Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Captain of the guard in Winterfell, accompanied Eddard Stark to King's Landing (season 1)

Answer: Jory Cassel

We first see Jory in the very first episode of the series, when Eddard Stark questions a Night's Watch deserter named Will, before executing him. Jory is present when Robb Stark and Jon Snow find the direwolf pups. When Eddard travels to King's Landing to assume the position of Hand of the King and investigate the mysterious death of his predecessor, Jon Arryn, Jory goes with him. Eddard sends Jory to speak with Arryn's former squire, Ser Hugh of the Vale.

However, Hugh refuses to speak to Jory, because Jory is not a knight. Later, when Petyr Baelish offers to lead Eddard to the last person Jon Arryn visited before his death, Jory again follows his liege lord. Unfortunately for them, when they exit the building Baelish led them to, they are met by a group of Lannister men-at-arms, led by Jaime Lannister, who is angry about his brother's arrest by Eddard's wife.

A fight ensues and Jory takes down two Lannister men before facing Jaime. As the two men fight with their swords, Jaime produces a dirk and fatally stabs Jory.
2. An armorer, whose apprentice is Robert Baratheon's illegitimate son (season 1)

Answer: Tobho Mott

Tobho Mott does not hail from Westeros, but from the Free City of Qohor. Despite the fact that he charges the double in comparison with other armorers, his skill in unquestioned. In the fourth episode of season 1, Eddard Stark goes to see him, because he had learned that his predecessor Jon Arryn had visited Mott shortly before his death. Mott tells Eddard that Arryn had developed an interest to his apprentice, Gendry.

When Eddard sees the young man as well, he understands that he is Robert's natural-born son. We see Mott again in season 2, when the Commander of the City Watch of King's Landing, Janos Slynt, questions him on the whereabouts of Gendry, whom King Joffrey Baratheon wants dead, in order to eliminate potential rivals to his claim to the Iron Throne. Mott tells Slynt that Gendry has joined the Night's Watch and that he can be identified by the bull's head helmet he wears.
3. A leader of the Vale mountain clansmen, fights with Tyrion Lannister at the Battle of the Green Fork (season 1)

Answer: Shagga

Shagga is first seen at the eighth episode of season 1. When Tyrion Lannister and Bronn, a sellsword in his service, leave the Eyrie in order to join Tywin Lannister's army, they are ambushed by Shagga's clansmen. Shagga intends to kill Bronn and take Tyrion captive, as his personal jester.

However, Tyrion points out that the clansmen and House Lannister have a common enemy: House Arryn and House Stark. Tyrion also promises a rich reward to the clansmen, provided they fight for him. Shagga and some other chieftains, including Chella and Timmett, go with Tyrion to the main Lannister encampment. Tyrion's father, Tywin, enlists the clansmen in his army and accepts Shagga's insistence for Tyrion to fight with them.

Despite their lack of discipline, the clansmen perform well in the Battle of the Green Fork, helping the Lannisters crush a force of 2000 Northmen.
4. A sellsail pirate, whom Davos Seaworth persuades to fight for Stannis Baratheon (season 2)

Answer: Salladhor Saan

Salladhor first appears in the second episode of season 2, talking with Davos Seaworth at the beach of Dragonstone. Davos tells him that, when King's Landing falls, he will be richly rewarded, but the pirate is skeptical of Stannis' ability to win the war, because he has few men. Consequently, Salladhor remarks that it is rare for a smuggler to vouch for the honor of a king.

He finally agrees, when promised gold and glory. Later, Davos reports to Stannis that Salladhor will fight for them, further remarking that while the pirate is not entirely trustworthy, he has been tantalized by Davos' promises.

After the defeat at the Battle of the Blackwater, Salladhor abandons Stannis' cause, but is later recruited again by Davos, after he has secured a loan from the Iron Bank of Braavos on behalf of Stannis.
5. Theon Greyjoy's first mate, who turns him over to the Boltons (season 2)

Answer: Dagmer Cleftjaw

Dagmer makes his first appearance in the fifth episode of season 2, when he meets Theon Greyjoy, the son of Balon Greyjoy, who had been a hostage and ward of the Starks until recently. Balon has given Theon one ship and orders to raid a place in the North called the Stony Shore. Dagmer is appointed as Theon's first mate.

When Theon goes to his ship, he finds his crew insolent and refusing to obey him. Dagmer tells Theon that he must first earn the respect of his men and then he will have their obedience, prompting Theon to attack Winterfell itself, by the means of staging an attack against the nearby Torrhen's Square.

