Robert in his reign relied heavily upon his two Hands of the King, Jon Arryn and Ned Stark because he was content to drink away his time as king. He attained the crown but then shirked all responsibility to the kingdom that it came with. During Season I, it becomes apparent that because Robert is so unfaithful to his wife, he has fathered countless illegitimate children and at the feast in Winterfell, the wives of the king and Ned Stark view his lechery with disapproval.
