Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the main rebel command ship, hidden inside the asteroid belt?

Answer: Aristotle

In an action-packed pre-opening titles sequence, Lieutenant Journey Blue is piloting the Wasp Delta, a small but agile spacecraft on the run from a much larger ship. As Journey pilots the ship, she sends a distress call to the mothership, the Aristotle, requesting assistance for her and her wounded brother.

The advancing ship, guns blazing, is revealed to be piloted by Daleks and as the Wasp is finally shot down, Journey screams and suddenly finds herself aboard the TARDIS, the Doctor having just saved her (but not her brother) a second before the Wasp exploded.
2. Which member of the medical profession does the Doctor say the molecular nano-scaler would be a terrible idea for?

Answer: Proctologist

As he is escorted through the Aristotle by Colonel Blue, the Doctor marvels at the sight of a molecular nano-scaler (that's a device that can miniaturise living matter, to you and me). When asking about its medical application, given that the Aristotle is a medical ship, the Doctor asks if the surgeon is shrunk down to go inside the patient.

When Colonel Blue says this is correct, the Doctor remarks upon how this is a "fantastic idea for a movie; terrible idea for a proctologist." The Doctor is then escorted to his patient: a malfunctioning Dalek.
3. What subject does Danny Pink teach at Coal Hill School?

Answer: Maths

Clara and Danny are introduced to one another in the staffroom, with Clara ending up asking if Danny would go with her to one of the other staff members' leaving party. Stupidly, Danny declines, saying he has some reading to do. He then goes back to his classroom and immediately regrets saying no, banging his head on his desk. Clara sees him at the door and asks him out for a drink instead.

This time, Danny seems to say the right thing.
4. How long has it been since the Doctor and Clara were going to get coffee in Glasgow (which occurred at the end of the previous episode, "Deep Breath")?

Answer: 3 weeks

The Doctor blames the long delay on the fact that he "got distracted". When questioned by Clara on what distracted him, he replies, "You can always find something," before leading her into the TARDIS. The pair re-emerge aboard the Aristotle, prior to going into the Dalek.
5. How does Clara describe herself in relation to the Doctor, after he calls Journey "gun girl" and Colonel Blue "the boss one" and "probably their uncle"?

Answer: His carer

The Doctor finds this to be a good description of Clara because "she cares so I don't have to." As the pair reach the Dalek, the Doctor is convinced that he must help the Dalek, unable to resist helping a malfunctioning Dalek that seems to think exterminating all the Daleks is the thing to do.
6. What sort of radiation is leaking inside the Dalek, causing it to malfunction?

Answer: Trionic

The Doctor patches up the leak with some handy sonic screwdriver work. However, the Dalek returns to its normal self, hellbent on exterminating any rebel creature in its wake. The Doctor (thanks to a hefty slap in the face from Clara) realises that they aren't stuck inside the Dalek.

In its brief moment of malfunction, it was open to the universe, marvelling at the sight of a star being born and realising that life will always prevail. The way out is to make the Dalek think it is good again by restoring some suppressed memories in its cortex vaults.
7. How do Ross and Gretchen die whilst inside the Dalek with the Doctor, Clara and Journey?

Answer: Vaporised by antibodies

Shortly after entering the Dalek, Ross injures it when firing a zip line. Antibodies immediately head towards this site of "infection". The Doctor gets Ross to swallow a Dalek spare part, pretending that it would save Ross. However, when he gets vaporised by the antibodies, the Doctor says he was dead anyway and tracks the spare part on the sonic screwdriver to a pool containing human waste (literally, a proteinous gloop made of the remains of humans absorbed by Daleks). Gretchen is also caught by the antibodies later, after firing a zip line to help Journey and Clara reach the Dalek's cortex vaults.
8. What happens to Gretchen after she dies?

Answer: She reaches heaven

Gretchen sacrifices herself for Journey and Clara, defending them against the oncoming antibodies. As they overwhelm her, she screams and seemingly dies. Mysteriously, Gretchen opens her eyes and finds herself in a strange room. Missy, the strange woman who welcomed the Half-Face Man to heaven after his death at the end of "Deep Breath", welcomes Gretchen to heaven.

The pair are sat at a table filled with plates of cakes as Missy offers Gretchen a cup of tea.
9. Which of these is *not* one of the three things that the Dalek says it sees in the Doctor's soul when he enters its mind?

Answer: "I see hope."

With its suppressed memories being restored, the Dalek is vulnerable. The Doctor uses this opportunity to connect himself to the Dalek's mind in a final attempt to get the Dalek to see good and to change its ways. When it sees the Doctor's hatred of the Daleks, it once again becomes convinced that this is good and that all Daleks must die. Driven by this, the Dalek goes on a rampage, destroying all the enemy Daleks invading the Aristotle.

Afterwards, the Dalek notices that the Doctor has gained a victory but does not seem pleased about it.

The Doctor says that because the Dalek saw hatred inside the Doctor's soul, it was not a victory. "A victory would have been a good Dalek."
10. How long after she leaves "her cupboard" does the Doctor return Clara to Coal Hill School?

Answer: 30 seconds

Clara returns to the TARDIS control room in a new outfit with the Doctor unaware that she'd changed. He tells her that she's back in "her cupboard" 30 seconds after she left. Before she leaves, she refers to the Doctor's earlier question as to whether he is a good man. Her answer is still "I don't know," but she adds, "But I think you try to be and that's probably the point."
