Dr Temperance Brennan is a forensic anthropologist known in Kathy Reich's books as 'Tempe' and in the TV series as 'Bones' by her partner FBI agent Seeley Booth. The TV series is very loosely based on the books, with actress Emily Deschanel portraying Brennan, aiding the FBI in their various murder investigations. Author Kathy Reichs is a forensic anthropologist herself and published eighteen Dr Brennan books from 1997 to 2015. Reichs is a producer for the "Bones" TV series.
2. Rizzoli & Isles

Answer: Tess Gerritsen

Detective Jane Rizzoli and Dr Maura Isles are characters created by author Tess Gerritsen. Twelve novels were published in the "Rizzoli & Isles" series from 2001 to 2017 starting with the first novel called "The Surgeon" which introduced Rizzoli. The TV series lasted for seven seasons and featured Angie Harmon in the role of Rizzoli and Sasha Alexander in that of Dr Isles. Sasha Alexander married famous actress Sophia Loren's son in 2007.
3. Shadowhunters

The TV series "Shadowhunters" is based on the series of fantasy novels called "The Mortal Instruments" written by author Cassandra Clare. The TV series followed after the big screen adaptation of the novels called "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" (2013) which starred Lily Collins, daughter of music legend Phil Collins, in the main role as Clary Fray.

The shadowhunters are a combination of human and angel and their role is to hunt down demons and eliminate them.
4. The 100

Answer: Kass Morgan

"The 100" is loosely based on the book of the same name written by Kass Morgan. After the Earth is struck with a massive nuclear event and mankind is destroyed, a number of survivors orbit the earth in a space station called the Ark. Almost a hundred years after the event, a hundred juvenile delinquents are sent down to earth to determine whether it was habitable.

They encounter a tribe of people, descendant from those that survived the nuclear fallout, whom they inadvertently go to war with. They are simply referred to as 'Grounders'.

There are many more facets to this show, but I would hate to give away too many spoilers.
5. Elementary

Answer: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

"Elementary" is loosely based on the Sherlock Holmes novels written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Starring Johnny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu of "Charlie's Angels" fame as Dr Joan Watson, it is essentially Sherlock Holmes in the modern era.

Many of the characters from the novels are also found, including Holmes' brother Mycroft, as well as his nemesis Moriarty. In this case, Moriarty is a woman, Jamie Moriarty portrayed by Natalie Dormer who acted in the TV series "The Tudors" as well as "Game of Thrones".
6. Wire In The Blood

"Wire In The Blood" is a British crime drama based on a series of novels written by Scottish author, Val McDermid. The specific series is known as the "Tony Hill and Carol Jordan" series and ten books had been published from 1995 to 2017 although the series itself only ran from 2002 to 2008. Dr Tony Hill is a clinical psychologist who works with law enforcement to track down serial killers.
7. Dexter

Answer: Jeff Lindsay

Jeff Lindsay wrote the book "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" on which the first season of the TV series is based, published in 2004. Lindsay went on to publish a further seven "Dexter" novels, culminating in the 2015 novel titled "Dexter Is Dead". The television series lasted for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013 and featured Michael C. Hall in the titular role. Dexter worked as a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department and killed bad guys in his spare time.
8. The Shannara Chronicles

Answer: Terry Brooks

"The Sword of Shannara Trilogy", written by Terry Brooks, consists of "The Sword of Shannara", "The Elfstones of Shannara" and "The Wishsong of Shannara", all published in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The TV series is from all three books, but focuses primarily on the novel "The Elfstones of Shannara".

There are elves, trolls, gnomes and druids and a very complicated quest to save a tree and keep demons from the world.
9. Pretty Little Liars

Answer: Sara Shepard

Sara Shepard has written two different series of young adult novels which have been adapted for television, the first being "Pretty Little Liars" which consists of sixteen novels and the second being "The Lying Game" which consists of eight novels (including two prequel novels). "Pretty Little Liars" aired for seven seasons and features a story of five friends, one of whom disappears and is found murdered.

A mysterious antagonist threatens and tortures the remaining friends.
10. Bosch

Answer: Michael Connelly

Detective Hieronymous "Harry" Bosch is the main character in the Michael Connelly novels on which the TV series is based. Bosch is a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department and is portrayed by Titus Welliver, known for a number of films like "Air Force One" (1997) also starring Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck's Academy Award winning "Argo"(2012). Connelly published twenty Harry Bosch novels from 1992 ("Black Echo") to 2017 ("Two Kinds of Truth").
