Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Two guest stars appear in this episode of 'M*A*S*H'. The first plays Mr. Kwang, a South Korean draftee who performs as an orderly at the 4077th. What semi-regular guest star plays this role?

Answer: Soon-Tek Oh

Soon-Tek Oh's face is a very familiar one to avid 'M*A*S*H' fans. A Japanese-born Korean, Mr. Oh was frequently available to play various Korean roles on the show, and appeared in a total of five episodes between 1975 and 1982. This was his first appearance.
2. The other important guest star in this episode is Dennis Dugan, who plays the seemingly naive Private McShane in 'Love and Marriage'. Did Dugan ever appear in any other 'M*A*S*H' episodes?

Answer: Yes

Indeed, he did! Dennis Dugan played Colonel Potter's son-in-law in the season eleven episode 'Strange Bedfellows'. In that episode, he played a cheating husband, and in this episode he plays a young soldier trying to arrange a sleazy marriage with a Korean prostitute.

Dugan has also had roles in movies such as 'Can't Buy Me Love', 'Parenthood' and 'Happy Gilmore'.
3. Mr. Kwang is a married man who was drafted against his will into the South Korean military. Trapper and Hawkeye are very sympathetic regarding his plight, and further are very impressed by his English capabilities. Is it true that Kwang studied at a university in the United States?

Answer: No

Rather, Mr. Kwang studied English at Seoul University. It was there that, according to Kwang, two soldiers jumped out of a truck and threw him in the back. 'At that moment, I realized I had volunteered,' he suggests.
4. Despite having been forced into the military, Mr. Kwang does not seem bitter. In fact, he claims that he has only one regret. What is it?

Answer: Not having said goodbye to his wife

Mr. Kwang is a very dedicated husband, obviously, and he is very concerned about his wife, who was pregnant at the time of his involuntary recruitment into the military. This prompts Hawkeye and Trapper to promise Kwang a three-day pass so he can see his family.
5. Hawkeye and Trapper seek a three-day pass for their friend Mr. Kwang, but in order to do so, they must have Henry sign one for him. Does Henry actually sign the three-day pass they acquire for Kwang?

Answer: Yes

In his office, Henry bickers with a local woman who is asking for teeth, of all things. Radar slides in surreptitiously and asks Henry to sign some papers. When Henry asks Radar what he is signing, Radar claims that it's a secret. After a few moments of hesitation, Henry signs the 'secret papers', not realizing that he is giving Mr. Kwang a three-day pass.
6. After assisting Mr. Kwang, Trapper and Hawkeye have their attention turned to Private McShane. It seems that the young lad wants to get married to a local woman named Soong Hi, and requests that the doctors perform a physical on her to facilitate the process. Do either of the doctors recognize Soong Hi?

Answer: Yes

Hawkeye comments that he recognizes Soong Hi from Rosie's Bar, where she has occupied the same stool for years. He also makes the observation that she has a changemaker in her purse, and that her mascara is older than Private McShane.

McShane plays the naive young man, claiming that she is 21 and that the two of them are in love.
7. At a poker game that evening, the McShane situation is discussed. Hawkeye and Trapper disapprove of the potential marriage, believing that McShane is being duped, but Radar and Zale defend McShane. They suggest that he should be allowed to marry whomever he pleases. By the way, at the beginning of this scene, what 'stinky' thing is Radar munching on?

Answer: Pickles

Radar munches away on pickles and crackers, and he is accused by Hawkeye of eating a poker chip. During the conversation it comes out that the enlisted men are envious of the doctors. According to Zale, the doctors live better, eat better and 'then there's the nurses'.
8. In the Swamp, a sleazy local 'physician' named Dr. Pak attempts to convince Hawkeye and Trapper to push through Soong Hi's physical. He even sweetens it up by offering the doctors a bribe. The doctors aren't buying it, however, they already know Dr. Pak very well. What does Trapper claim Dr. Pak uses in place of penicillin?

Answer: Hair cream

Hawkeye mentions Dr. Pak's 'phony operations' and 'fake stitches', while Trapper asks if Pak still uses hair cream for penicillin. After Dr. Pak offers Hawkeye and Trapper $250 each to push through the physical, Hawkeye threatens the phony doctor with two broken legs.
9. Mr. Kwang's wife is pregnant, and he desperately wishes to see his wife. Unfortunately, he is not allowed to leave the 4077th, so Hawkeye and Radar go to Kwang Sun village to bring her back to the M*A*S*H. Do they bring her back to the 4077th in time to allow Kwang to witness the birth of his baby?

Answer: No

Unfortunately, no. On the return trip from Kwang Sun, his very pregnant wife goes into labor. She delivers the baby right there on the bus, much to Radar's extreme displeasure. After the bus arrives at the 4077th, Mr. Kwang's wife and her baby are taken to the hospital by stretcher. A white-faced Radar soon follows, also on a stretcher.
10. McShane, who Trapper and Hawkeye discover has been part of the scam to get Soong Hi to the U.S., is very disappointed to learn that his intended bride has not passed her physical. What disorder does she have that will keep her in Korea?

Answer: Tuberculosis

McShane has been promised $1000 dollars to help bring Soong Hi to the United States. When Trapper confronts him about it, he at first denies culpability, but then admits being part of the whole sleazy mess. 'Why shouldn't an enlisted man get in on the gravy?' asks McShane.
