This is the episode where Vint and Naomi want a seperation because he bought a fishing pole instead of the new bed they were supposed to get. Naomi was so upset that he didn't get "The Carousel of Love" that she left him and went to stay with LuAnn for a couple of days until one of LuAnn's fiances came to town. So Naomi was forced to live in the same house as Vint. My favorite part of that episode is when Mama gets so fed up with the two of them that she throws the rolls at them and then goes for the butter.

Of course, she automatically thinks that Bubba stole them. After all, he IS the one with the police record. And it doesn't help that after the pearls go missing, Bubba shows up with a new set of drums that he got from "some guy".

This is one of the bloopers that is noticable if you watch close enough. In one scene, Thelma is looking at the pearls and then gives them back to Iola, who carefully puts them in her pocket. Then at the end of the show, they are magically found on the back of a pillow. How did they get there?

Answer: Verna Mae Ray

Verna Mae Ray was the granddaughter of James A. Ray, the founder of Raytown. She only got the part for name value because, according to Thelma, she could "sing circles around Verna Mae".

Answer: Lolly Perdue

Thelma and Iola did a lot of campaigning for the presidency, but after getting into an argument and calling each other and everyone around them mean names, Lolly Perdue was elected instead of either one of them. In a later episode, it is revealed that Lolly Perdue cannot read or write.

Thelma inherited Captain Petey from her Uncle Oscar who owned a boat rental business called Jolly Roger Rentals. Captain Petey also came with a secret.

Answer: His cage was made of pure gold worth $50,000.

The parrot, Captain Petey, gave Thelma a riddle to figure out where Uncle Oscar's "bars of gold" were. When they couldn't figure it out and Captain Petey flew away, Thelma told Vint to get rid of the cage. Of course, this would be the time Vint would acutally do something Mama told him to do. Later, it turns out that the garbage man suddenly came into $50,000 and moved away.

Answer: Arlene

Arlene is her name and she takes up all of Iola's time. At first, Thelma is glad to have some time away from Iola, but eventually becomes extremely jealous of "Miss Perfect" Arlene. Later, it turns out the Arlene is tired of Iola smothering her and is glad to break off their friendship.

She had $100 going in to Final Jeopardy, wagered $99 and didn't have the correct answer. But for coming in second place, she won herself an all expenses paid trip for four to Hawaii. It has always been Thelma's dream to go to Hawaii, so needless to say, she was thrilled. So thrilled, in fact, that she kissed Alex Trebek right on the lips, making Iola jealous.
