"The Amazing Race 21" [2] Trivia Quiz

In Leg 3, teams departed from their second Pit Stop in Pabean Market, Surabaya on the island of Java, one of the world's most populated islands. All nine remaining teams left within an hour and a half of each other with the lading four teams departing within fifteen minutes.

Heading out, they were told to make their way to the Antika Jaya Padang Restaurant where their next clue box would be waiting outside. They were also told to exercise caution as there would be a U-Turn appearing somewhere within this third leg of the race.

Answer: Serve it

Arriving at the restaurant, teams located a clue box containing a Road Block. For this task, teams needed to choose one member to 'serve up a balanced meal'. The team members had to enter the kitchen of the restaurant and balance twenty dishes on their arms to serve to a table of customers Padong-style. If any of the dishes dropped during the task, they'd need to start all over. Abbie, Trey, Brent, Jaymes, James, Nadiya, Brittany, Rob, and Gary completed this task before continuing onward to the Surabaya Gubeng Train Station.

Answer: 'Lion's Head'

Once teams arrived at the Surabaya Gubeng Train Station, teams needed to hop aboard a train to the city of Bangil. En route, they would need to keep their eyes peeled for their next clue being handed out by a food vendor. Teams were inadvertently split onto two different trains and they received a Detour, a choice between 'Lion's Head' and 'Egg Head'. 'Lion's Head' was completed by everyone except for Josh and Brent. For this task, both team members needed to don large (forty pound) lion heads and traditional outfits, then perform in a procession around Alun-alun Park in Bangil. If they reached the end they could receive their next clue.

Answer: Gary and Will

After the Detour, teams needed to head to Perliman Pos. I to find a Double U-Turn (and a Blond one, no less). Here, Rob and Kelley, one of the duos in the back pack, decided to U-Turn Gary and Will to force them to complete the 'Egg Head' Detour task. For this task they needed to purchase two eggs each from a local market and then transport them to Alun-alun where they had to have them cooked in flaming coconut husks on their head before eating them with hot sauce. Gary and Will also decided to used the Double U-Turn, but inadvertently tried to turn around Rob and Kelley, who'd already checked into the Pit Stop.

This had no effect.

Answer: Caitlin and Brittany

After stopping in front of the Double U-Turn, the teams needed to take local transportation to the next Pit Stop at the SMA Negri I Bangil High School. Here, Abbie and Ryan were narrowly able to arrive in first place yet again (they'd placed first in the first leg of the race as well).

They ended up winning a trip for two to the Fiji islands courtesy of Travelocity before being followed in by Trey and Lexi. In a very close finish, Caitlin and Brittany arrived in last place behind eternal underdogs Gary and Will because their driver took the wrong fork in the road.

They became the third eliminated team.

Answer: Dhaka

Leaving the SMA Negri I Bangil High School late in the evening, teams were instructed to fly more than two thousand six hundred miles to the capital city of Bangladesh, Dhaka. Because there were no flights until ten in the morning, all eight remaining teams ended up taking the same trip via Singapore. Upon their arrival, teams had to hop into a taxi and make their way through the city to Rubel Model Auto Mobiles, a bus repair shop at which many of the city's public transportation vehicles are repaired and refurbished.

Answer: James and Abba

Arriving at Rubel Model Auto Mobiles, teams had the opportunity to go for their first Fast Forward in the race. This task would allow one team to skip all remaining tasks and head directly to the next Pit Stop. James and Abba were the only team to opt for this task. To complete it, they needed to travel on foot to three different locations in Dhaka acting as rat catching assistants.

They needed to bring a large bag and fill it with dead rats collected from each location before returning to their starting point to collect their clue.

Answer: Abbie

Arriving at Rubel Model Auto Mobiles, teams were asked 'who wants to fill in the gaps?' For this task, one member of each team needed to get their hands dirty by repairing a city bus. First, they needed to create a specific type of putty used to seal holes on the side of the vehicle.

They then needed to spread the putty to a proper consistency on the side before getting it okayed and sanding it down. After this, that member had to remove two sets of two seats from the back of another bus and bring them to a station to be refurbished. Only after this could they collect their next clue. Ryan, Natalie, James, Rob, Josh, Trey, and Will completed this task.

Answer: Mattresses

After the Road Block, teams had to travel by taxi to the Kawran Bazaar Shootkir Market in Dhaka where both members had to locate a market stall selling bags of dried fish. Then, they had to sift through one of the many bags to find one containing a fish coloured red and yellow (like a race flag).

This allowed them to collect their Detour task, a choice between 'Pound the Metal' and 'Pound the Cotton'. In 'Pound the Metal', teams had to use sledgehammers and a hand-pumped bellows to beat a hot metal rod into a proper shape. Natalie and Nadiya, Rob and Kelley, and Trey and Lexi did this task.

In 'Pound the Cotton', teams had to make a mattress by first beating clumps of cotton into a feather-like consistency, then filling and sewing it up. Abbie and Ryan, Josh and Brent, Jaymes and James, and Gary and Will finished this task.

Answer: Gary and Will

After the Detour, teams were told to travel by taxi to Keranigonj Kholamora Ghat to grab a ride aboard a riverboat. This riverboat would need to take them to the other side of the river, specifically to Swarighat in Old Dhaka. Once there they could proceed on foot to the Pit Stop at Shambazaar Chan Mia Gha on the river's edge. James and Abba (with the Fast Forward secured) placed first and won a trip for two to Antigua courtesy of Travelocity. Gary and Will made a mistake late in the leg which forced them to cross the river twice, and despite other teams' bad luck it was they who were eliminated from the race in eighth place.
