Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What's new at the M*A*S*H 4077th? Nothing. Casualties are coming, as per usual, this time from Hill 403. A young medic named Jerry has accompanied the latest batch of wounded, and wants to observe in the operating room. What is Jerry's surname?

Answer: Nielson

Sergeant Jerry Nielson is played admirably in this episode by actor Kevin Geer. He is a medic for a platoon that is currently operating on Hill 403. Apparently, Nielson is a regular at the 4077th because all of the people at the M*A*S*H know him by his first name.
2. Charles Emerson Winchester III is very upset. It seems that his name has been withdrawn from contention for the chief position at Massachusetts General hospital in which department?

Answer: Thoracic surgery

Charles prides himself as a gifted heart surgeon, and he seems to believe that he is entitled to the coveted position of chief of thoracic surgery at Mass. Gen. Charles claims that his candidacy for the position has nothing to do with his father's contributions to the hospital.
3. Charles is so miffed at his Swampmates (and the world in general) that he vows never to speak to anyone ever again. Which of these phrases is 'absolutely' his final words?

Answer: Never, never, never!

Charles says that he will never speak to anyone at the 4077th again, period. He then utters what he claims are his 'final words', namely, 'Leave me alone'. After some cajoling from BJ and Hawkeye, he utters what he claims are 'absolutely his final words', the three word phrase, 'Never, never, never'. Naturally, Hawkeye and BJ take this as an exciting challenge...to make Charles speak.
4. In the mess tent, Hawkeye and BJ do their best to force words out of their bunkmate. BJ partakes in a particularly annoying action in the process, what is it?

Answer: Combing his mustache

First, Hawkeye and BJ sit on both sides of Charles in the mess tent, gabbing as they go. Second, they reach across his plate, passing the salt. Finally, BJ goes for the coup de grāce by combing his mustache, accompanying the action by saying, 'Comb, comb, comb, etc.' Charles is surprisingly unmoved.
5. Hawkeye and BJ are unable to offend Charles with their actions, so they resort to verbal abuse. Which of these insults is not offered up to Charles in their effort to make him speak?

Answer: Your sister dates construction workers

Hawkeye and BJ stoop to new lows with these incredible insults, but unbelievably, Charles does not budge. Since they can't overcome Charles' stubborn behavior by regular means, truly underhanded (remember that word) actions are required.
6. Another batch of wounded soldiers arrives from Hill 403, Jerry once again accompanying on the bus. Unfortunately, Jerry cannot remember a thing. Is Jerry physically wounded in any way?

Answer: No

Indeed, Jerry is unscathed physically. Mentally, however, he seems to be suffering from a terrible ailment, the kind that can be cured only by a certain type of professional, namely a psychiatrist. Colonel Potter puts in a call to Major Sidney Freedman (aka Allan Arbus).
7. Returning to the Charles situation, Hawkeye decides that the only way to crack his Swampmate is to write a phony telegram. He bribes Radar into partipating by offering which of these rewards?

Answer: Showing Radar an 'adult' magazine

Specifically, Hawkeye offers forth his latest copy of 'Nudes Illustrated'. Radar is distinctly intrigued and begins work on the telegram posthaste. The telegram will be from Massachusetts General, and will reverse the prior telegram that had released Charles from contention for the chief of thoracic surgery position.
8. After a drunken Charles has crowed a bit about his most recent telegram, Hawkeye reveals that it's a fake. Charles is incensed, and begins describing Hawkeye and BJ in various unsavory ways. Which adjective does Hawkeye offer forth for Charles' benefit here?

Answer: Underhanded

Usually not at a loss for words, Charles calls Hawkeye and BJ 'despicable' and 'insidious' before running into an adjectival roadblock. Hawkeye helps remove the obstacle, generously providing Charles with 'underhanded'. Charles then adds 'rotten' and claims that he 'loathes' his two tentmates. He follows this by giving them a beer bath.
9. Major Sidney Freedman is now on the case with Jerry. Through hypnosis, Dr. Freedman is able to discover that Jerry's younger brother has been killed. What is the name of Jerry's sibling?

Answer: Stevie

Dr. Freedman creates an elaborate scene for Jerry, complete with sound effects provided by Hawkeye and BJ. They learn that Jerry was assigned responsibility for his brother's safety by his mother, but that he failed to follow through. His brother Stevie was killed in action. 'He never got out of the bunker,' claims a distraught Jerry.
10. After Jerry has been 'cured', Dr. Freedman shares a martini with BJ and Hawkeye in the Swamp. This idyllic scene is soon broken up when Charles plays a prank on his brothers in arms. How does Charles have his revenge on Hawkeye and BJ?

Answer: He pulls the tent down on top of them

Charles enters into this prank with a telegram of his own, reading only, 'Gentleman, head's up'. Hawkeye and BJ are amused, but seem unaware of Charles' plan. They soon become privy when Charles starts a jeep that pulls the main tent pole out of the Swamp, burying them in canvas. Not exactly a prank commensurate with the one they have pulled, it nonetheless seems to have the desired effect.
