Lesehan Restaurant in the rural Salakmalang Village ended up locating a Detour task waiting for them near an open field. For this agricultural Detour, teams chose between 'Rice Field' and 'Grass Fed'. In 'Rice Field', teams needed to deliver midday meals to workers out in the fields.

After the delivery, they needed to plant three hundred grass seedlings. This was done by Kaylani and Lisa, Liz and Marie, and Amani and Marcus. In 'Grass Fed', teams instead had to fill two sacks with freshly-cut grass, collect two sheep, deliver everything to a local shed, then fill a trough with six buckets of water to get their clue.

This was done by Andy and Tommy, Laurence and Zac, Justin and Jennifer, Jeremy and Sandy, Ernie and Cindy, and Bill and Cathi.
3. In Leg 4, teams completed Detour tasks near Phuket, Thailand. Following the Detour, they were given which of the following?

Answer: Compass

In Leg 4, teams flew to Phuket, Thailand and were told to head to a marina and take speedboats to their respective Detour tasks. In 'Coral Reconstruction', selected by most teams, the aim was to construct a coral nursery on the beach and then kayak it out to the water with a tray of live coral.

When the nursery was placed and properly loaded, they could continue racing. In 'Beach Preparation', teams needed to set up twenty chairs and ten beach umbrellas to a local resort's standards to get their clue.

After this Detour, teams were given a compass and a medallion and told to travel north to get their next clue.
4. In Lilongwe, Malawi in the sixth leg of the race, teams either completed a task at a local school or in which other location?

Answer: A tailor's shop

Halfway through Leg 6 in Lilongwe, Malawi, teams found Detour clues awaiting them at the R.A.K. WWI Memorial. There, they could choose between 'All Sewn Up' and 'Not Grown Up'. In 'All Sewn Up', teams traveled to a city tailor shop in the old market.

There, they had to stitch the unfinished seams of a customer's suit jacket and pants to get their next clue. In 'Not Grown Up', teams instead headed to a local school and used their handyman skills to build two toy trucks out of recycled materials. Ernie and Cindy, Bill and Cathi, and Amani and Marcus completed the sewing task while Jeremy and Sandy, Justin and Jennifer, Laurence and Zac, and Andy and Tommy built trucks.
5. In Leg 7, how many teams were U-Turned and forced to complete both Detour options on Lake Malawi?

Answer: None

Although there was a Double U-Turn board waiting for teams at the Jamaica Shop in Chigumukile on the shores of Lake Malawi, none of the teams were actually forced to complete both sides of the Detour. In a rare instance, the team that utilized the U-Turn (Zac and Laurence) accidentally used the race mechanic on a team that had already passed them (Amani and Marcus), to the decision was useless in shifting the standings.

In this leg of the race, all teams completed a task involving dugout canoes except for Amani and Marcus (who completed the other option) and Ernie and Cindy (since they used their Express Pass to skip the task).
6. During Leg 8, only one team voluntarily opted to complete a Detour task with which type of animal?

Answer: Rabbit

Visiting Denmark in Leg 8, teams raced to Frilandsmuseet in Northern Copenhagen to find a choice between 'All Hopped Up' and 'All Churned Out', the former of which involved guiding a rabbit through a steeplechase course and the latter of which involved churning butter. Only Amani and Marcus chose the former task voluntarily, but a Double U-Turn forced Bill and Cathi and Laurence and Zac to turn around and complete the 'All Hopped Up' task before continuing on with the race. Laurence and Zac were inevitably eliminated in this leg not because of the extra task, but because of poor navigation and traffic issues.
7. In the ninth leg of the race, teams had to choose between Detour tasks involving either Lego blocks or cattle.

Answer: False

While teams visited LEGOLAND in Denmark in Leg 9, there was no Detour featured in Leg 9 as reams made their way south through Hamburg, Germany and onward to Brussels, Belgium. Oddly, there was a Detour in Leg 9, but in editing the episode it was omitted.

The Detour was to be featured at the end of the leg as teams arrived at the European Parliament Building, but since all five remaining teams chose to participate in a bodybuilding-themed challenge, the second option wasn't aired and the task was framed as a regular active Route Info task.
8. The Detour in Leg 10 took place in what Belgian city?

Answer: Ghent

Found on the Hoofdbrug, the Detour clue for Leg 10 asked teams to take care of one of two things Belgians are not in low supply of: 'Water' or 'Waffle'. In 'Water', teams needed to navigate the Lieve Canal on a pontoon boat that they created using materials provided. If they could find two halves of their clue, they would be directed to their next destination. Andy and Tommy, Amani and Marcus, and Bill and Cathi did this.

In 'Waffle', teams instead constructed a waffle stand then made and presented eighteen perfect and varied waffles to the specifications of a local chef. Ernie and Cindy and Jeremy and Sandy completed this one.
9. Which Detour task was completed by more teams in Panama City in Leg 11?

Answer: 'Sole'

In the final Detour task of the race, teams needed to work with one of two major trades found in Panama City. In 'Filet', only completed by Marcus and Amani, teams had to travel to Panama City's largest fish market, El Mercado de Mariscos, to deliver and weigh specific fish for local vendors.

In 'Sole', completed by the other three teams, they instead needed to craft a pair of sandals for a patron using no more than a piece of leather and straps. Once the cobbler approved of their work, they could continue on.
10. How many Detours were featured in "The Amazing Race 19"?

Answer: Eight

Although many seasons of "The Amazing Race" have featured up to twelve Detour tasks, "The Amazing Race 19" omitted Detour tasks in Legs 1, 5, and 12. Despite this, Legs 1 and 12 both contained a Road Block task. Surprisingly, Leg 5 instead contained two Road Blocks, the second of which needed to be completed by the team member who did not complete the first.

This may have been due to a last-minute location shift as the show was rumoured to have had a leg scheduled in Laos.
