Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What are the names of the three Lannister siblings?

Answer: Cersei, Jaime and Tyrion

These three are the children of Tywin Lannister, who is renowned in Westeros for having a lot of money and a gigantic army. He is one of the most powerful men in the Seven Kingdoms, which is why the King, Robert Baratheon married his daughter, Cersei. Cersei and Jaime were twins and are older than Tyrion. Tyrion's mother, Joanna, died giving birth to him, much to his father's dismay, so in his eyes the child was doubly cursed.
2. What relationship other than sibling do Cersei Lannister's children have to each other?

Answer: cousins

On account of Jaime Lannister being their father, as well as their maternal uncle, Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen Baratheon are brothers and sisters as well as cousins. They all believe that Robert Baratheon, their mother's husband, is actually their father.
3. Which of these men is a bannerman of House Lannister?

Answer: Gregor Clegane

Gregor Clegane, otherwise known as "The Mountain that Rides", swore allegiance to the Lannister family, and is thus under their protection and 'jurisdiction'. We discover this when Ned Stark orders Tywin Lannister to come to King's Landing so that he could answer for the crimes that Gregor Clegane committed. Jon Umber and Rickard Karstark are bannermen of the Starks and Walder Frey is a bannerman of House Tully.
4. Stark is to Winterfell, Tully is to Riverrun, Arryn is to The Vale. Lannister is to ________.

Answer: Casterly Rock

The Lannisters' seat is at Casterly Rock, which in Season 1, is not shown in the TV show, but is mentioned when Cersei is talking to Jaime about her many worries in the first episode of the season. Tyrion often talks of all the gold at Casterly Rock, especially as the Lannisters love to buy the allegiance of people.

They are a famously wealthy family, and are thus one of the most influential in Westeros.
5. What is the Lannister family's sigil?

Answer: Lion

The Lion is the symbol of the family, which is seen on all their banners. It is also the reason why, when the Lannisters and the Starks begin to conflict with each other in episode 5 of season 1, the episode is called "The Wolf and the Lion". The fish is the sigil of the Tully family, the Kraken is the sigil of the Greyjoy family and the Dragon that of the nearly extinct Targaryen house.
6. On his way to The Vale with Catelyn Tully and her entourage to face Lysa Tully and be convicted for the murder of Jon Arryn and attempted murder of Brandon Stark, Tyrion makes a 'friend' of one of Catelyn's mercenaries. He later defends Tyrion when he demands a Trial by Combat and upon winning, becomes Tyrion's right hand man. What is his name?

Answer: Bronn

Bronn fought Sir Vardys of The Vale, who was fighting on the side of the Tully sisters against Bronn, who stood up for Tyrion, when the Tully's would not summon his brother, Jaime. He later helps Tyrion find Shae, his new lady friend. When Tyrion's father, sent them into war as part of the vanguard, Bronn did not hesitate to accompany Tyrion to the fight.
7. Which member of the Stark household does Tyrion take an unusual interest in and befriend?

Answer: Jon Snow

When the King's party comes to Winterfell so that he can offer the position of King's Hand to Ned, Tyrion meets Ned's illegitimate son, Jon Snow, who was banned from the feast by Catelyn. They reach their friendship on the understanding that neither is accepted by society, in Tyrion's words "all dwarves are bastards in their father's eyes".

They then both get to know each other better when they both travel to The Wall. Tyrion does take an interest in Brandon when he is crippled for the same reasons as he takes an interest in Jon, he does not particularly approve of Robb's manner and he shares his love of whores with Theon, seen when Theon recommends Ros, a prostitute whom he goes to see on occasion.
8. The motto of House Lannister is "Hear me ____".

Answer: roar

This motto connects with their sigil of the lion. Their motto and sigil presents the family as being powerful and dangerous, but having pride and being able to exhibit that wealth and power freely. The lion is also a desert, warm-country creature, which acts in opposition to the direwolf, the sigil of the Stark family, which is the lion's equivalent but is a stealthy and winter beast which hunts only that which threatens it.

A metaphor for both the houses.
9. Tyrion Lannister was accused by Catelyn Tully of owning a dagger, which was used in the attempted murder of her son, Brandon. Who incriminated Tyrion in this crime?

Answer: Petyr Baelish

After Brandon saw an incestuous assignation between Jaime and Cersei Lannister,
Jaime threw him from the tower and so he was paralysed and in a coma for a long time. Baelish is a long-time, childhood friend of Lady Catelyn and he lets her stay in one of the brothels he owns when she comes secretly to King's Landing. He tells her that he owned the dagger but he lost it to Tyrion in a wager, which induces her to apprehend Tyrion which in turn begins the war that results in her husband's execution.
10. Complete this repeated Tyrion quote: "Lannisters always pay their ______".

Answer: debts

Tyrion regularly needs to bribe people for reasons that range from not to kill him to letting him out of jail. For this reason, many characters hear him say this, to the extent that Bran Stark mistakes this saying for the actual motto of the Lannister family, which is "Hear me Roar". Maester Luwin corrects him on this, but he just ignores him, not particularly interested in chanting the mottos of the ancient houses of Westeros.
