Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Episode 31: "Four Months Ago" Maya's power activates for the first time at what event?

Answer: wedding reception

This episode explains the events that occurred during the four months between seasons 1 and 2. In this scene, Maya's brother Alejandro has just gotten married, although she isn't too fond of his new bride. To make matters worse, Maya discovers her cheating on Alejandro at the wedding reception. Maya is furious and her power activates for the first time, killing everyone at the reception... except herself and her brother.
2. Episode 32: "Cautionary Tales" Hiro travels back in time to save his father from being murdered, but his father does not wish to be saved. Hiro eventually accepts this, but freezes time to get a look at his father's killer. Who does it turn out to be?

Answer: Takezo Kensei

Takezo Kensei was the name he used back in 1671. In modern time, he is known as Adam Monroe. It is revealed that he used his healing power so many times that new cells were produced as quickly as the old ones died, rendering him effectively ageless.
3. Episode 33: "Truth & Consequences" How does Sylar kill Alejandro in this episode?

Answer: with a knife

For many episodes (but this one especially), Alejandro tries to convince Maya that Sylar is a bad man. Alejandro eventually sees a newspaper article related to Sylar killing his mother. However, Maya chooses to continue on with Sylar to New York City.
4. Episode 34: "Powerless" In the season two finale, who is shot at episode's end?

Answer: Nathan

Nathan Petrelli is shot at a press conference when he is about to reveal to the world that he can fly. It is later revealed in "The Butterfly Effect" that the one who shot him was a future version of his brother Peter.
5. Episode 35: "The Second Coming" This episode finally reveals how Sylar acquires the powers of others. As previously suspected, he eats the brains of his victims.

Answer: False

Upon attacking Claire to acquire her ability, Claire asks if he is going to eat her brain, to which Sylar replies "Claire. That's disgusting."

In truth, it seems he examines the brain and finds the neural pathway that is responsible for their ability. Since Sylar's innate ability is Intuitive Aptitude (the ability to understand complex systems), finding the root of their abilities is relatively easy for him.
6. Episode 36: "The Butterfly Effect" It is revealed that future Peter has trapped present-time Peter in the body of a Level 5 prisoner. What is the prisoner's name, and what is his ability?

Answer: Jesse Murphy, sound manipulation

Jesse Murphy was played by Francis Capra, who is well known from the hit UPN / CW series "Veronica Mars".

Jesse is killed in the next episode, "One of Us, One of Them".
7. Episode 37: "One of Us, One of Them" What method of torture does Meredith use on Claire in order to teach her a lesson about fighting and revenge?

Answer: suffocation

Claire wants to prove that because she cannot be physically hurt, she is no match for any foe. Meredith proves her wrong by enclosing her in a small space and heating up the container until there is insufficient oxygen, which causes a great deal of discomfort to Claire.
8. Episode 38: "I Am Become Death" When Tracy Strauss attempts suicide, who saves her life?

Answer: Nathan Petrelli

Tracy attempts to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge. However, Nathan flies in and saves her at the last second. Later, she shows Nathan her ability to freeze things.
9. Episode 39: "Angels and Monsters" The end of this episode reveals the true head of the Pinehearst Company, who is actually Peter and Nathan's father. What is his first name?

Answer: Arthur

Arthur Petrelli is played by Robert Forster, and is an integral part of Volume 3 of "Heroes". He has the power to take the abilities of others through physical contact. In his reunion with his son Peter, Arthur takes all of his abilities.
10. Episode 40: "Dying of the Light" During a deadly game of Russian Roulette orchestrated by "puppet master" Eric Doyle, who is forced to shoot Claire?

Answer: Sandra

Eric Doyle is played by David H. Lawrence XVII. He has the ability to control a person's physical actions, as if they were a puppet under his control. Since Doyle was a puppet master with his own marionette theater, his ability is very much in tune with his personality.

Sandra shoots Claire repeatedly in this twisted game of Russian Roulette, but Claire regenerates quickly and knocks Doyle out.
11. Episode 41: "Eris Quod Sum" In this episode, Knox arrives at Matt's apartment and kills Matt and Daphne. However, they are not actually dead. Why is this?

Answer: Matt used his ability to manipulate Knox's mind.

After Knox leaves, the scene dissolves and the real Matt and Daphne appear, revealing that he had used his advanced telepathy to manipulate Knox's mind and make him think what was happening was real.
12. Episode 42: "Villains" Which character is having visions of the past, that make up the bulk of this episode?

Answer: Hiro

Hiro's drug-induced vision quest sends him back to several key points in the series past, and many sequences actually overlap with the proper continuity.

In one scene, Thompson asks Meredith why she hates the company, and she explains that her daughter died as she tried to escape them. Knowing that Claire is in fact still alive, he lets her go. At this moment, Claire is seen in the background rushing into the train wreck to save a man, revealing it to be the same train wreck from the pilot episode, "Genesis".
13. Episode 43: "It's Coming" Sylar obtains the ability to manipulate electricity in this episode by killing Elle Bishop.

Answer: False

Sylar is actually able to acquire this ability through a form of empathic mimicry, similar to Peter. The level of Sylar's empathy in this episode allowed him to overcome his thirst for power and absorb her ability without resorting to murder. Elle is left unharmed after he acquires this ability, and the two of them actually bond from the experience.
14. Episode 44: "The Eclipse, Part 1" What effect does the eclipse have on those with superhuman abilities?

Answer: It causes them to lose their ability.

The eclipse negates all abilities, whether physical abilities like Nathan's flying (he falls out of the sky during the eclipse) or mental abilities like Sylar's telekinesis (which simply does not work).
15. Episode 45: "The Eclipse, Part 2" In this episode, one character battles their brother who is a warlord with impenetrable skin. Whose brother is this?

Answer: The Haitian's

The Haitian's brother goes by the alias "Baron Samedi", which is a figure in the Haitian Vodou religion.

Samedi has impenetrable skin, which grants him a greater resistance to physical injury than an average human. It is different from Claire's ability, which still allows her skin to be penetrated, but when the foreign object is removed, her skin regenerates back to its original form.

Well, that's it! Thanks for playing! Hope you enjoyed it!
