Usagi is not only Sailor Moon, she's the reincarnation of Serenity, the Princess of the Moon, and the Sailor Senshi are the reincarnations of her guardians. Mamoru Chiba, aka Tuxedo Mask, was Endymion, the Prince of the Earth and he and Serenity fell in love despite being on opposite sides.

When the Moon Kingdom and the Earth went to war, both of them were killed in action (in the original anime), or Endymion was killed by Queen Beryl and Serenity impaled herself on a sword in her grief (in the manga).

The first arc of 'Sailor Moon' involves the Dark Kingdom looking for the Moon Princess, the holder of the powerful Silver Crystal, with Sailor Venus trying to throw them off the scent. Usagi only finds out who she is when Mamoru is injured and she cries over him, and the Silver Crystal appears.

Answer: Mami Tomoe

Mami Tomoe is slightly older than Madoka and her friend Sayaka, and rescues them from a Witch in the first episode. She seems to have it all - she's experienced, calm and collected, a talented fighter and even has her own theme tune - but is deeply lonely and unhappy as her parents were killed in a car crash.

She initially acts as a mentor to Madoka and Sayaka, who aspires to be like her. She restrains Homura Akemi with her ribbons while fighting the Witch Charlotte, but fights more recklessly than usual and ends up getting her head bitten off, before Charlotte eats her body in front of a horrified Madoka and Sayaka. Homura, now freed, kills Charlotte and retrieves a Grief Seed, and warns Madoka and Sayaka that this is the reality of being a Magical Girl.

In a past timeline, Mami went mad with despair after Sayaka turned into a Witch, killed Kyouko Sakura - her former partner - and tried to kill Homura, and Madoka had to shoot her Soul Gem to stop her.

Answer: Syaoran Li

The plot of 'Cardcaptor Sakura' kicks off when Sakura Kinamoto accidentally releases a set of magical cards from a book created by the sorcerer Clow Reed. Syaoran, who comes from Hong Kong, is a descendant of Clow Reed and is also looking for the Clow Cards.

He believes that he is entitled to them as a descendant of Clow Reed. Although he and Sakura butt heads at first, and he calls Sakura a weakling, they later become allies and Syaoran helps her in her search. Sakura becomes the master of the Clow Cards, which she turns into Sakura Cards, although she gives them to Syaoran in the sequel when she gets the Clear Cards.

He confesses his love to Sakura and returns to Hong Kong, but comes back to Japan two years later.

Answer: Infinity arc/Sailor Moon S

Usagi first gained her Super Sailor Moon form in the Infinity arc (the third series of the anime) upon receiving the Holy Grail. In the manga, it was created when she, Sailor Chibi Moon and Tuxedo Mask combined their powers to stop the other Sailor Senshi fighting each other when Cyprine and Ptilol, two of the Death Busters, spread discord among them.

The Inner Senshi poured the powers of their planets into the Grail, while the Outer Senshi added the power of their Talismans. In the original anime, it was created by the combined power of the Talismans. Sailor Moon transformed into her Super form by saying, "Crisis, make up!" As well as giving her a new form, the Grail also upgraded her attack that season from Moon Spiral Heart Attack to Rainbow Moon Heartache.

In the following arc, the Super form became permanent. Sailor Chibi Moon also used the Grail to transform into Super Sailor Chibi Moon.

Answer: Bow and arrow

In Episode 10, we find out that Homura has the ability to reset the timeline - an ability granted to her by Kyubey after she wished to protect Madoka - and that she was originally a shy girl with braids and glasses who was saved from a Witch by Madoka and Mami. Madoka's trademark weapon was a bow and arrows with a rose motif; Mami manipulated ribbons and could even make them into guns, Sayaka fought with cutlasses and Kyouko had a segmented spear. Homura started off by making pipe bombs and attacking with a golf club, but progressed to stealing weapons with the help of her shield, which could stop time.

