Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Law & Order
Answer: Dr Elizabeth Rodgers
Leslie Hendrix played the character of Dr Elizabeth Rodgers for nineteen seasons of the hit show "Law & Order", the longest-running role in that series. She switched from surgeon to coroner when she discovered that she didn't enjoy cutting into living bodies.
She appeared also on the other New York franchises of "Law & Order", and at one time was romantically involved with Danny Ross of "Law & Order CI". Her hobbies were opera and crime stories.
2. CSI New York
Answer: Dr Sid Hammerback
Dr Sid Hammerback was the coroner on "CSI: New York" for eight seasons, but the show makes it clear that he has been a medical examiner for a much longer period. He has a number of his own adventures on the show, including a life-threatening allergic attack from a meatball sandwich and patenting a pillow which earned him $27 million dollars. He was played by Canadian actor Robert Joy.
3. Hawaii Five-0
Answer: Dr Max Bergman
Played by Japanese-American actor Masi Oka, Dr Max Bergman has been the coroner in every season of "Hawaii Five-0". In season two we learn that his birth-name was Takeshita and that he was abandoned by his mother at a church and then later adopted by the Bergmans. He loves Halloween and dressing up in elaborate costumes.
4. CSI Miami
Answer: Dr Alexx Woods
Dr Alexx Woods was the coroner for six seasons on "CSI: Miami". She enjoyed a very close and warm relationship with the other core characters on the series, often acting as a "mother-figure" to the younger members of the cast. She was married with two children, and when her son Brian got into trouble in season six, she left her demanding job as a coroner for that of a surgeon with more regular hours.
She was played by Khandi Alexander.
5. Castle
Answer: Dr Lanie Parish
Dr Lanie Parish, played by Tamala Jones, was one of the two recurring medical examiners on "Castle", the other being the unpleasant and curt Sidney Perlmutter. Dr Parish was the principal examiner on the show and was listed as one of the core characters. For a while she had a strong romance with Javier Esposito, one of the detectives, a romance which they tried to keep secret but which was obvious to everyone else in the squad room. Dr Parish was especially close to the lead character, Kate Beckett, and encouraged her romance with Richard Castle.
6. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (original series)
Answer: Dr Al Robbins
Dr Al Robbins was the medical examiner on the graveyard shift on the first "CSI", the shift over which Gil Grissom and his crew preside. He appeared in the series for ten seasons and was especially close to Gil Grissom with whom he had an easy relationship on the show.
He was played by Robert David Hall, who like the character he played had both legs amputated after an accident. In one late episode he learned that he was related to Buffalo Bill Cody.
7. NCIS
Answer: Dr Donald "Ducky" Mallard
Dr Donald "Ducky" Mallard is probably the best-known of TV's medical examiners in the 21st century. He has been a regular member of the cast of "NCIS" since its beginning in 2003, and we have learned a great deal about his personal life, about which he loves to reminisce.
Born in Scotland, he attended Eton College and Edinburgh University, served in Afghanistan and Bosnia, and joined NCIS in 1992. He is played by David McCallum, who became known to television audiences through his role as Illya Kuriakin in "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.".
In a clever cross-reference someone asks Leroy Jethro Gibbs who "Ducky" looked like when he was younger; Gibbs's answer was "Illya Kuriakin".
8. Crossing Jordan
Answer: Dr Garret Macy
Dr Macy has the unenviable task of keeping control over Dr Jordan Cavanaugh, a forensic pathologist in his department who has struggled with a variety of personal issues in her career, while he has to deal with his own issues in his personal and family life. He is played by the actor Miguel Ferrer, who moved on to play NCIS Assistant Director Owen Granger in "NCIS Los Angeles".
9. Bones
Answer: Dr Camille Saroyan
Dr Camille Saroyan, played by Tamara Taylor, joined the regular cast of "Bones" in the second season as the Director of Forensic Medicine at the Jeffersonian Institute. In season 8 we learned that she had previously been a coroner in New York City and signed 900 death certificates on the day of the attacks on September 11, 2001.
10. NCIS New Orleans
Answer: Dr Loretta Wade
Dr Loretta Wade is played by veteran actress C.C.H. Pounder and was part of the regular cast of "NCIS: New Orleans" from its pilot episode. She is the chief Medical Examiner for Jefferson Parish and does forensic work for NCIS there. She has a particularly close relationship with the two male leads on the series, Dwayne Pride and Christopher LaSalle.
