Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Gifts three petrified dragon eggs to Daenerys Targaryen

Answer: Illyrio Mopatis

Illyrio Mopatis is the magister of the free city of Pentos. In the first episode, we see him giving the dragon eggs to Daenerys, as a wedding present when she is getting married to Khal Drogo. Daenerys' brother, Viserys, hopes that if Drogo becomes enamored by his bride, he will help Viserys conquer the Seven Kingdome from King Robert Baratheon.

In the end of Season 1, after both Viserys' death in the hands of Drogo, whom Daenerys has come to love and of Drogo, in the hands of a Lhazareen witch, Daenerys places the eggs in Drogo's funeral pyre and they unexpectedly hatch. Thus, the ultimate gift of Illyrio to Daenerys was three live dragons.
2. Tells Bran Stark a story about the White Walkers and the Long Night

Answer: Old Nan

Old Nan is one of the oldest people in Winterfell. After Bran Stark wakes up from the coma he had fallen in after being pushed from a tower by Jaime Lannister, because he had discovered him fornicating with his own sister, Queen Cersei, Old Nan keeps him company.

Initially she offers to tell him a story about Ser Duncan the Tall, but Bran requests a scary story. She then starts telling him about the Long Night, but her story is interrupted by Robb Stark, who dismisses her, wanting to spend some time alone with his little brother.
3. Offers to help Eddard Stark for the sake of the love he had for Eddard's wife

Answer: Petyr Baelish

Petyr Baelish is called "Littlefinger". He earned this nickname because he was never particularly tall and he hailed from an area in the Vale called "The Fingers". When he was young, he was fostered at Riverrun by Hoster Tully, where he developed an affection for Hoster's daughter, Catelyn, who later became Ned Stark's wife, but, back then, had been promised to his older brother, Brandon. Baelish fought a duel with Brandon, which left him alive, but with a scar from his navel to his throat.

When Eddard comes to King's Landing to investigate Jon Arryn's death, Baelish is initially helpful.

However, after King Robert's death, Baelish and the Commander of the City Watch of King's Landing, Janos Slynt, betray Eddard.
4. Jon Arryn's former squire, "accidentally" killed by Gregor Clegane in a joust

Answer: Ser Hugh

Ser Hugh was Jon Arryn's squire and became a knight shortly after his mentor's death. In the fourth episode, Eddard Stark sends his captain of the guard, Jory Cassel, to speak to Hugh about Arryn's death, but the arrogant upjumped youngster refuses to speak to Jory, who is no knight.

In the next episode, in a seemingly friendly joust, Hugh is killed by Gregor Clegane, a Lannister bannerman who is known as "The Mountain". The eunuch Varys later suggests to Eddard that the Lannisters were behind Hugh's demise.
5. Has Arya Stark chasing cats, as part of her swordfight training

Answer: Syrio Forel

Syrio Forel is a Braavosi swordsman, who had been the First Sword of the Sealord of Braavos for nine years. He is hired by Eddard Stark to train Arya on how to use a sword properly, after he discovers that Arya has a sword in her keeping. Because the Braavosi fighting style is called "the water dance", almost everybody, including Arya's sister, Sansa, believes that Syrio is teaching Arya how to dance.

In the eighth episode, after Eddard's arrest by the Lannisters, a detachment led by Meryn Trant is sent to fetch Arya. Syrio, however, steps forward and engages them, giving Arya time to escape.

He is then possibly killed by Meryn Trant, because while Trant was fully armored and had a real sword, Syrio was armed only with a wooden, blunt stick.
6. Fights for Tyrion Lannister at his trial by combat in the Eyrie

Answer: Bronn

Bronn is a sellsword. We first see him at the fourth episode, when Catelyn Stark arrests Tyrion Lannister, suspecting him for paying an assassin to kill her son, Bran. Bronn is one of the men who accompany Catelyn to the Eyrie, where Catelyn's sister, Lysa, resides. Upon arriving and after a battle with the savage hill-tribes, where Bronn fights very well, Tyrion is put to the sky-cells.

In order to come out of his cell, Tyrion tells his gaoler that he wants to confess his crimes, but whe brought before Lysa he demands a trial by combat. Bronn steps forward to fight for him and defeats Lysa's champion.

