Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Shanghai in Leg 1, teams needed to locate a woman on The Bund who was in possession of which of the following?

Answer: An abacus

This race's first leg sent teams on a seventeen hour trip from Los Angeles to Shanghai for a whirlwind series of tasks in one of China's biggest cities. This leg saw the return of the double Road Block (one being a dexterity challenge and the other being a gross eating challenge). To end off the leg, the teams raced to The Bund to locate a woman with an abacus who would direct them (via clue) to the Pit Stop on top of the Bund Signal Tower.
2. What Indonesian city was the focus of Leg 2?

Answer: Surabaya

The race progressed from China's largest city to Indonesia's most populated island, Java, as teams touched down in the city of Surabaya to get their hands dirty doing as the locals do. In addition to joining in an early-morning bull race, team members played with local children for their exhausting Road Block task and finished off the leg at a local fish market, choosing between two tough, physical, wet Detour options before checking in at the Pit Stop. Natalie and Nadiya won the Express Pass for placing first; Amy and Daniel were eliminated for placing last.
3. In Dhaka, Bangladesh, teams took what form of transportation to Swarighat to reach their fourth Pit Stop?

Answer: Boat

Teams flew deeper into Asia in Legs 4 and 5, spending two legs in the city of Dhaka, Bangladesh's capital. The fourth leg ended with a series of transportation expectations. Following an exhausting Road Block and Detour, teams had to locate a local boat terminal and ride to Swarighat before proceeding to the Pit Stop on foot.

The complications that arose from this resulted in Gary and Will arriving in last place and getting eliminated. The fifth leg, also in Dhaka, ended up being a non-elimination leg, sparing Josh and Brent.
4. Which team was forced to complete a Speed Bump outside the New Mosque (Yeni Camii) in Istanbul, Turkey (in Leg 6)?

Answer: Josh and Brent

For surviving their fifth leg (in Bangladesh) with a non-elimination Pit Stop, Josh and Brent were forced to complete an additional task halfway through their adventure in Istanbul in Leg 6. For this task they needed to leave the Spice Market and visit the New Mosque to eat two ice creams from a local vendor.

This, of course, included a tricky performance piece. They survived the leg in sixth place while Ron and Kelley were eliminated. The rest of the leg featured Turkish baths, simits, a ferry ride across the Bosphorus, and Turkish sherbet.
5. During their two legs in Moscow (Legs 7 and 8), teams completed which of the following types of tasks at the Trees of Love on Luzhkov Most?

Answer: Road Block

At the end of a tough seventh leg of the race, teams arrived at the Trees of Love to find a Road Block clue waiting for them. For this task, one member of each team had to unlock a race flag from one of the trees using a ring of a hundred keys. Following this they could use their only hint-- a 100-ruble note-- to race to the Pit Stop at the Bolshoi Theatre. All six teams completed the Road Block over the course of the day, but two of the teams did so much later at night following horrible flight troubles and one team-- James and Abba-- had their bags (and a passport) stolen by a Russian cab driver.

The following leg also took teams through tasks in Moscow.
6. In Leg 9, teams had the chance to eat either soused herring or poffertjes on the canals of what European city?

Answer: Amsterdam

Teams flew to the Netherlands in Leg 9, completing tasks in and around the capital city of Amsterdam. All teams had the chance to ride around on the canals, but Natalie and Nadiya took to them in an amphibious boat, eating soused herring during their ride to win the second of two Fast Forwards featured this season.

They won the leg as a result, heading to the Pit Stop in the town of Ransdorp, previously seen in "The Amazing Race 12".
7. At the start of Leg 10, teams had a mandatory amount of time waiting for a ferry in what Spanish city?

Answer: Barcelona

With only four teams left, the race headed into Leg 10 with a great deal of 'getting around' as teams flew from The Netherlands to the sunny Mediterranean city of Barcelona, Spain. There, teams were equalized at the Port of Barcelona as they were required to take an overnight ferry across the waters to the island of Mallorca. Fortunately, it allowed for a bit of downtime on the beach-- a rare occurrence during the busy timeline of the race.
8. In Leg 10 in Mallorca, Spain, teams visited the town of Sa Pobla for one of the Detour tasks. For this, what did participating teams need to do?

Answer: Repair the windmills

Racing around the Balearic Island of Mallorca throughout Leg 10, the final four teams faced the heat as they engaged in a series of physical tasks punctuated by the first self-driving instances of the race. For the Road Block, team members played tennis in Rafael Nadal's hometown and, after cooling down in some caves, teams embarked on a Detour task involving either the repair of local windmills or bullfighting.

This was a non-elimination leg that ended atop Bellver Castle in Palma de Mallorca.
9. Visiting France's Loire Valley in Leg 11, teams visited the final resting place of which famous person?

Answer: Leonardo da Vinci

The penultimate leg of the race had teams taking the train from the Catalan coast in Barcelona all the way up to the Loire Valley in Central France. The tasks here involved a great deal of rural work and sightseeing at the region's palatial chateaus, but one Route Info clue directed teams to the Chapel of Saint-Hubert at the Château d'Amboise.

Here, teams collected their Detour clue at the final resting place of Leonardo Da Vinci. Teams also visited the Château de Villandry, Château de Cheverny, and the Pit Stop at the Château de Chenonceau.
10. Which New York City destination was the site of the race's noteworthy final Road Block involving greetings and farewells from the course?

Answer: The United Nations Headquarters

The final leg of the race took teams to New York City where the final three teams raced around Brooklyn and Manhattan completing their last several tasks. After a stop at Coney Island and the Brooklyn Navy Yard, they delivered pizza on Manhattan and proceeded to the U.N.

Headquarters for one last difficult task in which one member of each team had to identify 'hellos' and 'goodbyes' presented to them at Pit Stops throughout the race and match them with their national flags. It took teams two and a half hours before anyone left the challenge and headed to the finish line at Gotham Hall (where Josh and Brent had their first and only first place finish, taking the prize)!
