Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1987, a cop drama premiered called "21 Jump Street." Who played Tom Hanson?

Answer: Johnny Depp

That's right, Johnny Depp got his big break on TV. "21 Jump Street" was about some police officers who worked undercover, often in high schools or with troubled teens because they looked so young. Johnny Depp soon became a teen idol. Hanson's best friends were Doug Penhall, played by Peter DeLuise, and Holly Robinson played Judy Hoffs, the only female. Harry Truman Loki, who was everyone thought was Japanese, turned out to be Vietnamese.

At first, their boss Captain Adam Fuller (Steven Williams), disliked Harry, not because of the lie but because someone from Vietnam killed a friend of his during the war.

But he let go of his prejudices not long after.
2. Who were the two leading singers in the first season of "Glee?"

Answer: Rachael Berry and Finn Hudson

"Glee" debuted in 2009. It was about high school students in the glee club - their fight to get to and win sectionals, their lives, and a whole lot of good music. One of my favorite reoccurring guest stars was Idina Menzel, who played Rachael Berry's biological mother and choir director of a competing school.

Lea Michele played Rachel Berry. Aside from three episodes in season four, she was in every episode. Rachel's audition go-to song was "Don't Rain on my Parade." She dreamed of being the lead on Broadway. At first, she wasn't well-liked by the others, but she became more accepted over time.

Finn Hudson was her boyfriend through much of the episodes he was in. He joined the glee club after Shue accused him of having drugs in his locker but agreed not to turn him in if he joined the glee club. Sadly the actor who played Finn, Cory Monteith died in July 2013 after season four due to an alcohol and heroin overdose. In season five, there was a tribute episode in which they remembered Finn, but it was never mentioned how the character of Finn died, only that he had.

Michele and Monteith were dating in real life at the time of his death.
3. On the medical show "House," what is Dr. House's first name?

Answer: Gregory

"House" first aired in 2004. Dr. House (Hugh Laurie) was a genius in the medical field. However, he was addicted to pain medication. He often clashed with other doctors because he did not use conventional ways to diagnose patients.
4. Where did the students on "Beverly Hills, 90210" go to high school?

Answer: West Beverly

"Beverly Hills, 90210" first aired in 1990. Many of the actors who played the high school students were older than their characters. Gabrielle Careris was the oldest at age 29 when she first played Andrea Zuckerman. Brian Austin Green, who played David Silver, and Tori Spelling, who played Donna Martin, were both 17 years old when the show started. Greene was the younger of the two by about two months.
5. This series was a spin-off of "Beverly Hills, 90210." It starred Thomas Calabro as Michael Mancini. What show was this?

Answer: "Melrose Place"

"Melrose Place" debuted in 1992. Other actors came, went, some came again, but Calabro was the only one on the show from beginning to end. Heather Locklear was always billed as a guest star, but she was a regular cast member from the second season on.

This was due to a deal Locklear made with Aaron Spelling when asked to stay as a cast member so that she would always be listed last. She played Amanda Woodward, a heartless woman out for her own good.
6. My favorite character on this show was on the Autism Spectrum like me. His name was Max Braverman on the show. Max Burkholder played him. What show was this?

Answer: "Parenthood"

"Parenthood" was about the Braverman family and their problems and happiness. The patriarch of the entire family, Zeke, was played by Craig T. Nelson. He was married to Camille, played by Bonnie Bedilia. They had four children: Adam (Peter Krause), Sarah (Lauren Graham), Crosby (Dax Shepard), and Julia (Erika Christensen).

They were all adults with their own lives and families. Adam married Kristina (Monica Potter), and they have three children of their own, Haddie (Sarah Ramos), Max, and Nora (Mia and Ella Allan). Sarah is divorced from Seth (John Corbett), and they have two teenagers: Amber (Mae Whitman) and Drew (Miles Heizer). Crosby married Jasmine (Joy Bryant).

They have a son, Jabbar (Tyree Brown), and a daughter Aida (born in season five). Julia married Joel (Sam Jaeger), and they had Sydney (Savannah Paige Rae), and then they adopted a son, Victor (Xolo Maridueña).
7. Amy Juergens (Shailene Woodley) is fifteen and pregnant at the start of season one of "The Secret Life of the American Teenager." Ricky Underwood (Daren Kagasoff) is the father. What did she name the baby?

Answer: John

"The Secret Life of the American Teenager" ran from 2008 to 2013 and showed what it was like to live every day as a teenage mother. Molly Ringwald played Amy's mother, Anne.

Amy named the baby John at the suggestion of her sister Ashley (India Eisley). Ashley told her that John was "a basic name for a complicated life."
8. "Life Goes On" was about the Thatcher family. Their son, Corky, was differently-abled. What did he have?

Answer: Down Syndrome

Corky was played by Christopher Burke, who has Down Syndrome in real life. It was the first television show in which a main character had Down Syndrome. Corey's parents, Drew and Elizabeth, were played by Bill Smitrovich and Patti LuPone. Corky had an older half-sister named Paige, played by Tracey Needham, and Kellie Martin played his younger sister Becca. Later on in the series, Becca dated Jesse, who was HIV positive and was played by Chad Lowe.
9. Who played Superman/Clark Kent in "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman"?

Answer: Dean Cain

"Lois & Clark" starred Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain as the title characters. It ran for four seasons. One of my favorite episodes is called "Tempus Fugitive," in which Tempus (Lane Davies) tells Lois she is the "most galactically stupid woman who ever lived" because she can't figure out Clark Kent is really a Superman with glasses.

Dean Cain was born in Michigan in 1966. He has been on the board of the NRA (National Rifle Association). His career began in 1976 when he played Dean Russell in the movie "Elmer." In 2014, he played Marc Shelley in the film "God's Not Dead." His first TV appearance was in a 1989 episode of "Christine Cromwell," who played an unnamed character.
10. "The Beast" ran for one season and starred my all-time favorite actor Patrick Swayze. Why did it end after only one season?

Answer: Swayze died

Sadly, after one season, "The Beast" ended when Patrick Swayze died from pancreatic cancer. Charles Barker (Swayze) was an undercover FBI agent who wasn't overly concerned about rules. Ellis Dove (Travis Fimmel) was a rookie that Barker was training. However, Dove learned that Barker was now wanted by the FBI. Swayze was sick the entire series, as he was diagnosed with cancer in January 2008.
