The premise of "Transparent" mainly revolves around Morton Pfefferman (Jeffrey Tambor), a former Political Science college professor who identifies as a woman, changing his name to Maura Pfefferman. "Dawson's Creek" aired from 1998 to 2003 on The WB network. The series followed the stories of a group of friends in high school, and then in college. Dick Wolf created the successful "Law & Order" franchise, which has had spin-offs like "Special Victims Unit", "Criminal Intent" and "Trial by Jury". The series premiered in 1999, and deals with "sexually-based offenses that are considered especially heinous," according to Steven Zirnkilton's opening narration of the show. Detectives Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) headlined the show for 12 seasons, after which Meloni left due to unsuccessful contract negotiations. He was replaced by Danny Pino, who played the role of Detective Nick Amaro. After Stabler's departure, Detective Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) was also introduced.

The affair between Amaro and Rollins is first suggested on episode "Reasonable Doubt", when Amaro surprisingly appears in Rollins' home, steps out of her bathroom and casually sits on her couch with her. Danny Pino claimed in an interview with TV Guide that the affair caught him by surprise. Warren Leight, an SVU showrunner, once said that even though the feelings are mutual, nothing could ever come out of the affair since it would be against NYPD regulations.

"The Affair" was created by Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi, both of whom also are writers for HBO's show "In Treatment". The series was first broadcast by Showtime, a CBS subsidiary, on 2014. It follows a romantic affair between a teacher (Noah) and Alison, a waitress. Both of their perspectives are seen throughout the show. They met in Montauk, New York.

The series won a Golden Globe for Best Television Series in the Drama category in 2014.
