Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 3, teams remained in Indonesia to complete their tasks.

Answer: True

Departing from the second Pit Stop of the race at Kraton Temple in Yogyakarta, Indonesia in the early morning, teams were told to make their way to a nearby station where they would be able to join in with the Dutch Colonial Bicycle Guard for a patrol route through the city of Yogyakarta to Fort Vredeburg. Teams needed to dress up in traditional uniforms before setting off and receiving their next clue at the destination.

When this was complete, teams were able to hop into taxis to reach their next destination.
2. In the 'Rice Field' Detour task in Leg 3, how many teams decided to plant rice seedlings?

Answer: Three

Teams took their taxis to Salakmalang Village in order to locate Lesehan Restaurant where their next clue would be waiting in an ornate jar. This would be teams' Detour clue for this leg of the race, a choice between 'Rice Field' and 'Grass Bed'. In the 'Rice Field' task, teams needed to deliver two traditional midday meals to workers farming in the rice paddies then take over the jobs not being done.

This involved the team members donning conical hats and planting a total of three hundred rice seedlings to the satisfaction of local workers.

When this was done, teams could proceed onwards. Kaylani and Lisa, Liz and Marie, and Amani and Marcus completed this Detour task.
3. In the 'Grass Bed' Detour task in Leg 3, teams needed to transport which of these animals?

Answer: Sheep

In the 'Grass Bed' task, teams needed to begin by filling two burlap bags with grass from a pile across the rice paddies for the other Detour task. Carrying them back across the precarious dykes, teams then needed to retrieve two small sheep from a local pen and transport both to a nearby shed where they could hand off their items. If it was determined that they had filled up their grass bags enough, they could then use two buckets to fill a total of six buckets with water from a nearby well. When this was passed into a trough, the teams could get their next clue. Andy and Tommy, Laurence and Zac, Justin and Jennifer, Jeremy and Sandy, Ernie and Cindy, and Bill and Cathi completed this task.
4. How many different types of Buddhas did teams need to observe in the counting Road Block task in Leg 3?

Answer: Four

After the Detour, teams were told to taxi to Borobudur Temple outside Magelang, Indonesia. Here, they could put on a sarong and climb to the top to get Road Block clue. For this Road Block, the selected team member needed to work in a clockwise direction around the temple to count the large Buddha statues in four distinct positions.

When they presented the values for each specific gesture (17 for all of them except the open-palm Buddha at 18) they could receive their next clue. Laurence, Tommy, Kaylani, Marie, Bill, Ernie, Justin, Jeremy, and Marcus found themselves 'prepared to follow the path to Buddha' in this leg of the race.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race in Leg 3?

Answer: Kaylani and Lisa

After the Road Block task teams were told to settle with their taxis if they hadn't already in order to head to the third Pit Stop of the race on the grounds of Borobudur Temple. Here, Laurence and Zac stepped on the mat first but were penalized by fifteen minutes for using extra buckets during the Detour task.

As a result, Andy and Tommy won a second consecutive leg of the race and a trip for two from Travelocity to Dubai. In the end it was a close race for the remaining spots on the mat but it was Kaylani and Lisa (who arrived at the temple in fourth!) who ended up becoming the third team eliminated from the race.
6. Which city in Thailand did teams visit in the fourth leg of the race?

Answer: Phuket

Teams headed out from their third Pit Stop at Borobudur Temple the following morning (beginning at 8:17am) and were informed that they would be heading to Phuket, Thailand. Rushing to the airport, teams took flights from Yogyakarta to Jakarta where they would connect to flights taking them to Phuket (either directly or via a connection in Bangkok). All eight teams arrived (though not at the same time) in darkness in the evening. Upon arriving at the Royal Phuket Marina, teams needed to wait until morning (8:00am) to access their clues at the end of a floating pier.
7. In Leg 4, how many teams finished the 'Coral Reconstruction' task in Thailand?

Answer: Two

Taking a speedboat to a beach off the mainland, teams needed to choose their Detour option for this leg. In the first option, 'Coral Reconstruction', teams needed to rebuild coral reefs after the devastating tsunami which hit in 2004. To do this, teams had to assemble a plastic coral nursery on shore and ride it and a tray of live coral out to sea on a two-person kayak. Once at a marked buoy, teams could submerge the nursery and, fighting the current, place the coral into it before receiving their next clue.

Although several teams originally planned to complete this task, only Andy and Tommy and Justin and Jennifer were able to do so. Three other teams switched halfway through the task.
8. In the 'Beach Preparation' Detour task in Thailand (in Leg 4) teams needed to organize chairs and which of these?

Answer: Umbrellas

The second Detour option in Leg 4 was 'Beach Preparation' which asked teams to stay on land to help clean up the beach and prepare for tourists by collecting twenty chairs and ten umbrellas matching with a corresponding sticker in their clue and arranging them properly on the beach to an attendant's approval. Liz and Marie, Laurence and Zac, Ernie and Cindy, Bill and Cathi, and Amani and Marcus completed this task. After the Detour, teams were given a compass and a medallion depicting their next destination: Soap Island.

Their instructions, find a bearing for north and follow it for thirteen minutes to locate their next clue.
9. The Road Block in Leg 4 (in Thailand) involved which of the following activities?

Answer: Rock climbing

Finding a clue at Soap Island, teams were asked for one member looking to become a 'King of the Hill'. For this task, teams were directed to Koh Yao Noi Island to complete the Road Block which involved climbing a sheer rock face to find a clue high up in a bird's nest. Andy, Jennifer, Zac, Amani, Jeremy, Ernie, Bill, and Marie ended up harnessing up for this physical Road Block task while their partners waited by the water.

After the task, the participating teammate rappelled down with a clue and a map.
10. Which team arrived at the Pit Stop in Thailand (in Leg 4) in first place?

Answer: Andy and Tommy

In the end of this leg of the race, teams were told to travel to the two hundred year old floating village of Koh Panyi using a map. Once there, they would proceed on foot to the next Pit Stop at the floating soccer field. Here, Andy and Tommy placed first for the third consecutive leg, winning themselves $5,000 each.

This was the first Pit Stop at which they arrived in first without another team penalized or heading back into the course before them. Liz and Marie, who faltered during a frustrating Detour task, became the last team to arrive quite a distance behind the others though they were spared in a non-elimination leg.

As a result, they would need to complete a Speed Bump in Leg 5.
