Dr Temperance Brennan is a forensic anthropologist known in Kathy Reich's books as 'Tempe' and in the TV series as 'Bones' by her partner FBI agent Seeley Booth. The TV series is very loosely based on the books, with actress Emily Deschanel portraying Brennan, aiding the FBI in their various murder investigations. Author Kathy Reichs is a forensic anthropologist herself and published eighteen Dr Brennan books from 1997 to 2015. Reichs is a producer for the "Bones" TV series.

Detective Jane Rizzoli and Dr Maura Isles are characters created by author Tess Gerritsen. Twelve novels were published in the "Rizzoli & Isles" series from 2001 to 2017 starting with the first novel called "The Surgeon" which introduced Rizzoli. They encounter a tribe of people, descendant from those that survived the nuclear fallout, whom they inadvertently go to war with. They are simply referred to as 'Grounders'.

5. Elementary

"Elementary" is loosely based on the Sherlock Holmes novels written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Starring Johnny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu of "Charlie's Angels" fame as Dr Joan Watson, it is essentially Sherlock Holmes in the modern era.
Many of the characters from the novels are also found, including Holmes' brother Mycroft, as well as his nemesis Moriarty. In this case, Moriarty is a woman, Jamie Moriarty portrayed by Natalie Dormer who acted in the TV series "The Tudors" as well as "Game of Thrones".

"Wire In The Blood" is a British crime drama based on a series of novels written by Scottish author, Val McDermid. The specific series is known as the "Tony Hill and Carol Jordan" series and ten books had been published from 1995 to 2017 although the series itself only ran from 2002 to 2008. Dr Tony Hill is a clinical psychologist who works with law enforcement to track down serial killers.
