Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first Detour of the race wasn't encountered until Leg 3. While one task asked teams to help construct a house in Brazil, what was required of the other?

Answer: Cooking a meal

Teams took a boat along the Rio Negro out of Manaus, Brazil in Leg 3 and spent a frantic Detour, the first of the race, in the Dessana Village. Here, teams chose one of two tasks, each utilizing items that they purchased at a riverside market before embarking on their trip.

In 'Shelter From Trees', teams carried palm fronds to a newly-built jungle house and, using tools and equipment, they had to help roof the building. In 'Well Done Please', teams needed to cook a three-course Amazonian meal for the locals again using items they bought.
2. Leg 3 saw the first Double U-Turn of the race. Did anyone utilize it?

Answer: Yes

Leg 3 proved to be a frantic experience for teams who struggled to read their clues and transport their items into the Amazon. When they finally completed the Detour, they were told to race on foot to the longhouse on the beach to determine if they would use the Double U-Turn (or be forced to complete their other Detour task). Will and James, perturbed by Leo and Alana's tactics in the previous leg, used the first slot on the couple while Kaylynn and Haley U-Turned Frank and Jerry; both teams had to go back to complete 'Shelter From Trees'.

This would result in the latter duo's elimination.
3. The fourth leg of the race featured the first-ever Double Switchback wherein the Detour involved two tasks previously seen on "The Amazing Race 20". When encountered this time around, did any teams take a penalty?

Answer: No

Though eventual winners Rachel and Dave took a two hour penalty for failing to complete the bottle task as a Road Block in "The Amazing Race 20", none of the teams opted out of either side of the Detour this time around, completing either 'Stack Your Melons' or 'Use Your Melon' in Asunción, Paraguay.

In 'Stack Your Melons', teams had to create massive watermelon pyramid (with a base of 10x10) without it falling over while in 'Use Your Melon', teams needed to perform a traditional Paraguayan bottle dance without their bottles breaking to get their next clue and head to the Pit Stop.
4. Teams completing the 'Belch It Out' Detour option in Germany (in Leg 6) did so with which of these in hand?

Answer: Beer

To close out Leg 6, teams needed to complete one of two tasks involving weird Berlin activities. In 'Belt It Out', Will and James, Eswar and Aparna, Leo and Alana, and Kaylynn and Haley had to learn a German song known as "I Wish I Were a Chicken" and perform it alongside the Berlin Comedian Harmonists.

In 'Belch It Out', Hung and Chee, DeAngelo and Gary, Riley and Maddison learned Bieryoga, mastering four poses (all done with a beer bottle in hand) and teaching them to a class of yoga practitioners.
5. In Leg 7, teams visited Kazakhfilm Studio in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Which team did not complete the 'Knock Out Guy' Detour option?

Answer: Hung and Chee

Visiting Kazakhfilm Studio at the start of Leg 7, teams needed to engage as viewers or active participants in one of two ongoing film sequences. In 'Great Khan's Spy', teams observed a highly-detailed film scene from within, standing in a major mongol battle while trying to identify answers to unknown questions they would be asked upon filming's conclusion while in 'Knock Out Guy', teams learned a series of film stunts before acting them properly on camera. Hung and Chee joined Leo and Alana and Kaylynn and Haley in the former task while the other four teams did the latter.
6. During the Mega-Leg in Hyderabad, teams' 'Number Trap' Detour allowed them to decode a message with which of these?

Answer: Binary

In 'Number Trap', teams engaged with Hyderabad, India's tech sector by visiting a local programming house to play a motion-sensor game collecting binary numbers. Once they collected enough they could start to crack a code from binary digits and use the words created to find their next clue in the building. Teams not finishing this task instead completed 'Food App', joining tech in a different way to deliver three food orders using an Indian delivery app.
7. The second Detour of the Mega-Leg in Hyderabad, India was a Blind Detour. One option involved jewellery, but what was involved in the other?

Answer: Dentures

Teams visited the Charminar in Hyderabad, India in Leg 8 as they crossed into the second half of their Mega-Leg, and it was there that teams were given little more than directions to their respective tasks-- 'This' or 'That'. In 'This', Riley and Maddison, DeAngelo and Gary, and Will and James ventured into the nearby marketplace and, after transporting a cart of jewellery, fitted a local bride with seven bangles from their conveyance.

In 'That', Eswar and Aparna, Hung and Chee, and Kaylynn and Haley instead visited a local dentist to fit patients for dentures.
8. The Detour task in Siem Reap, Cambodia, encountered in Leg 9, involved one of two challenges set in which environment?

Answer: Floating village

In Leg 9, teams took boats out onto Tonlé Sap and completed their final Detour of the race at the floating village of Chong Kneas. While DeAngelo and Gary, Riley and Maddison, and Eswar and Aparna completed 'Fish', Hung and Chee and Will and James instead completed 'Farm'. Both utilized small items held with their Travelocity Roaming Gnomes, but both were vastly different.

In the former task, teams reeled in a half-mile-long net out of the lake and, when they were done sifting through the haul, they had to put aside fifteen kilograms of their catch to get their clue.

In the latter, teams planted a floating garden for the locals to grow their vegetables on the water.
9. Which team's picture did not appear on the Double U-Turn Board in Cambodia in Leg 9?

Answer: Hung and Chee

Since this was not a Blind U-Turn, photos were placed on the board to represent not only the recipient of the U-Turn, but the user. This meant that Eswar and Aparna were aware when they were U-Turned by DeAngelo and Gary and forced to complete the 'Farm' Detour choice. To protect their smaller alliance, Riley and Maddison subsequently U-Turned DeAngelo and Gary, blocking the second slot from being used.

It would ultimately be the death knell for the brother and sister team.
10. How many legs of "The Amazing Race 32" did not feature a Detour (counting the Mega-Leg in Hyderabad as a single leg)?

Answer: 5

One might consider this to be a low total, but this was a unique race in terms of structure. Detours were only featured in Legs 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9 with two (one normal one and a Blind Detour) in Leg 8's Mega-Leg course. The race also had two Double U-Turns-- a Blind one in Leg 3 (and Brazil) and another in Leg 9 (Cambodia). Each U-Turn slot ended up getting used.
