Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. John Abruzzi's sentence was 120 years.

Answer: True

John Abruzzi was sentenced to 120 years for two counts of murder and two count of conspiracy to commit murder. Abruzzi would never have been eligible for parole.
2. What was the name of the man who testified against Abruzzi?

Answer: Otto Fibonacci

He was called Otto Fibonacci. He worked at one of Abruzzi's warehouses and one night while working late, heard a noise. As he rounded the corner, he saw Abruzzi and his men stood in front of two men who were kneeling on the floor. Fibonacci watched as Abruzzi touched the men on the forehead and then gave his men the order to kill them.

They were shot dead immediately. Fibonacci couldn't deny what he saw and contacted the police. He became a witness and testified against Abruzzi. His testimony saw that Abruzzi would be incarcerated for the rest of his life.
3. What did Michael give to Abruzzi in episode one 'Pilot'?

Answer: Origami crane

Abruzzi was sat in the yard playing cards with his friends, when Michael wandered over wanting to speak to him. Abruzzi was not interested in what he had to say and told him to go away. Michael was very persistent and placed an origami crane on the table. He told Abruzzi "Come find me when you want to talk." To which Abruzzi replied "Just what I need - A duck! He later changed his mind about talking to Michael when he discovered that he had information on the whereabouts of Fibonacci.
4. Abruzzi needed information from Michael, and tried to get him to talk by doing what?

Answer: Chopping his toes off

When Michael was returning from the infirmary in episode two, he was escorted back by Bellick. Upon arriving at the gate, Bellick went indoors to get some sugar for his drink and left Michael outside. Abruzzi's men then appeared and dragged Michael into the shed.

He was pinned to the table and his footwear was removed. A pair of gardening shears were positioned close to his toes and Abruzzi started to ask him about Fibonacci. He gave Michael to the count of three, and Michael was pleading with Abruzzi, and explaining he couldn't give him the information. Abruzzi soon gave the signal and the shears came down on his toes. Abruzzi then picked up the toes and kept them so he could prove to Falzone that he had put the pressure on and tried to get the information.
5. Abruzzi and T-bag had a long standing feud, but formed an unlikely alliance to trap Michael. Abruzzi quickly changed his mind and his men turned on T-bag, but in which episode did this happen?

Answer: 'Cell Test'

Abruzzi and T-bag united in episode three 'Cell Test', after Michael refused to give up the location of Fibonacci. T-bag had taking a dislike to him after the death of Maytag in the riot and he'd vowed to get revenge. So while returning from the yard to their cells, Michael was pulled out of the line and taken to a store cupboard, where Abruzzi and T-bag were waiting for him.

They exchanged words and suddenly, Abruzzi's men were attacking T-bag. Abruzzi and Michael then left the store room and Abruzzi became the third member of the escape crew.
6. What convinced Abruzzi to change his ways?

Answer: He saw Jesus on the wall

In episode 12 'Odd Man Out', Abruzzi was in his cell gazing intently at the wall. When we saw what he was looking at, there was a damp patch on the wall. In damp patch Abruzzi could see an image of Jesus wearing the crown of thorns. Abruzzi took this as a sign and the priest came to his cell.

He prayed and the priest told him he could be saved. Abruzzi took his word and he seemed a reformed man. Even more so when he later squared up to T-bag with the opportunity to kill him, and decided to forgive him instead.

This was a decision he would later regret as when he started to walk away, T-bag revealed a razor blade that was hidden in his mouth. He took a swing and cut Abruzzi's throat.
7. What was the name of Abruzzi's friend who organised the plane?

Answer: Maggio

His name was Maggio and he was a butcher who worked for Abruzzi. He was the man who received the envelope containing the picture of Fibonacci and he was the man Abruzzi relied on for the plane. He was true to his friend and arranged the plane for him. Unfortunately though, he got impatient while waiting for Abruzzi and the other cons to arrive and the plane took off shortly before they arrived at the airstrip.
8. Who sliced Abruzzi's throat open?

Answer: T-bag

T-bag was the man responsible for slicing Abruzzi's throat. After Abruzzi had forgiven him he removed a razor blade from his mouth and sliced his throat. T-bag left Abruzzi for dead and he had to be airlifted to hospital. It looked like Abruzzi was out of the escape because when the helicopter was leaving, T-bag remarked "And then there were six."
9. When Michael gave everyone clothes after the escape in Season 2, episode 1 'Manhunt', Abruzzi complained about what item of clothing?

Answer: Trousers

He complained about the trousers he had been given. Michael had given him a pair of trousers and they were too short for him.
10. John Abruzzi died in which episode?

Answer: 'First Down'

Abruzzi died in episode four 'First Down'. He had been given a lead on where Fibonacci was, and his wife told him not to go and he agreed to stay away. He changed his mind soon after and set off to settle the debt. He arrived at the motel Fibonacci was supposedly staying at, and entered the room.

He heard the shower running but while he was in the room, he heard the sound of cars and sirens. Mahone was outside and he called for Abruzzi to come out. Abruzzi was reluctant at first, but soon came out with his weapon in his hand.

It was revealed that Fibonacci was nowhere near and the tip was a set up. Mahone warned Abruzzi he was either going back to Fox River or leaving in a coffin. Abruzzi then raised his weapon and so the signal was given and shots were fired. Abruzzi was shot dead.