Theon proves successful, having taken the castle and the two youngest Stark boys. However, a wildling, Osha, manages to free the two Starks and escape from Winterfell. Things go even worse for the Ironborn when a northern host under Ramsay Snow besieges the castle. Dagmer decides to betray Theon and give him to the Northmen, hoping that he and his men will be allowed to return to the Iron Islands. So, when Theon rallies his soldiers with the intention to fight, Dagmer knocks him unconscious and turn him over. But, as we are told in season 3, Ramsay Snow did not allow the Ironborn to walk free, but had them killed.
6. A Kingsguard member, attempts to assassinate Tyrion Lannister during the Battle of the Blackwater (season 2)

Answer: Ser Mandon Moore

Ser Mandon was first glimpsed in season 1, as one of the Kingsguard members who opposed Eddard Stark when he tried to de-throne Joffrey Baratheon. In season 2, Ser Mandon, alongside Ser Boros Blount, stands by Joffrey's side, inspecting the defenses of King's Landing, shortly before the Battle of the Blackwater.

When the battle begins, Joffrey hides in the Red Keep, ordering his two Kingsguard knights to aid Tyrion Lannister in the battle. In the mayhem of the battle, Ser Mandon tries to kill Tyrion, but his first strike just hits Tyrion in the face.

When he raises his sword for the second strike, Mandon is hit from behind by Tyrion's squire, Podrick Payne, and killed. Later, Tyrion wonders who ordered Mandon to kill him, at first believing it was his sister, Cersei, but finally arrives to the conclusion that it was Joffrey in a fit of rage.
7. A warlock of Qarth, schemes to imprison Daenerys Targaryen in the House of the Undying (season 2)

Answer: Pyat Pree

Pyat Pree makes his first appearance in the fourth episode of season 2. When Xaro Xhoan Daxos, one of the members of the Thirteen, the ruling group of the city of Qarth, throws a party in honor of Daenerys Targaryen, he is present. Pree is also one of the Thirteen and encourages Daenerys to visit the House of the Undying. Later, when Daenerys' dragons are stolen from Xaro's home, he calls the Thirteen in his residence, seemingly to investigate the theft.

When the rest of the Thirteen arrive, duplicates of Pyat Pree appear and kill all of them, except Pree himself and Xaro.

It is revealed that Xaro and Pree orchestrated the theft of Daenerys' dragons and that they are at the House of the Undying. She decides to go there and retrieve them. When she enters the place, Pree uses illusions to lure her to the room where the dragons are chained.

The warlock reveals that his magic was fueled when the dragons were born and tells Daenerys that she will stay there forever. Unfortunately for him, Daenerys commands her dragons to unleash their fire, which they do, killing Pree.
8. Leads the muntiny at Craster's Keep that results in the death of Jeor Mormont, Lord Commander of the Night's Watch (season 3)

Answer: Karl Tanner

At one point, Karl loses his temper and calls Craster a "bastard", enraging him. Craster surges forward to kill Karl, but Karl is quicker. Karl's actions trigger a mutiny where Lord Commander Mormont and many loyal brothers of the Night's Watch are killed and the Keep being overrun by the mutineers. Karl is seen again in season 4, when Jon Snow and a band of volunteers face the mutineers. Karl faces Jon in single combat and initially has the upper hand, but Jon finally manages to dispatch him using Longclaw, the ancestral sword of House Mormont, which Lord Commander Jeor had gifted to Jon earlier.
9. A Braavosi banker, agrees to fund Stannis Baratheon's cause (season 4)

Answer: Tycho Nestoris

Tycho is seen in the sixth episode of season 4, when King Stannis Baratheon and his Hand, Ser Davos Seaworth, travel to Braavos, in order to secure a loan from the Iron Bank, so that they can hire mercenaries and claim Stannis' birthright to the Iron Throne.

They are received after being made to wait for many hours. Tycho is at first reluctant to support Stannis, because he has only 32 ships and 4000 soldiers, while his seat, Dragonstone, does not produce enough grain for his men to subsist on. But then, Davos tells Tycho that the real power behind Joffrey and Tommen Baratheon's claim to the throne is Tywin Lannister, who is old (67 years old) and deeply indebted to the Iron Bank.

When Tywin dies, only one leader in Westeros will be reliable: Stannis, who is in his prime, is a tested battle commander and has the rightful claim. Upon hearing that, Tycho relents.
10. Captain of the guard of Doran Martell, captures Jaime Lannister and Bronn (season 5)

Doran is afraid that Ellaria and Oberyn's daughters, the Sand Snakes, will try to harm Myrcella Baratheon and instructs Hotah to watch over them. Later, when Jaime Lannister and the sellsword Bronn attempt to take Myrcella and the Sand Snakes try to stop them, Hotah intervenes and imprisons both parties. Later, Doran decides to let Myrcella go back to King's Landing and to have Jaime and Bronn accompany her.

However, before Bronn can walk away free, Hotah strikes in the face, in retaliation for being struck by Bronn earlier.
