Arthur Curtis (Howard Duff) thinks he's in his office only to discover a dead phone line and his workplace is actually a soundstage. The people around him insist he is not Curtis, but a has-been actor, Jerry Raigan, now starring in a movie. Determined to prove otherwise, Arthur tries to find his home and family, but on arriving at the site of what should be his house, finds neither.

He hurries back to the movie set to find it being dismantled - the production has been cancelled. He prays not to be left in an unfamiliar world. Suddenly he finds himself back in his accustomed workplace with solid walls and his agent, back in the real world, cannot locate him.

The father (David White) reads an ad about custom robots and decides that one would make a good au pair for his children. He goes to the factory and lets the kids select the features they want in their nanny. However, eldest daughter Anne (Veronica Cartwright), is reluctant to participate. Anne never accepts "Grandma" (Josephine Hutchinson) and fights her at every step. One day, Anne runs away from Grandma; right into the path of an oncoming truck. Grandma saves Anne, after which Anne realizes the devotion of the mechanical "person" and finally accepts her. David White went on to play Darren Stephen's boss, Larry Tate, in the long-running sit-com "Bewitched". Angela Cartwright was a noted child actor and had many roles in TV and movies as both a child and adult.

Poor Gart Williams (James Daly) is trapped in a loveless marriage and in a detested job with a demanding boss. One day going home from work on his commuter train, he falls asleep and dreams of an idyllic town named Willoughby where "a man can slow down to a walk and live his life full-measure." This dream occurs several times.

However, his job is not going well - work pressures make him blow up right in front of his boss. When his wife hears about it, she leaves him. Gart decides the next time the train stops at Willoughby, he's going to get off.

He does, but back in reality, he did get off the train - by jumping to his death. The ambulance that comes to take his body is from the Willoughby Funeral Home.
4. A good-natured street huckster wants to make one big pitch in his life.

Answer: One for the Angels

While making his rounds, street hawker Lou Bookman (Ed Wynn) meets Mr. Death (Murray Hamilton) who reveals that it's Lou's "time". Lou is reluctant to go because in his life, he hadn't yet made that one big pitch - "one for the angels". Death relents and agrees to let Lou stay alive until he makes his pitch, but Lou has no intention of ever doing it, thereby staying alive indefinitely.

However, Death must take someone, so he allows a neighborhood child, Maggie, to be hit by a truck. Lou then realizes than how selfish he was and distracts Death from taking Maggie by making a sales pitch. Death becomes engrossed by Lou's display and forgets to take Maggie. Lou has made his "big pitch"; satisfied, he agrees to go.
5. Nuclear war survivors depend on advice from a mysterious entity.

Answer: The Old Man in the Cave

The leader of the bedraggled group is Mr. Goldsmith (John Anderson) who is the go-between from the "Old Man", who is located in a cave outside of town, to the survivors. The Old Man tells them if food is safe to eat, and they have survived for ten years by obeying the instructions. One day a group of military men arrive led by the domineering Major French (James Coburn) who berates them for taking advice from an unseen and unknown person.

The latest cache of food and drink that is found was deemed unsuitable for consumption by the Old Man, but French convinces everyone but Goldsmith that the food is safe.

The starving people rebel against Goldsmith and break into the cave only to discover that the Old Man is a computer. They destroy it and eat the food. Come to find out, the food was poisoned by radioactivity, and all but Goldsmith succumb.
6. Three astronauts land on an asteroid to find it populated by inanimate people.

Answer: Elegy

There are people there, but no one moves, even in the act of everyday activities. It is like a town populated with mannequins. However, the astronauts do meet someone who moves named Wickwire (Cecil Kellaway). He explains that the asteroid is an exclusive cemetery and he is the caretaker. People's bodies are brought there to be posed in what they deemed was their greatest wish (e.g. success at gambling, being elected to political office, winning a beauty contest, etc). Wickwire serves the men drinks and asks them what their greatest wish is.

They respond that they'd like to be back in their ship heading for Earth. Too late they realize they were poisoned by Wickwire who is actually a robot. He embalms the men and places their bodies back in the rocket.
7. An astronaut left alone on Mars discovers something disturbing about Martians.

Answer: People are Alike All Over

Two astronauts are sent to Mars. The one named Marcusson is certain they will find friendly beings there since "people are alike all over". Sam Conrad (Roddy McDowall), however, does not share those optimistic hopes and has strong misgivings about extraterrestrial life.

When their ship crashes on Mars, Marcusson is fatally injured. Left alone, Conrad hears tapping on the ship's hull and is terrified. Eventually forced to leave the ship, he is relieved to be greeted by seemingly amicable and Earth-like beings who offer hospitality and bury Marcusson.

The next day they show Conrad a house they built for him. Everything in it is just like a typical American home, the plans of which the Martins were able to garner from reading his mind. He is left alone to enjoy it.

However, as he is explores his residence, he finds that the appliances are sham and the doors are locked. Suddenly a curtain parts to show an audience looking at him through a barred window. The sign outside indicates that he is an Earth human in his natural habitat. Come to find out, he is an exhibition in an Martian zoo! He then screams, "Marcusson, you were right. People ARE alike all over!"

Answer: Living Doll

Erich Streator (Telly Savalas) is not pleased when his wife, Annabelle, buys his step-daughter, Christy, an expensive talking doll. When it talks for Christy, it says how much it loves her. When Erich pulls the string, the doll says it doesn't like him. Erich thinks the girls are pulling a trick on him as the doll continues to escalate its uncomplimentary phrases to Erich.

He makes several attempts to get rid of the doll, but it always manages to re-appear, lastly with death threats aimed at him. Annabelle is alarmed at Erich's increasingly odd behavior and apparent obsession with the doll.

She threatens to leave, so he grudgingly returns the doll to Christy. Late at night, Erich hears a noise and gets up to investigate, but trips over the doll and falls down the stairs to his death.

When Annabelle runs out and picks up the doll, it says to her, "My name is Talky Tina, and you'd better be good to me."

Alex (Alex Nichol) brings his bride, Virginia (Phyllis Thaxter) to the home of his boyhood to make arrangements for it to be sold. However, once there, he is overcome with nostalgia. Oddly, a broken radio keeps playing Alex's mother's favorite song over and over, old furniture and a pan of fudge materialize. Alex now has second thoughts about selling the house. Virginia soon suspects that Alex's mother's spirit is working to keep him there.

She pleads to the mother's spirit to let Alex go. The mother appears and claims it's not her doing, but Alex's strong desire to return to the past. Alex changes into a ten year old boy and orders Virginia out.

Answer: Night of the Meek

Inebriate derelict Henry Corwin (Art Carney) is hired to play a department store Santa, but when he shows up drunk, he is fired by the store manager. Still dressed as Santa, Henry wanders the street and finds an old sack and discovers it will produce whatever is asked of it. Happily, he decides to give gifts to all his friends at the mission, but the local police officer, Flaherty, assumes Henry stole the items from the department store. Flaherty asks the manager to come to the police station to identify the merchandise, but all they find in the bag is trash and and an alley cat.

Henry asks the manager to test the bag, so he asks for a bottle of brandy which appears. Unable to prove the gifts were stolen, the police have to release Henry. He spends the rest of the night giving away gifts to the neighborhood kids.

At midnight the sack is empty. Henry's only regret is that he couldn't do the same thing every Christmas. Suddenly he encounters a large sleigh, reindeer and an elf - all waiting to take him to the North Pole.

He gets his wish.
