In "The Vartabedian Conundrum", Sheldon was 'diagnosed' by Stephanie, a doctor dating Leonard, with an inflamed larynx; really Stephanie just wanted Sheldon to stop talking and leave them alone for awhile. Sheldon went to Penny's as he was out of herbal tea and wanted to see if she had some.

As she was checking, Sheldon used his software to say that "some hiney would be nice" as well - of course meaning honey!

Answer: Sheldon knocked again, calling Bernadette's name.

After Sheldon knocked and called out for Bernadette three times, Penny said "Come in!" He told them he had nowhere else to be, so they could continue this as long as necessary. They told him to just come in and he did. He was there to tell them he was thinking about having sex with Amy for her birthday.

Answer: He was dressed as The Flash.

In this episode, "The Justice League Recombination", the gang was planning to attend a New Year's Eve costume party at the comic book store and dressed up as the Justice League of America. Penny and Zack were invited to join them, giving the group a fighting chance to win the top costume prize since they'd have Zack as a handsome Superman and an actual female to be their Wonder Woman. Just before leaving for the party, Penny became upset and locked herself in her apartment.

The guys took turns trying to talk to her.

When it was Sheldon's turn, he knocked over and over very fast, to simulate The Flash knocking thousands of times extremely fast. It did get Penny to open the door, to ask him what was wrong with him.

Answer: He kept knocking until Penny gave up.

This occurred in "The Monopolar Expedition". Sheldon was thrown off by Penny knocking back and kept knocking until she stopped and opened the door. Sheldon had come to let her know that he and the guys were going to the North Pole for three months on a special project, and to ask if they could use the big walk-in freezer at the Cheesecake Factory to practice working in the cold.

Answer: "What do you know, Sheldon-O?"

In this episode, Sheldon was appalled that Penny had brought a chair into her apartment that she found on the street. He was knocking on her door so much to pester her to get rid of it. He even sent Amy in to try to convince Penny to get rid of it. Penny told Amy that wasn't something a loyal friend would do, but it turned out Sheldon was right - the chair was infested and Amy was bitten while sitting in it.

Answer: He just drove the MVPD into the door.

Sheldon tried living as a mobile virtual presence device for a brief time in "The Cruciferous Vegetable Amplification" in season four. At the end of the episode, the MVPD was seen ramming into Penny's door three times, with Sheldon's voice from the screen saying her name. He was there to ask her to sing "Soft Kitty" as he had hurt his ankle falling down the stairs.

Answer: Howard

Howard said that he didn't think Penny would answer the door if she knew it was him, so he pretended to be Sheldon. He had come to ask Penny to intervene in his relationship with Bernadette. Bernadette had broken up with him but no one knew why. Penny agreed to help if he told her what happened, and he confessed that Bernadette had found out he'd had an online flirtation with a troll character in a game he was playing - who turned out to be a guy who worked at the university.

Answer: Banana bread

When Penny opened the door, Sheldon simply announced "This is banana bread". When Penny was confused, he explained that his understanding was that "an unsolicited gift of food can be a precursor to an impromptu invitation to come in and chat". He had come to talk to Penny about Leonard and Stephanie's relationship, hoping to find out what Leonard did wrong in his relationship with Penny and how he could have better success with Stephanie.

Later in the episode, he showed up again with zucchini bread and asked if Penny was going to invite him in. This time she said no.

Answer: False

While Sheldon has entered without knocking in a couple of specific moments, this was not one of them. When the other guys went camping in "The Adhesive Duck Deficiency", Sheldon was the only one home when Penny fell and needed help. He did rush over to her door when he heard her cry out, but he didn't just go right in.

Not only did he perform his knocking ritual on her apartment door, he also did it on her bedroom door after she called for him to enter the apartment. He was about to do it again approaching the closed bathroom door, but Penny pre-emptively shouted for him to just come in.

Answer: His father in bed with another woman

Sheldon told Penny about this in "The Hot Tub Contamination". It happened in the family home while his mother was at Bible study. Sheldon told Penny the experience troubled him so much, he started always knocking three times. As he said, the first time is standard, and the other two are to give people time to put their pants on.
