At the beginning of the episode, Donna and Josh discuss the fact that they are leaving the office before nine o'clock. Josh attributes this to "the well-placed, well-worded memo. Nobody goes off the reservation, everybody does their job." However, at that exact time, Donna is watching the online chat with the Surgeon General who is discussing the decriminalization of marijuana.

After the online chat by the Surgeon General, the Senior Staff go into hyper mode and discuss the options of how to deal with her comments and how long they have before the President has to get involved. The result is a discussion trying to figure out what time it is in Japan.

Leo sends Josh to speak with Millicent Griffith. Josh questions her on the online chat and she replies, "As a doctor, I have an obligation to tell the truth. He seems less than pleased with the current state of events as well as being annoyed that his daughter rang a reporter to make a comment on the record in favour of the Surgeon General.

Millicent offers the President her resignation and he asks, "You didn't pick up the phone after Josh came to see you and say, "Ellie, it's your godmother, let's stick it to your old man, and paint him into a corner?" The President ends up not accepting Millicent's resignation and makes things up with Ellie.
