Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first leg of the race involved a Double Road Block situation in what city?

Answer: Shanghai

Interestingly, the city of Shanghai played host to the first double Road Block of the show in season 16. This time, however, teams started by taking a taxi to the Yuanshen Sports Center Stadium where one team member had to play table tennis and score one point against a Chinese Junior Champion to get their clue. James, Caitlin, James, Abbie, Natalie, Daniel, Kelley, Trey, Rob, Gary, and Josh completed this task. Following this, all teams took taxis to the Cui Ping Jiu Jia Restaurant where the other teammate needed to eat a traditional Chinese dessert (frog fallopian tubes served in a papaya). Abba, Ryan, Brittany, Amy, Jaymes, Nadiya, Ron, Lexi, Shiela, Will, and Brent were forced to stomach this task.
2. In Leg 2, team members had to create balloon hats and animals in Indonesia. How many creations had to be made to collect their next clue?

Answer: Eight

Reaching the Genteng Kali Bridge in Surabaya, Indonesia, teams had to determine who of the two of them 'likes to party'. That person needed to hop onto a device known as an odong-odong and pedal four children around on it, all the while making two balloon creations per child-- one hat and one animal. If they could get all eight done, all the while pedalling, they could receive their next clue. James, Amy, Abbie, Jaymes, Lexi, Nadiya, Josh, Caitlin, Will, and Rob completed this task.
3. The Road Blocks teams encountered in Legs 4 and 5 were completed in what Asian nation?

Answer: Bangladesh

Two Road Blocks awaited teams during the two legs of the race held in Dhaka, Bangladesh. In the first of these, teams visited Rubel Model Auto Mobiles where one person needed to 'fill in the gaps' by repairing a Dhaka bus, using putty to fill in damage and sanding it down.

They then needed to bring three pairs of seats to the refurbishing area. In Leg 5, teams had to weigh supplies using ancient scales in the town of Demra to get their next clue.
4. In Leg 6, teams served which of these drinks to patrons in the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul, Turkey?

Answer: Sherbet

Teams ended off Leg 6 in Istanbul with a Road Block task at Kapalıçarşı, the city's famous Grand Bazaar, where one person needed to 'pour their heart out'. For this task, the selected teammate needed to serve Turkish sherbet to forty people, accumulating a total of 40 Turkish lira for their efforts. Of course, they needed to dress the part and serve the drinks from a traditional ibrik. Lexi, Ryan, Abba, Natalie, James (of Jaymes and James), Brent, and Kelley completed this task before heading out to the Pit Stop on the edge of the Bosphorus, next to the MV Savarona.
5. How many locks did team members need to remove during the 'Trees of Love' Road Block in Moscow (in Leg 7)?

Answer: Ten

Completing their Detour (or not, as the case may be), teams took taxis to the Luzhkov Bridge to find a clue at the 'Trees of Love', large metal trees covered in locks, where one member of each team had to 'unlock the future' by using a ring of a hundred keys to begin opening the ten locks attached to a race flag.

This would, in turn, release more keys to complete the remaining locks on the flag. Once all ten locks were opened, they could open the flag to find a small canister containing their next clue-- a 100-ruble note-- which would show an image of their seventh Pit Stop: the Bolshoi. Trey, James, Natalie, Abba, Abbie, and Josh completed this task.
6. Which team utilized the Express Pass to skip the time zone Road Block in Moscow (in Leg 8)?

Answer: Natalie and Nadiya

Natalie and Nadiya won an Express Pass for placing first in the second leg of the race (in Surabaya, Indonesia) and had until the end of Leg 8 to use it. As such, upon arriving at the Moscow Agricultural Academy, they presented their Express Pass to move on. For this task, team members were shown the nine time zones on a Russian map and were asked to calculate the times in five cities shown to them based on the time in Moscow. If they could properly calculate the time zones based on the puzzle they could submit their answers to get their clue. Jaymes, Lexi, Ryan, and Brent completed the task; Natalie skipped it. Abba also completed the task though it was not aired; he and James had fallen so far behind due to their passport issues that they were eliminated late in the day.
7. The Road Block in Leg 9 was a Switchback task occurring at the same spot in what "Amazing Race 12" country?

Answer: The Netherlands

Although all of these locations appeared in "The Amazing Race 12", teams who visited Ransdorp, The Netherlands in the race's second leg had to complete a ditch-vaulting Road Block in which the selected team member needed to use a pole to vault themselves twelve feet across a muddy trench.

This time around, for the Switchback, James, Trey, Josh, and Ryan had to collect a pair of wooden shoes with their Pit Stop indicated on them to complete the task (before vaulting back over to their partners). Neither Natalie nor Nadiya completed the task since they won the Fast Forward, skipping the bulk of the leg.
8. At the Centro de Alto Rendimiento in Mallorca, Spain, what did team members need to play during their Leg 10 Road Block task?

Answer: Tennis

Taking a leg on the island of Mallorca, Spain, teams located the Centro de Alto Rendimiento in the town of Manacor, the hometown of Rafael Nadal. There, one team member needed to 'get smashed', facing off against a ball shooter and two baskets of tennis balls. If the participating teammate could return twenty balls, having them land inbound on the other side of the court, they could receive their next clue. Trey, James, Josh, and Nadiya completed this task.
9. In Leg 11, only one team had the ability to choose who participated in the mushroom-hunting Road Block. Which team was it?

Answer: Natalie and Nadiya

To end of the penultimate leg of the race, teams had to pick their 'fun guy', and that person needed to enter a French limestone cavern to search a subterranean farm for three distinct types of mushrooms. Once they collected ten of each, they could put them in a basket (retrieved at the start of the leg), and bring them back for assessment. Lexi, Jaymes, and Brent, had no choice but to complete this task to meet a minimum amount of Road Blocks going into the final leg. Natalie and Nadiya had more freedom, however, as they claimed the Fast Forward in Amsterdam, keeping their Road Block count lower than the rest; Natalie elected to complete this one.
10. The final Road Block of the race relied on team members' knowledge of which of these?

Answer: Languages

The final leg of the race, set in New York City, featured two Road Blocks. While the first involved a Houdini-like escape (and a bungee freefall) for Trey, Brent, and Jaymes at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the second was the final task of the entire race, and the challenge was locked in for Lexi, Josh, and James since they opted out of the first. For this second Road Block, teams reached the United Nations Headquarters where they needed to identify the Hellos and Goodbyes of the nine UN member nations they visited in the race and hoist them up appropriate matching flagpoles in order.

The task took more than two and a half hours to complete before Josh and Brent rode off to secure a first place victory and a million dollars.
