Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Lorne Greene

Answer: Edward James Olmos

In both series, Adama was the Commander of the Battlestar Galactica. Both versions were also highly decorated military officers who were distrustful of the Cylons seeking peace. He led the remnants of the human population of the twelve colonies fleeing a Cylon attack on their homeworlds. In the 1978 series his only name was Adama. In the 2003 reboot, his name was William Adama and his code name was "Husker".

Lorne Greene (1915-1987) may be even more well known for portraying Ben Cartwright on the long-running Western "Bonanza" (1959-1973) than Commander Adama. Edward James Olmos (born 1947) played a leading role in the television series "Miami Vice" (1984-1990) and starred in the 1988 film "Stand and Deliver".
2. Richard Hatch

Answer: Jamie Bamber

On the original series, the character was Captain Apollo. On the rebooted series, the character was Captain Lee Adama, who had the call-sign Apollo. Both characters were the elder son of Commander Adama. In the course of the 1978, Apollo married the former news reporter Serena and adopted her son after her untimely death. Lee married Bridge Officer Anastasia Dualla. The 1978 version emphasized his skills as a pilot. The 2004 version was a skilled pilot but also showed some interest in being a lawyer, a occupation his grandfather had previously held.

Richard Hatch (1945-2017) also appeared on the television series "The Streets of San Francisco" and a recurring role as political agitator Tom Zarek in the 2004 "Battlestar: Galactica" series. Jamie Bamber (born 1973) also appeared on the television series "Law & Order: UK" and "Hornblower".
3. Dirk Benedict

Answer: Katee Sackhoff

This part represents one example of changes of characters that were seen by some as controversial. In 1978, the character (Lieutenant Starbuck) was played by a man and in 2004 (Lieutenant Kara Thrace, call-sign "Starbuck"), by a woman. Both versions of the character were skilled pilots who were also drinkers, smokers, and gamblers. Lieutenant Starbuck had a on-again, off-again relationship for socialator Cassiopeia. Lieutenant Thrace had several relationships, including an adulterous one with Lee Adama.

Dirk Benedict (born 1945) is also well known for playing the part of Templeton "The Face Man" Peck on "The A-Team" (1983-1987). Katee Sackhoff (born 1980) has also starred in the television series "The Education of Max Bickford" (2001-2002) and "Longmire" (2012-2017).
4. Herbert Jefferson

Answer: Grace Park

This part also features some interesting casting choices. The original series featured an African-American male actor in the role while the reboot featured an Asian-American female actor. Lieutenant Boomer (1978) was a friend of Apollo and Starbuck and a fellow pilot. Lieutenant Sharon "Boomer" Valerii (2004) was a pilot but also a cylon disguised as a human. She was the Number Eight version. A second version of Number Eight (also played by Grace Park) would later go by the call-sign "Athena".

Herbert Jefferson (born 1976) also starred in the 1976 television mini-series "Rich Nan, Poor Man". Grace Park (born 1974) also starred in the television series "Hawaii Five-O".
5. Terry Carter

Answer: Michael Hogan

In both series, Tigh was the executive officer of Battlestar: Galactica. While the original Colonel Tigh was a stern disciplinarian, he generally is viewed more positively than his equivalent in the reboot. In the reboot series, the being who believed he was Colonel Saul Tigh was actually one of the final five humanoid Cylons. His memories were wiped to believe he was a former pilot. His wife, Ellen Tigh, was also one of the "final five". The casting of this part is also interesting since in the original series the character was portrayed by an African-American actor and in the reboot by a Caucasian actor.

Terry Carter (born 1927) is an actor has also appeared in the television series "The Phil Silvers Show" and "McCloud". Michael Hogan (born 1949) is an actor who has also appeared in the television series "Cold Squad" and "Teen Wolf".
6. John Colicos

Answer: James Callis

Count Baltar was the main human antagonist of the original series who betrayed the human race to the Cylons in return for being made the leader of those who survive. By comparison in the reboot series, Dr. Gaius Baltar was a scientist who unintentionally provided information that assisted the Cylons in their attack on the Colonies. Both Baltars were important political figures with the Count being one of the Council of 12 before his betrayal and the Doctor serving a term as the President.

John Colicos (1928-2000) was an actor who also appeared as the Klingon Kor in several television episodes set in the Star Trek Universe. James Callis (born 1971) has also appeared in the motion picture "Bridget Jones's Diary" and the television series "Eureka".
7. Rick Springfield

Answer: Clarke Hudson

In the original series, Lieutenant Zak, the younger brother of Apollo, appeared as a pilot who was killed by the Cylons shortly before the main attack on the Colonies. In the reboot Zak Adama was still a pilot who was killed by the Cylons. The tension was heightened when it was suggested that Kara Thrace, who was both his flight instructor and lover, may have qualified him for solo flights before he was ready.

Rick Springfield (born 1949) as a singer recorded the hit song "Jessie's Girl" and as an actor starred on the soap opera "General Hospital". Clarke Hudson portrayed Zak Adam in the 2003 miniseries and Tobias Mehler portrayed the character in flashbacks during the 2004-2009 series.
8. Lloyd Bridges

Answer: Michelle Forbes

In the original series, Commander Cain appeared in the two-part episode "The Living Legend". Under his command the Battlestar: Pegasus was also able to survive the Cylon attack that started the series. In the reboot series, Admiral Helena Cain was still commander of the Pegasus, but was actually Adama's superior officer. This part was also cast with a male actor in the original series and a female actor in the reboot series

Lloyd Bridges (1913-1988) also starred in the motion pictures "Little Big Horn" and "Trapped". Michelle Forbes (born 1965) also appeared in the television series "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Homicide: Life on the Streets".
9. Noah Hathaway

Answer: Connor Widdows

In the original series, Boxey was the son of Serena and later became the adopted son of Apollo. He and his "robot pet" Muffit appeared in several episodes. Alex "Boxey" Boxman appeared in the 2003 miniseries and a few early episodes of the reboot series. He was rescued by Boomer and Starbuck in his first appearance.

Noah Hathaway (born 1971) also appeared in the 1984 film "The NeverEnding Story". Actor Kent McCord portrayed as grown-up Boxey as Lieutenant Troy in the series "Galactica 1980". Connor Widdows (born 1992) also appeared in the films "X2" and "Agent Cody Banks".
10. Jane Seymour

Answer: None

The character of Serena was a television news reporter who met and married Captain Apollo not long after the Cylon attack. When she died not long after, her son Boxey was adopted by Apollo. Though Boxey's mother appeared very briefly in the 2003 miniseries, no direct equivalent to the character existed in the reboot. Other characters from the original series that did not appear in the reboot include Cassiopea, Lt. Sheba, and Count Iblis. Characters that were created for the reboot include Dr. Cottle, Lt. Gaetano, and the Number Six cylon.

Jane Seymour (born 1951) also appeared in the movie "Live and Let Die" (1973) and the television series "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman".
