William Hanna and Joseph Barbera gave birth to H-B Enterprises in 1944 when these two animation directors at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer joined forces to produce freelance TV commercials. When Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer closed their animation studio, Hanna and Barbera went into animation full time.

Their first Cartoon show was 'Ruff and Reddy' in 1957. They changed the name of their company to Hanna-Barbera Productions in 1960. William Hanna died in 2001 and Joseph Barbera died in 2006, but their production company lives on. Hanna-Barbera Productions is credited with 330 shows and features over the 50 years they've been in business.

These episodes were aired on Saturday mornings as reruns from 1967 through 1972. The original episodes were deemed too violent, were edited and again shown as reruns after 1972. It was revived in 1986 producing 12 new episodes.

Magilla was seldom purchased, and usually only for short periods by ne'er-do-wells who wanted a gorilla to facilitate a crime.

They would always return him for a refund. The only character who honestly wanted to buy Magilla was a little girl named Ogee, voiced by Jean Vander Pyl. Mr. Peebles was voiced by Howard Morris. Each week's episode ended with the phrase, "We'll try again next week."