He later accompanies Tyrion in the Battle of the Green Fork and on the way to King's Landing, after Tyrion's father, Tywin, ordered him to act as Hand of the King in his stead.
7. Corrupt commander of the City Watch of King's Landing, massacres Eddard Stark's men in the Red Keep

Answer: Janos Slynt

We first see Janos Slynt in the fourth episode, where he complains before the small council that he does not have enough men to maintain peace and order in King's Landing, despite the fact that he has two thousand men under his command. While Renly Baratheon suggests dismissing Slynt and finding a better man to do the job, Eddard Stark gives him twenty of his household guard and tells Petyr Baelish to find enough money to hire fifty more men. Later, Eddard asks Littlefinger to persuade Slynt support Eddard's plan of taking Cersei Lannister and her children, who are not King Robert's children, but abominations born of incest between Queen Cersei and her brother, Jaime, into custody.

When Eddard goes to the throne room, after Robert's death, to face Cersei, Littlefinger lies to him that Slynt is on his side. Slynt, however, betrays Eddard, who is taken at the black cells and later executed by order of King Joffrey. Joffrey rewards Slynt handsomely for his treachery, by giving him the castle of Harrenhal as his seat.
8. Leads the Lannister detachment sent to capture Arya Stark

Answer: Meryn Trant

Meryn Trant is a knight of the Kingsguard. He was first seen in the eighth episode, when he breaks into the room where Arya Stark is engaged in sword practice with her teacher, Syrio Forel. Trant lies to Arya that he was sent by her father, but then Syrio asks why did Lord Eddard send Lannister men and not his own household guard.

He then proceeds to disarm Trant's men with the wooden practice sword he holds, giving Arya time to escape. Trant goes for him and possibly kills him. In the tenth episode, when Joffrey Baratheon tells Sansa Stark that he will kill her brother, Robb, who is leading a rebellion against the Iron Throne, Sansa retorts that maybe Robb will be the one slaying Joffrey. Joffrey then orders Trant to beat her, which the knight does with no qualms.
9. Intercepts all messages Walder Frey may has decided to send to the Lannisters

Answer: Theon Greyjoy

Theon Greyjoy is the son of Balon Greyjoy, Lord of the Iron Islands. When Theon was a boy, Balon rose in rebellion against King Robert Baratheon, but his fleet was destroyed by Robert's brother, Stannis and his army was defeated in the Siege of Pyke. Eddard Stark took Theon as a ward and hostage, but raised him among his own sons.

Theon and Robb Stark have developed a bond of friendship. Theon is an exceptional archer. When Robb Stark calls the banners, after his lord father's arrest by the Lannisters, Theon marches with him.

When they reach the Twins, the castle ruled by Walder Frey, a Tully bannerman who has become notorious for pledging his allegiance to the side that is clearly winning, Theon shoots down all messenger ravens that come out of the castle, preventing any communication between the Freys and the Lannisters.

After the news of Eddard's execution reach the northern camp, Robb Stark is proclaimed "King in the North" by his bannermen. Theon asks Robb if they are brothers, now and always.

When Robb responds that they are indeed, Theon pledges his sword to him.
10. While a prisoner of the Starks, he tells Catelyn Stark that "there are no men like me, only me".

Answer: Jaime Lannister

Jaime Lannister is the first born son of Lord Tywin Lannister and his wife, Joanna. He was the youngest man to be ever appointed in the Kingsguard, at the reign of King Aerys II Targaryan, later known as "The Mad King". When it was apparent that the Targaryens were losing the war against Robert Baratheon, the Mad King gave his pyromancers the order to burn King's Landing and all the people within it with wildfire. For this reason and despite his vows, Jaime slew the Mad King, an act that resulted in him being known as "The Kingslayer". Of the whole Lannister family, Jaime is the only one to show respect and kindness to his dwarf brother, Tyrion.

However, Jaime has a dark side, as well. Not only he has developed an incestuous relationship with his sister, Cersei, but he also has no objections to commit rather violent acts, such as throwing Bran Stark from a tower in Winterfell, in order to keep his secrets.
