After Mama goes inside, Naomi advises Effie she thinks her mind could use something a little more "stimulating" and pulls out a red book from her pocket titled "Love's Burning Heart". As Naomi reads from the provocative book about a prime minister and a woman named Daphne, Effie's eyes grow wider. The book Mama had Naomi reading to Effie was "Little Women".

Piano music plays as she reads the book. Vinton is busy preparing and studying for his induction ceremony and hasn't had time for Naomi. At first, she is happy that he is getting into the club but that changes once he starts spending all of his time obsessing over becoming a member and not spending any time with her. Mama says that Naomi is so lonely that she'd offered to help her do the dishes.

"Ladies Circle" is mentioned several times throughout the six season run of the show. This is also the magazine that published "Merv Griffin's Chicken Wings" which included the recipe. Iola mentions on more than one occasion that she gets instructions on how to make certain handy craft items from the magazine. Mama and Naomi also read the magazine from time to time, as shown in multiple episodes. I love the work the set production team put into the brands and items on "Mama's Family"; they even created their own towns and landmarks for the show.

Iola ends up not getting the medicine her mother needs, due to a man reading a magazine on the bus. Iola assumes he is making inappropriate gestures with his hand by touching a woman's bathing suit as she (Iola) is sitting next to him. Mama can't believe Iola lets her mother "scratch herself to death" due to a man reading a magazine next to her on the bus.

Buzz's room is in the attic, which is located on the third floor of the family home. Viewers of the show get to see a part of the attic in the episode "Mama's Birthday" when Mama and Buzz are in the attic looking at pictures. Sonja's room is located on the second floor, along with Mama's room and Fran's room. Vinton and Naomi's room is in the basement for almost the entire six seasons of "Mama's Family".

A continuity error of the layout of the home occurs during the syndicated years, as Sonja's room no longer exists, leaving two bedrooms upstairs which belong to Mama and Bubba.

Mama's room is the one room that is never shown on "Mama's Family". Vinton and Naomi's basement room is shown more than once, and Aunt Fran and Bubba's room is shown multiple times as well. In the episode "Double Standard", Sonja's room is shown as Vinton helps Buzz with his tie and talks to him about being a "guy".

Eunice is thrilled to have a part in a play at the Pepperpot Playhouse, and Mama invites herself to come with her to rehearsal. Sally ends up telling the director of the play that she feels like she has "egg on her face" after Eunice recites her lines. Sally ends up taking the lines that Eunice had and making them hers for her character. Eunice ends up decking everybody at the Pepperpot Playhouse due to this. Sally's poster is clearly shown in the background in several shots as Eunice argues with the director and Sally herself.

The poster shows her name as Sally Nash with her picture above the name.

During the "Pilot" episode, Mama brings up the fact that Mitzi ran off to be a showgirl in Las Vegas. Mitzi is never actually shown and is only mentioned a few times throughout the series.

Mama offers to help May June by cleaning toilets at a local moose hall, knowing that she is the local expert in winning flowers. When May June insists Iola's flower is the perfect marriage between a herbert hoover and a danty bess, Thelma decides to name it Princess Thelma (for the Royal Court of Honor) and enter it into "The Crystal Thorn" contest.

The flower ends up being destroyed as Naomi, Mama and Iola fight over it, and they do not get to enter it into the contest. I love when Thelma gets home from helping May June and says, "So long, May June", then May June peels out down the road.

This episode, titled "Mama goes Hawaiian", is a two part episode where Iola and Mama's family all travel to the islands. Iola finds love with a sailor, Bubba finds love with a local Hawaiian girl (who turns out to live in New Jersey), Naomi gets a horrible sun burn and can't leave the hotel room, Mama drinks Chi Chi's and searches for her "Aloha hula lamp", and Vinton plays golf with some of Billy's friends and makes them a ton of money.

This is such a funny episode, and a great vacation episode as well.

Thelma goes to visit Gert in a retirement home and takes her a birthday present. Gert just sits in bed all day and doesn't seem to have any life left in her, until Thelma comes along and changes her life. Thelma and Gert were school friends and grew up together, and played tricks on Fran. Gert says she doesn't want to marry the man, just "shack up" with him.

Vinton ends up spending the money he is supposed to buy their new bed with for a fishing rod and reel. Naomi ends up moving in with Louanne in the Wagon's Ho Trailer Park on Route 5. When one of Louanne's fiances return to the trailer, Naomi returns home to stay as a invited guest of Mama temporarily. By the end of the episode, Vint and Naomi make up and go to the basement to celebrate.

Mama mentions to Richard Dawson in the episode "Family Feud" that they've had "Fluffy for years". Fluffy is also mentioned in episodes of "The Carol Burnett Show"; one episode has Eunice finding out what really happened to Fluffy.
