Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the 1950s this actress played the very popular Miss Brooks on the television show "Our Miss Brooks." Who was she?

Answer: Eve Arden

During the production of the show, Eve Arden became pregnant. While it was still on radio it would not have been a problem. However, being 50s television where even married couples could not share a bed, a single woman could not be pregnant. Because the fact that the character was single was integral to the plot lines, they had to find some unique ways of hiding her rapidly increasing "bump."
2. This movie father of the bride started out on television's "Room 222" when he played the principal Mr. Seymour Kaufmann. Who is this actor that has been in the public eye seemingly forever?

Answer: Michael Constantine

"Everything was invented by the Greeks!" Constantine was hilarious in his role as Nia Vardalos's father in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." Windex anyone?
3. This show featured a white retired NBA player as a coach/teacher in an inner city south central Los Angeles school, with a largely African American student base. What was the name for this ground breaking show?

Answer: The White Shadow

This show always had a happy ending, and while largely improbable at times, it was a nice show to watch. As always, Ken Howard in the starring role was terrific.
4. "Head of the Class" featured a group of extremely bright teenagers and a very funny teacher. The teacher was played by Howard Hessman, who left the very successful program after a few seasons. Who was the famous comedian who replaced him?

Answer: Billy Connolly

Billy Connolly is best known for comedy, but he is also a talented musician and dramatic actor. He appeared in "Boondock Saints."
5. On which highly popular Friday night show was Cory Matthews unfortunate enough to have his next door neighbour as a teacher/principal, who followed him throughout his school career?

Answer: Boy Meets World

As unbelievable as it sounds, it was however highly popular with the tween-age set and starred Ben Savage as Cory and William Daniels as Mr. Feeny.
6. Everyone loved the "Peanuts" characters developed by the late Charles Schulz, and we loved them even more when they arrived on TV in holiday specials. Adults were never seen, but only heard as the sound of an obnoxious horn. What was the name of Charlie Brown's teacher we heard in this fashion?

Answer: Mrs. Donovan

Poor Charlie Brown, he didn't win very often but he always had a hopeful heart. A lesson for us all!
7. In sharp contrast to Charlie Brown we come to Bart (or was that Brat) Simpson and his long suffering teacher. What is the name of the teacher that Bart regularly puts through the wringer?

Answer: Mrs. Krabappel

Bart once set her up with a false romance sending her love letters and a photo of the hockey great Gordy Howe!
8. Now we go to farthest reaches of the universe and "Deep Space Nine" where we find a woman who is first a botanist but finds herself teaching the children of the station because there is no fit teacher?

Answer: Keiko O'Brien

That was a surprise romance to many followers of "Star Trek TNG"- the beautiful scientist and the rough around the edges transporter room controller. After their wedding in "Ten Forward" the O'Briens eventually made their home on the space station "Deep Space Nine."
9. Along with many other careers this character was best known as a teacher on the longest running soap opera in British TV History. He has been played by William Roache continuously since 1960. What is this character's name?

Answer: Ken Barlow

William Roache's character has not only had multiple careers, he has had multiple marriages!
10. Another throwback to space TV; Jeri Ryan moved from playing Seven of Nine on "Star Trek: Voyageur" to teaching on Earth on the popular "Boston Public" series set in a high school. What teacher did this leggy beauty play?

Answer: Ronnie Cook

During her tenure on the show she moved up the ranks and became an assistant vice principal and later a guidance counselor!
