Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What show featured two friends (and their wives) who belonged to a fraternal organization called the "Raccoon Lodge"?

Answer: The Honeymooners

Americans loved the antics of Ralph Kramden (played by Jackie Gleason) and Ed Norton (played by Art Carney). Ralph was a bus driver and Norton was a sewer worker. Their wives were played by Audrey Meadows and Joyce Randolph on the original series. In the 60s the show was reprised as a regular feature on Jackie's variety show with Jane Kean playing Norton's wife Trixie.
2. One of my favorite shows of the 70s and 80s was "Alice". It was all about a waitress named Alice (played by Linda Lavin) and featured a great supporting cast. But the show was based on a movie starring Ellen Burstyn in the lead role. What was the title of that movie?

Answer: Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore

The movie came out in 1974 while the TV series ran from 1976 to 1985. The show was primarily set in Mel's Diner which was owned and operated by Mel Sharples (played by Vic Tayback). Other characters included a sassy big-haired waitress named Flo (played by Polly Holliday) and a ditzy waitress named Vera (played by Beth Howland).
3. What was the name of the park where Yogi Bear and his pal Boo Boo lived?

Answer: Jellystone Park

Ranger Smith was, of course, alive and well and was a constant thorn in Yogi's side and vice versa. This show was a part of one of the most successful animated franchises of all time: Hanna-Barbera Productions.
4. Who created "Wheel of Fortune"?

Answer: Merv Griffin

"Wheel of Fortune" debuted on NBC as part of their daytime lineup in 1975. Its original host was Chuck Woolery with Susan Stafford as hostess. The game and wheel have undergone many changes through the years. "TV Guide" named it the second best game show of all time in 2013.
5. On "Gilligan's Island" what was Ginger's last name?

Answer: Grant

Ginger Grant (referred to as "a movie star" in the theme song) was played in the series by the beautiful Tina Louise. Tina, however, refused to reprise the role in the TV movie "Rescue From Gilligan's Island" so the role of Ginger was played by Judith Baldwin.
6. On the TV show "Ironside", how did the main character come to be in a wheelchair?

Answer: He was shot by a sniper's bullet and became paralyzed

The lead character Robert Ironside (played by Raymond Burr) had been Chief of Detectives for the San Francisco Police Department before the sniper's bullet forced him into retirement. Riding on the success of his portrayal of Perry Mason, Burr parlayed this role into another successful series that ran for eight seasons from 1967 to 1975.
7. One of my favorite shows of all time was "The Waltons". In what Virginia County was Walton's Mountain located?

Answer: Jefferson

Although Walton's Mountain was a fictional location, the nearby town of Charlottesville, Virginia is not. In the original book and movie, written by Earl Hamner, the name was Spencer's Mountain.
8. On the show "Sanford and Son", what was Fred Sanford's occupation?

Answer: Junk dealer

"Sanford and Son" was the American version of the British show "Steptoe and Son". Fred Sanford was played by the incomparable Redd Foxx and his son Lamont was played by Demond Wilson.
9. Which of these was not a character on the popular children's show "Captain Kangaroo"?

Answer: Mr. Bluster

Mr. Bluster was the surly puppet on "The Howdy Doody Show". Bob Keeshan played the role of Captain Kangaroo. He was also the original "Clarabell The Clown" on the "Howdy Doody Show". Mr. Green Jeans was portrayed by Hugh Brannum.
10. On "Charlie's Angels" Charlie's face was never seen, but who portrayed him (voice)?

Answer: John Forsythe

John Forsythe made a career out of playing suave and sophisticated men. On "Bachelor Father" he was a single man about town facing the challenges of raising a teenage niece. On "Dynasty" he played oil mogul Blake Carrington. On "Charlie's Angels" he played Charlie Townsend, head of the Townsend Agency, a detective firm that utilized a team of beautiful ladies to solve cases.
