Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sue has campaigned to have an article written about herself in what magazine?

Answer: Splits Magazine

Sue sits Kurt and Mercedes down in her office and talks to them seriously. While Mercedes is an amazing singer, she needs to change her image to stay on the team. Sue informs her that she will need to lose ten pounds before the "Splits Magazine" interview or else she'll be cut from Cheerios. Sue also insults Kurt during this talk. Will also has trouble with Sue. Since she has padlocked the auditorium shut to have her Cheerios practice for the interview, the kids in Glee can't perform. To make things worse, Sue's blackmailing Principal Figgins, so he's no help. Will is forced to tell the kids the bad news and go on a hunt for a place to practice off-site for the week.
2. What is not an ingredient in Sue Sylvester's 'Master Cleanse'?

Answer: Egg whites

In the cafeteria, Kurt tries to convince Mercedes to eat less to slim down for the Cheerios. Mercedes is hesitant, especially after Kurt says his food intake for the day consisted of celery for lunch and Splenda for breakfast. When Mercedes asks Santana and Brittany, Santana reveals the Sue Sylvester Master Cleanse consisting of water, maple syrup, glucose, lemon, cayenne pepper, and a dash of ipecac, a vomiting agent. Brittany also puts sand in hers. Quinn watches on from afar as the girls convince Mercedes to change her diet. Finn, meanwhile, is dealing with his mother who is selling off some of the furniture in their house. Finn is outraged that his mother can just toss the stuff away and stops her before she can sell his dad's old recliner.

When Finn asks what she's thinking, she claims that she's been seeing someone: Kurt's dad, Burt Hummel.
3. Will runs into April Rhodes at which of these locations?

Answer: A rollerskating rink

Will, on the search for a place for New Directions to practice for the week, comes across a rollerskating rink and discovers that April is running the place. When he steps out to the center of the rink to speak to her, she has her band fire up a duet: Bruce Springsteen's "Fire".

When the two of them stop to talk, she explains that she was going to head to Branson, Missouri to become a star, but she stayed and didn't get sober. One day, a strip mall tycoon bought her a drink and she's been his mistress ever since.

He also happened to own the roller rink. April offers the rink for their practice shortly before discovering that Will is getting a divorce and renting out his apartment. She decides to make a stop the next day. In her weigh-in, Mercedes discovers that she has actually gained two pounds. Sue is angry and says she only has four days to lose the weight.
4. Which member of the Glee Club sings "A House is Not a Home" in the choir room?

Answer: Kurt

Finn asks Kurt about their parents dating and Kurt lies saying that they simply met on parent-teacher night at school. As it turns out, he brought them together purposely and they hit it off. When the kids find out about their rollerskating rink plans for the week, they all worry about how it might go. Kurt decides to step up and sing a song to ease the club which he feels has lost its direction (ironically).

He decides to sing "A House is Not a Home" by Dionne Warwick to do this. Finn sings the same song at home as he looks on at his dad's chair and Will is visibly saddened by the song, possibly because of his own problems at home.

When the song ends, Kurt has to turn away to stop the others from watching him cry.
5. When April spends the night at Will's apartment she falls asleep on the couch after drinking a bottle of wine.

Answer: False

April appears on Will's doorstep the next day with her luggage in tow and Will admits that he's not really comfortable with her spending the night. She states that she would really just appreciate being in the same house as someone if only for the one evening and he allows her to stay on the couch.

She pops a CD into the stereo as she unpacks her belongings and as Will gets ready for bed she sings the Barbra Streisand medley of "One Less Bell to Answer" and "A House is Not a Home". The two sing about their misery before April slides into bed next to Will. Both fall asleep soundly holding each others hands.
6. Attempting to eat less for her Cheerios diet, what does Mercedes inevitably end up doing?

Answer: Hallucinating

Kurt, Finn, and their parents all go out for dinner and Kurt gives a toast to the coming-together of both their families while Finn mopes. To Kurt's surprise, Finn and his father both hit it off quite nicely as both share a common interest in sports. Kurt tries to sway the conversation but can't and he finds himself frustrated enough to rip the paint swatches off his wall at home (as he had been preparing to redecorate in hopes that Finn would be moving in). Kurt and Burt talk break the surface on the issue, but leave it unresolved due to Kurt's jealousy. At school, Mercedes eats her small lunch (a leaf of lettuce) while sitting with Artie and Tina.

