Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What instrument did team members learn to play during the race's first Road Block in Tobago?

Answer: Steel pan

A music and rhythm task made all the sense in the world when teams raced off to Trinidad and Tobago in a race first during the debut leg of this season. The final task of the leg took teams to the beach at Pigeon Point where they had to join local musicians in learning how to play the steel pan with a band accompaniment. If they could master all of the provided verses to the 'Banana Boat Song' ("Day-O"), they could race to the Pit Stop and, hopefully, avoid elimination. Michelle, Maddison, Will, Frank, Chee, Gary, Cody, Eswar, Leo, Kaylynn, and Kellie participated in this task.
2. In Leg 2, team members visiting the Road Block in Bogotá, Colombia completed their task at which of these locations?

Answer: Circus

Teams headed to the big top of Escuela Nacional Circo Para Todos in Bogotá, Colombia for their second Road Block of the race, and there, DeAngelo, Hung, Riley, Will, Aparna, Victoria, Alana, Frank, Haley, and LaVonne had to clown around. After donning clown make-up, the selected teammates needed to take a spin in the wheel of death (like a giant hamster wheel) and then climb up to the tent's tightropes where, holding a tray of wine bottles and glasses and an umbrella, they had to traverse the wire twice without falling or dropping their items to get their next clue.
3. In Leg 4, teams' Road Block in Paraguay involved constructing which musical instrument from discarded items?

Answer: Cello

Reaching the Cateura Landfill in Asunción, Paraguay, teams had to assist the Orquesta de Reciclados de Cateura, the Landfill Orchestra, in creating a recycled instrument from discarded items that could be used by children learning how to perform music. With a list of items to hunt for and an example, the selected team members (Maddison, Eswar, Leo, DeAngelo, Chee, James, Michelle, and Kaylynn) had to create a cello to receive their next clue.
4. In Leg 5, teams completed two separate Road Blocks in which country?

Answer: France

The fifth leg, which flew teams to Paris, involved a double Road Block wherein one team member needed to have an eye for detail looking through the art at the Musée Condé in Chantilly and the other had to participate in carnival games at Musée des Arts Forains in Paris. Because this leg of the race contained two Road Blocks, there was no Detour task featured.
5. For their Road Block in Leg 6, teams needed to find letters to spell out what German word?

Answer: Sauerkraut

Visiting Berlin in the race's sixth leg, teams encountered a Road Block that forced one member of each team to perform a face-first rappel down the side of a hotel. Along the way, DeAngelo, Maddison, Hung, Will, Aparna, Leo, and Haley had to keep their eyes peeled for ten specific letters which, when unscrambled, could spell out the word SAUERKRAUT.

The word would be the key to their next clue. If they didn't get it sorted, they would need to take the plunge again.
6. In Hyderabad, India, teams completed a Mega-Leg containing double the tasks of a normal leg of the race. Their first Road Block in this city occurred at what landmark?

Answer: Qutb Shahi Tombs

Visiting the Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah Mausoleum at the Qutb Shahi Tombs, teams found the Road Block waiting outside, and for this one the selected members engaged with the old world and the new by using tablets and an augmented reality app to locate computer-projected men wearing unique turbans in the building.

Heading to the roof, they then needed to find a man in a matching turban and place him by his marked pillar. If they could get three of these correct they could get their clue. James, Gary, Eswar, Riley, Chee, and Kaylynn participated in this one.
7. The Mega-Leg in Hyderabad ended on a second Road Block. Because this was the second Road Block of the leg, the team member who completed the first was NOT eligible to complete the place setting task.

Answer: False

Although this is typically the case for legs of the race that contain two Road Block tasks, the Mega-Leg was considered a double-length leg (featuring two Detours, two Road Blocks, and two Yields). As such, the second Road Block, which involved placing table settings at India's longest dining table in Taj Falaknuma Palace, allowed open choice of contestant. Riley, Gary, and James each did both this task and the preceding one (at the Qutb Shahi tombs).
8. The ninth leg brought teams to Cambodia where, during the Road Block, team members completed a slide puzzle bearing which of these?

Answer: The Travelocity Roaming Gnome

Visiting the Khmer Floor Handicraft center in Siem Reap, Cambodia, Riley, DeAngelo, Chee, Will, and Eswar were tasked with learning how to make a beautiful artisan tile using methods employed by local craftsmen. If they could successfully make a full tile they could use it as part of a nine-piece slide puzzle bearing the image of the Travelocity Roaming Gnome which would subsequently allow them to get their next clue and head to the Pit Stop.
9. Though one team member would search through king cakes in the first Road Block of Leg 11, both partners needed to work together to eat how many beignets to complete the task?

Answer: Six

Heading to New Orleans' French Quarter in the final leg of the race, the final three teams were met with two last Road Blocks before heading to the finish line, and in the first of these, they had to travel to the Cafe Beignet and one team member needed to find a small baby hidden in one of the many king cakes prepared for them. If Will, Maddison, and Chee could locate the little toy, then they AND their partner needed to stomach six rich pastries before continuing racing.
10. The final Road Block of the race had team members leaping off what New Orleans landmark?

Answer: Crescent City Connection Bridge

Opening a second Road Block clue in New Orleans, team members were sent to perform a leap from a beam beneath the Crescent City Connection Bridge with the aim to nab a clue suspended over the dark, nighttime waters of the Mississippi River below. If James, Hung, and Riley could make the leap they could reunite with their partner and both could continue down the side of the massive bridge to continue racing through their last tasks.
