Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. It was Jon Arryn's sudden death that brought Ned Stark to King's Landing, where he sought the truth behind Lord Arryn's demise. Who actually killed Robert's first "Hand of the King?"

Answer: Lysa Arryn

Lysa Arryn's note, sent to her sister Catelyn Stark, accusing the Lannisters of her husband's murder, set into motion the chaos and bloodshed that followed. Petyr Baelish, however, had convinced Lysa to poison her own husband.
2. What nasty creature felled a drunken King Robert?

Answer: Boar

Drugged and drunk thanks to his scheming wife Cersei, King Robert was gored by a boar on a hunting trip. On his deathbed, Robert named Ned Stark "Protector of the Realm."
3. On the orders of King Joffrey, Ilyn Payne beheads Ned Stark with which ancient sword?

Answer: Ice

Ned Stark was executed with Ice, his own family's Valyrian steel broadsword. It was later reforged into Oathkeeper (given by Jaime Lannister to Brienne of Tarth) and Widow's Wail (given to King Joffrey Baratheon as a wedding gift).
4. Sansa Stark and Tyrion Lannister were suspected of poisoning King Joffrey. Who, however, really did the little monster in?

Answer: Olenna Tyrell

The "Queen of Thorns" had no intention of seeing her granddaughter wed to King Robert's illegitimate and sadistic heir.
5. Each night before sleep Arya Stark speaks the names of those she wishes dead. Who wasn't on little Arya's original "hit list?"

Answer: Walder Frey

Arya's made lots of enemies on her terrible journeys, but the original list included only those who wronged her and her family prior to her escape from King's Landing. Lord Frey would eventually land of Arya's list, but not until after the events of the "Red Wedding."
6. The "Red Wedding" claimed the lives of many a Stark. Which member of that northern clan DIDN'T die as a guest of Walder Frey?

Answer: Benjen Stark

Why would anyone ever attend a wedding in Westeros? Benjen, Ned's brother and First Ranger, was lost and assumed dead north of the Wall when the slaughter at the Twins took place.
7. Which brother of the Night's Watch brought an end to Ygritte and (temporarily) Jon Snow?

Answer: Olly

Olly watched his family and village slaughtered by Wildling reavers, and thus killing Ygritte (Jon Snow's Wildling lover) with an arrow was understandable. Stabbing his Lord Commander, however, is what put the boy's head in a noose.
8. If the Night's Watch is a brotherhood, Jon Snow is guilty of serial fratricide. Who amongst these black brothers was not slain by "Lord Snow?"

Answer: Jeor Mormont

Jon Snow begrudgingly killed Halfhand (at Halfhand's insistence) to infiltrate the Wildlings. Slynt, former commander of King's Landing's gold cloaks, was executed from refusing to follow Lord Commander Snow's orders. Jon Snow became Lord Commander following the death of Mormont, who was treasonously slain by Karl Tanner.
9. Oberyn Martell died championing Tyrion Lannister in a "trial by combat." By what nickname was his killer known?

Answer: The Mountain

Gregor "The Mountain That Rides" Clegane crushed the head of the Dornish prince, but not before being infected with a poison-dipped spear.
10. The fiery sacrifice of Shireen Baratheon may have been the cruelest death on a show famous for such things. Who amongst the following was NOT complicit in the princess' haunting end?

Answer: Davos Seaworth

Scarred by greyscale and hidden away by her parents, Shireen's only true friend was the Onion Knight, Ser Davos, who was unaware that she'd been sacrificed to ensure her father's victory.