Her mood rises and soon she sees them both as food. She tries to escape her hallucinations but faints in the cafeteria. Quinn speaks to her in the nurse's office and states that she's starving herself.

She claims that Mercedes had always been at home in her body and she has no need to change because of Sue Sylvester's ideas.
7. When Finn tries to get his mother to break up with Burt, what does he claim he's going to do?

Answer: Flush his father's ashes into the toilet

The kids head to the rollerskating rink but have trouble actually practicing while the place is open for business. Will decides to speak with April about their night at his place and he states that they shouldn't make a habit of it. He also says that she could really hit it big. Rather than drinking every night and hiding away in Lima, Ohio, she could be a star and follow her dreams.

She agrees and decides to split up with her man. She needs to find her home. Finn and Kurt talk at school about breaking up their parents and both agree that something must be done.

When Finn goes home, he tells his mother that he's going to flush his father's ashes down the toilet and she stops him. She then decides to sit the ashes on the recliner and watch TV to give commentary on a basketball game.

When Finn asks why she's acting crazy, she states that he's trying too hard to live in the past and they need to move on. She likes Burt and wants things to work because she feels good about herself and Finn's being selfish for not letting her move on after sixteen years.

She states that they don't need anymore ghosts...they need a home.
8. During the pep rally, what song does Mercedes sing in front of the school?

Answer: Beautiful

The day comes for Sue's interview for "Splits Magazine" and the kids father in the gym for a presentation. Sue takes her seat next to her interviewer who claims to have been shortlisted for the Pulitzer Prize the previous year- he's actually there to investigate rather than write a fluff piece for a magazine.

When the Cheerios come out, they form in the center of the gym and Mercedes walks out to the microphone to start her piece. She begins by asking the students if they've felt fat, or ugly, or that they don't have enough friends, or if they feel unpopular, and she comments that it's not right to bring yourself down like she has been.

She decides to perform Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" and both the Cheerios and New Directions join in to sing with her by the end. Kurt apologizes to Mercedes by the end saying he was wrong about them needing to fit in for Cheerios.

The reporter states that his article will be on Sue's desk by the following day.
9. What is the name of the reporter who originally sought to expose Sue Sylvester as a coward in this episode?

Answer: Tracey

The reporter, Tracey, states to Sue (in her office) that the moment he met her he disliked her and thought she was insulting, bossy, and a bit racist. While he came to write an article exposing her for what she truly is, he was shocked to find that she featured Cheerios of every shape, size, and colour performing songs and routines about empowerment.

He describes her as visionary in the field. Sue works with this and claims that it was all her idea. She lies saying that all that counts is on the inside. Finn is surprised to find Burt in his house and the two decide to have an important talk. Burt talks first since he doesn't have much to say.

He knows he can never fill Finn's father's shoes but he loves his mom. While Finn's dad was a hero in more ways than one, he wants to be his mom's hero while he can because the two of them do feel for each other. To show his acceptance, Finn invites him to watch a game and he lets him sit in his father's chair. Kurt watches on from outside.
10. At the end of the week, what happens to the McKinley High School auditorium?

Answer: It's purchased for the Glee Club

April speaks with Will at the school and states that she did what Will suggested; she went to her man and said that if he wants to keep her around, he needs to divorce his wife and choose her. He died of a stroke moments later. Will is shocked but April states that it doesn't matter- she's rich now.

She was paid off by the man's wife to keep everything quiet and she received two million dollars for it. Her plan: to head to Broadway and direct an all-white version of "The Wiz" on stage and to go sober (she hasn't had a drink in forty-five minutes).

She also reveals that she purchased the auditorium and named it the April Rhodes Civic Pavilion. Now it's out of Sue's control. April heads to the stage to perform and thank Will with a song from "The Wiz" appropriately titled "Home".

The kids from New Directions back her up as she hits her high note and the episode ends.
