Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the episode "The Werewolf of Walnut Grove" who was the teacher that was being bullied by a mean boy named Bart?

Answer: Miss Eliza Jane Wilder

While Eliza Jane Wilder was teaching, a new boy named Bart moved to town and started attending school. He pretty much did whatever he wanted to, and talking to his father didn't do any good. The school children finally came up with a clever plan to make Bart behave, so that Miss Wilder would stay on as their teacher.
2. Who saved Nancy when she fell into a well?

Answer: Little Lou

Little Lou came into town to find a job after his wife died and left him with the baby, but Mrs. Oleson prevented him from finding any employment. She just didn't like the fact that he was a dwarf. She came to appreciate his small size, however, when Nancy fell into a well, and nobody but him could fit in there to rescue her.
3. Who saved Jenny two different times, in two different episodes, from drowning?

Answer: Jeb Carter

The first time Jeb saved her, she was trying to drown herself, because she wanted to be with her parents, who had both died. The second time, she almost drowned while trying to retrieve a necklace that had fallen off, and she'd gotten stuck under some branches in the pond. Jeb dove in and pulled her out of the water.
4. What was the name of the doctor who helped Jenny recover when she had problems speaking and walking after she nearly drowned?

Answer: Dr. Marvin

The episode is called "Marvin's Garden." Jenny goes to help Dr. Marvin with his flowers after she nearly drowns. She keeps him company, and he helps her to learn to do more things for herself.
5. When Jenny was left barely able to speak and walk after she nearly drowned, a certain doctor helped her recover. Jenny was the doctor's very last patient. Why was that?

Answer: Because he was going blind

Dr. Marvin couldn't renew his medical license because he was losing his sight. He told Jenny she was his last patient. At the end of the episode, it showed Jenny hand him some flowers, and she had
to tell him what kind of flowers they were, because he was totally blind.
6. What was the name of the first boy that Nellie married?

Answer: Luke

7. What was the name of the song written by an old friend of Almanzo's, Brenda Sue Longworth, whom Laura got in a fight with?

Answer: My Only Love

When Brenda Sue came into town, Laura was a little bit jealous. She was afraid Manly might have feelings for her. When she saw a note that Almanzo had written that said "My Only Love, Brenda Sue Longworth," Laura assumed the note was saying who Almanzo's only love was.

She didn't know Almanzo had written down that information so he could try to find the song when he went to the city. Laura was very upset and stayed with her parents. The next time she saw Brenda Sue, Laura tackled her to the ground and started beating her up.
8. Where was Charles working when he was forced to quit because of Albert's problems?

Answer: In a men's clothing store

The family had moved to the city and Charles was working at a men's clothing store. When his less than understanding boss wouldn't allow him time off to take care of some problems Albert was having, Charles was forced to quit.
9. Which people from Walnut Grove ended up in jail because they got mixed up with the outlaws "The Younger Brothers?"

Answer: Almanzo, Mr. Edwards, and John Carter

Through a funny series of events, Mr. Edwards ended up in jail first, because of his mistaken involvement with the "Younger Brothers." When Almanzo and John Carter went to try to fix the situation, they also got thrown in jail.
10. What was Mrs. McAndrews, whom Jeb Carter was working for, trying to escape from by moving to Walnut Grove?

Answer: Her alcoholic past

Mrs. Oleson was once again listening in on telephone conversations, and heard Mrs. McAndrews talking about her alcoholic past. Jeb's rich grandfather was in town at the time, and he published a gossip article Mrs. Oleson wrote that revealed Mrs. McAndrews secret in the towns newspaper. This caused a lot of hurt for the poor woman, who just wanted a fresh start in Walnut Grove.
11. Who do Laura and Almanzo share their anniversary with?

Answer: Mary and Adam

After things are patched up between them, Laura and Almanzo decide to get married on the spur of the moment at the blind school. Charles and Caroline were already there, visiting Mary and Adam on their anniversary. Almanzo and Adam say the best reason for Laura and Almanzo to get married then is so they all share an anniversary and the men can remind each other not to forget it!
12. What impairment did Albert's pen pal Leslie Barton have?

Answer: She was in a wheelchair

While writing to each other, Leslie and Albert embellished their letters quite a bit. Albert said he was the tallest boy in school, and Leslie said she danced in a ballet. That would have been impossible for her, since she was confined to a wheelchair.

15. What is the name of the orangutan that Mr. Edwards take care of for a short time?

Answer: Blanche

Luckily, Mr. Edwards finds a zoo that will take poor Blanche just before the deed is done.
