Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of "Whatever The Case May Be", what was Kate doing in the tree?

Answer: Picking fruit

Kate was shown high in the tree, packing her back with fruits. She commented that all of the trees near the camp had been "picked clean". When coming down, she thought she heard the creature. It turned out to be Sawyer. They heard the sound of running water and discovered a beautiful clearing.
2. In the caves, Sun was arranging a plant that she had brought. What did she say it was used for?

Answer: Headaches

While several of the survivors made their new "homes" in the caves, Jack asked Sun what her plant was used for and she replied in Korean. When he did not understand, she conveyed the message by pointing to her head and wincing. Jack then understood, and by the way Sun watched as he talked to Kate it became clear that she understood more than they thought.
3. When the tide came in everyone was hurrying to move up the beach, except who?

Answer: Charlie

While the others scrambled to move the belongings from the approaching waves, Charlie was sitting silently by himself further up the beach. Rose approached him, dragging what she salvaged with her, and realized that Charlie felt guilty about what had happened to Claire. After convincing him to help her, Rose told Charlie that he needed to get help and he asked her who would help him.
4. When Jack finally opened the metal case, what was written on the envelope he found?

Answer: "Personal Effects"

We recognized from the flashbacks that the small green envelope inside the "Personal Effects" envelope was the one from the safety deposit box at the bank. Jack asked if it was what Kate wanted. She had lied, robbed a bank, dug up the body to get the key, stolen the box... but why?
5. At the campfires, Rose explained to Charlie that she believed there was a fine line between what and what?

Answer: Faith and denial

Rose continued to believe whole-heartedly that her husband, who was in the tail section of the plane, was still alive. When Charlie asked how Rose knew her husband was alive she replied, clutching his ring, "I just know." She told him about faith and denial, and said it was better on her side. Charlie finally admitted that he needed help, and Rose comforted him while he grieved as they said a prayer by the fire.
6. At the end of "Whatever The Case May Be", Shannon revealed that the song lyrics she translated came from what type of movie?

Answer: Cartoon

From the way Shannon described the animation about computerized fish, we can deduce that it was the children's movie "Finding Nemo" that was dubbed in French. She told how the kid had watched it over and over and that the French woman repeated the "nonsense" lyrics of the song at the end over and over.

The song included lines such as "The sea of silver sparkles that change" and "Next to the pond, blue infinity". The fact that they were on the map suggests the lyrics may mean more than just a child's fantasy.
7. Throughout "Hearts and Minds" Jack interacts individually with five of the castaways. In what order does he speak with them?

Answer: Hurley, Kate, Sayid, Charlie, Locke

Hurley talked to Jack first about his "digestive issues" and asked for the doctor's opinion. Jack then found Kate and spied on her as she searched for seeds for the garden that Sun was making. (He later gave her guava seeds at the end.) Sayid found Jack in the jungle and asked him about north, showing him Locke's compass. Jack gave Charlie a hand on the beach (and some aspirin) as they built a campfire. Finally Jack approached Locke as he was watching for ships and Locke told him that the boar were migrating from the most dangerous predator of all- them.
8. When Boone questioned Locke about his method for figuring out how to open the hatch, Locke told him about Michelangelo. According to Locke, Michelangelo stared at a block of marble for four months, and _____ later it was the statue of David.

Answer: 3 years

When Boone became questionable and discouraged, Locke shared his wisdom with the story of how Michelangelo "worked" by staring every day at an eighteen foot block of marble. Three years later, he claimed, the block became the Statue of David. Boone jokingly asked if they would stare at the door for four months and did not quite get the answer he wanted.
9. When Locke met Sayid in the jungle, Sayid asked if Locke thought he would catch any boar. How did Locke respond?

Answer: "Nope."

Answering Sayid's question, Locke took a sip of water and confidently replied no, he did not believe they would catch anything. Sayid looked puzzled, and told Locke about how he was trying to figure out the French woman's maps with a makeshift compass. Locke wanted to have Sayid as an ally so he gave him a compass that he claimed not to need anymore. Sayid later discovered that Locke's compass didn't point north and the directions were skewed.
10. Which was not one of the fruits that Hurley said he had been eating lately on the island?

Answer: Oranges

When Jack asked what Hurley had been eating, he replied that it was the usual; bananas, guava, papaya, coconut, mango, passion fruit... It seems the survivors won't be starving any time soon, but Hurley needed more protein in his diet and so he went fishing with Jin.

While fishing, Hurley stepped on a sea urchin, fell on top of Jin in the water and had to eat urchin before he got his fish in the end.