She also used the shield as a place to stash weapons that she stole from gangs and the military. In the present day, she uses multiple firearms, even planting mines in a stadium.

Answer: Kerberos

Kerberos (Kero for short) is the Guardian of the Clow Cards, created by Clow Reed; he looks a bit like a teddy bear with wings and a lion's tail, and in his true form, powered by the Fiery and Earthy Cards, he resembles an armoured big cat. When Sakura accidentally releases the Clow Cards, Kero awakens after 30 years of sleep and makes Sakura a 'Cardcaptor', as he has been tasked with finding the next master of the cards.

He has a sweet tooth and speaks with a Kansai accent (New York in the dub) due to the book being kept in a library in Osaka.

He is associated with the Sun while Yue, a silver-haired androgynous figure and the other Guardian of the Clow Cards, is associated with the Moon. Yue also has the task of testing Sakura to see if she is worthy of the cards.

Answer: Sailor Mercury and Sailor Jupiter

Ami Mizuno (Sailor Mercury) and Makoto Kino (Sailor Jupiter) both go to Usagi's school, Juban Public Middle School; Minako Aino (Sailor Venus) goes to Shiba Koen Public Middle School, while Rei Hino (Sailor Mars) is at a Catholic school, TA Academy for Girls. Makoto is a transfer student and wears her old uniform. Haruka Tenoh (Sailor Uranus), Michiru Kaioh (Sailor Neptune) and Hotaru Tomoe (Sailor Saturn) all attend Mugen Gakuen (Infinity Academy), which is secretly a front for the Death Busters in the Infinity arc. Setsuna Meioh (Sailor Pluto) is a university student.

When the Inner Senshi leave middle school, Minako, Usagi, Makoto and Ami all go to the same high school, and Haruka and Michiru also transfer there, while Setsuna works at Chibiusa's primary school as a nurse.

Answer: Her little brother Tatsuya

Madoka's wish - to prevent all Witches from being born - is so powerful that, combined with all the karma accumulated over the repeated timelines, it rewrites reality and essentially turns her into a goddess. She is able to save Magical Girls across space and time and prevent them from being turned into Witches. Mami and Kyouko are also resurrected, although Sayaka stays dead and is absorbed into the Law of Cycles as she died as a Witch.

However, the downside is that Madoka has been erased from history and only Homura and Madoka's little brother Tatsuya remember her. Tatsuya draws a picture of Madoka in the sand on a beach and his mother thinks it's his imaginary friend, but only Homura knows the truth.

She keeps Madoka's hair ribbon as a souvenir.

Answer: Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle

'Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle' (styled as 'Tsubasa - RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE') is set in an alternative universe where Sakura is the Princess of Clow Country, and falls into a coma-like state after stepping on a magical symbol and losing fragments of her soul, which have turned into feathers and been scattered all over the world. Syaoran, who is the adopted son of an archaeologist in this universe, is tasked with retrieving the feathers. Various other characters from CLAMP works appear, such as Yuuko Ichihara, the shopkeeper and witch from 'xxxHOLIC'; Seishirou and Subaru from 'Tokyo Babylon' and Mokona, the fat pink rabbit-like mascot from 'Magic Knight Rayearth'. Yuuko gives Syaoran the ability to travel between worlds in exchange for his memories of Sakura.

Answer: Nobuyo Oyama

Aoi Yuuki was the voice of Madoka, Ayane Sakura played Sakura, and Kotono Mitsuishi was Sailor Moon in both the original anime series and 'Sailor Moon Crystal', the remake which was based more closely on the manga, albeit with a couple of changes. Nobuyo Oyama provided the original voice of Doraemon, the earless robot cat from the future in the anime of the same name, and later provided the voice of Monokuma, the evil robotic teddy mascot in 'Danganronpa' (which must have been weird for players who grew up with 'Doraemon'!) Sadly, Oyama had to retire from voice acting due to dementia. Wasabi Mizuta took over the role of Doraemon in 2005.
