Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Two stars of the hit show "Happy Days" made at least one visit to Korea. One went on to also direct movies and the other will always be remembered as California's best Karate instructor of the 80's. Which of these pairs both appeared on "M*A*S*H"?

Answer: Ron Howard and Pat Morita

America's favorite Opie made his first more grown up appearance as a young soldier lying about his age to impress a girl. Morita was Capt. Pak who got to describe the famous "Whiplash Wang" as a guy who was, "5 ft. nothing...between 50-200 years old...looks like he fell off a charm bracelet?" Classic!
2. Any American suburban male between 40-50 can quote most of the lines to the movie "Caddyshack". One of that movie's stars portrayed a soldier on "M*A*S*H" who was in such severe shell shock, he couldn't move his legs despite the fact they were uninjured. Who played this character?

Answer: Michael O'Keefe

O'Keefe, of course, played Danny Noonan in "Caddyshack". On "M*A*S*H", Hawkeye told his character that he needed to walk if he was ever going to get any more chow. Trapper John played good cop and talked to him about Ted Williams coming to Korea to make him feel better.

Murray played a soldier in "Stripes" and Chase was in "Spies Like Us".
3. George Wendt went on to great fame as Norm Peterson on "Cheers" in the 80's and 90's. His guest appearance on "M*A*S*H" actually had him act but not speak; why was this?

Answer: Pool ball stuck in his mouth

He became another reason why Charles Winchester hated Korea.
4. Harry Morgan played Col. Potter, but he played another character early on in the series. Who was this member of the "brass"?

Answer: Gen. Steele

Steele supposedly came from a great military family, but he was nuts. He said that he was "62 years old and still fit to play halfback at the Point". By the way, that's 3 E's... not all in a row.
5. What star of the classic movie "The Green Mile" made an appearance as BJ's buddy from Philadelphia?

Answer: James Cromwell

Cromwell played Leo Bardonaro, a practical joker that joy buzzered Hawkeye and cigar blasted BJ. He was on his way home and had gotten BJ in trouble by walking in on an officer "giving dictation" to his assistant on leave. Bardonaro had registered at the hotel under BJ's name. They did get him back for his pranks by giving him an jeep empty on gas.

Hanks' wife Rita Wilson did play a bit part as a nurse once.
6. Dennis Dugan is best known for his bit parts and directing roles on a few Adam Sandler movies like "Happy Gilmore", "Big Daddy", and "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry", but he also made multiple appearances on "M*A*S*H". His first was as an enlisted man trying to marry a local "working girl" to score $1,000. His second role was as what?

Answer: Col. Potter's philandering son-in-law

He played Bob Wilson, married to Col. Potter's daughter. He had a fling on his trip to the far east, but felt bad about it. Col. Potter forgave him when he admitted a weakness of his own once.
7. Sorrell Booke is great name. He was much more well known for playing Boss Hogg on "The Dukes of Hazzard". He also showed up in an episode where Trapper had to box a gargantuan sergeant and where Hawkeye became Chief Surgeon. What was his name and rank on "M*A*S*H"?

Answer: General Bradley Barker

He had a classic run-in with the sentry man extraordinaire, Corporal Klinger.

P.S. Bo and Luke Duke's hijinks fell well short of the clever Hawkeye and Trapper.
8. Although much more famous for his starring role on "Three's Company", John Ritter played a disturbed patient who kidnapped a member of the staff in the shower. To whom did he say, "Hey, you got no clothes on?" and get a response of, "I like to take my clothes off when I shower."?

Answer: Frank Burns

When Frank thought he had apprehended the angry soldier, Trapper and Hawkeye shut him up by turning the water on him.
9. Hawkeye spent time with so many nurses, including Joan van Ark and this actress who went on to star in "Mr. Mom" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". Who is she?

Answer: Teri Garr

Hawkeye told her that he only dated nurses with good taste. She asked if she had good taste. His response was, "I don't know, I haven't tasted you yet."
10. This Actor played Col. Buzz Brighton. Old Buzz was in perfect health (he broke a record for never being sick), but was a terrible leader. His casualty rates were too high for the boys to handle, so they found a way to keep him sidelined. It was a pretty serious outcome for a comedy show. Ironically, he became well-known for comedies only later in life. Who is he?

Answer: Leslie Nielsen

Surely you can't be serious? I am serious, and stop calling me Shirley.

Jack Soo and Andrew Duggan, both long time actors, also made one show appearances on "M*A*S*H". Soo played a black market king who got Henry's 100 year old oak desk, and Duggan played Hot Lips' father, "Howitzer" Al Houlihan.

Bobby Troup starred as one of the ER doctors on the 70's show "Emergency!". He did have a bit part in the movie "M*A*S*H" as a disgruntled Jeep driver.
