Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. There was a double wedding on New Year's Eve 1999; it was not originally planned that way as the grooms were vying for supremacy. One of the wedding plans did not go well though, and the two ceremonies were combined. Which of the four insisted on this?

Answer: Melanie Healey

Mel was searching for any excuse to break the wedding off, and when she heard that Barry had asked Ian to have a double wedding, and that Ian had refused, she told him that she would not go through with the wedding if he were not generous enough to share the arrangements with the other couple.
2. Who organised the entire Square in record time while her son Frank and his bride, Pat, were at the Registry Office?

Answer: Mo Butcher

The second the couple are out of the way, she blows a whistle and the whole Square erupts into action. The market stalls are dismantled, bunting and banners are put up and trestle tables are put out. Food comes from all directions (including inedible sausage rolls and much-loved (or hated) jellied eels). This is a total surprise to the bride and groom.
3. Which bride and groom went on honeymoon even though they didn't actually get married on the first attempt?

Answer: Terry and Irene

Just as Rev Alex Healey was about to pronounce Terry and Irene 'man and wife', Louise Simmonds burst into the church and declared that Terry was still her husband. The couple decided to remain together, and arrived that their Reception party to announce that they were off on their honeymoon.
4. Whose ex-partner was tied and gagged in the Arches while she married for the second time?

Answer: Debbie Tyler

After years of being terrified of her husband Liam, Debbie finally met and fell in love with Nigel Bates. Liam showed up on their wedding day, so Grant and Phil Mitchell 'sorted it' by tying and gagging him and leaving him in the Arches with the radio playing loudly beside him so the ceremony could take place without interruption.
5. Who said: 'My kid brother has landed himself a right tasty piece. God knows what she sees in him!' as part of his Best Man speech?

Answer: Phil Mitchell

Grant Mitchell surprised Sharon Watts with a ready-made wedding day on Boxing Day 1991. His elder brother was Best Man, and this quote was part of his speech - ironic really as he was later to have an affair with his sister-in-law, which was to lead to the end of the marriage.
6. After spending the whole morning uncertain whether to go through with the wedding or not, which bride ran to the church hand-in-hand with the groom in order to tie the knot?

Answer: Laura Dunn

Laura was persuaded that Ian only wanted to marry her because she had inherited some money from her grandmother, and was not sure if she wanted to go through with the wedding. When Ian finally caught up with her, she changed her mind and they ran together to the Registry Office, just in time!
7. Who was determined to ruin Melanie and Steve Owen's special day?

Answer: Phil Mitchell

Steve's mother was also out to make things difficult, but it was Phil who went out of his way to make the day a disaster. The tables were turned, however, as it was Phil who ended up on the pavement with a bullet in his back as the closing credits rolled on this wedding episode.
8. Following a heavy Stag Night with Grant, Phil and Nigel, groom Ricky woke up in a field in Kent. However, due to a couple of misunderstandings they thought they were in which country?

Answer: France

This was in 1997. Bianca has spent her Hen Night with the girls in Walford, entertained by 'The Full Monty' type dancers - with balloons.
9. How many of Arthur and Pauline's grandchildren were present at the wedding of their daughter?

Answer: 1

Michelle had two weddings in Walford, the first was an abortive one, and the second was a 'quick nip around the corner', both with George (Lofty) Holloway in 1986. Michelle's daughter Vicki was present at both ceremonies. The next Fowler grandchild was Mark, who was born to Michelle in 1995, and then Chloe (renamed Rebecca), born to Sonia Jackson in 2000, fathered by Martin, who was himself born in 1985.
10. Which groom put up his hand to stop the wedding when the question was asked about 'lawful impediment'?

Answer: Alfie Moon

Poor Alfie had promised Kat a Christmas Day wedding, but when his first wife showed up and told him that he was still married he was against the clock to get a decree absolute to get the licence in order. He didn't quite make it! Bribing a friend to pose as a Registrar, the ceremony began, but he could not go through with it. Just as he was about to confess all to the gathering in the pub, the paperwork was brought in by his solicitor, the real Registrar phoned, and the wedding went ahead.
