The man complained to Jack about the mysterious rash, which Jack diagnosed as hives brought on by stress. (Sun used an aloe plant to help it.) Jack and Hurley noticed that everyone on the island seemed to be extremely tense. Hurley wanted to think of a way to have fun, while Jack was determined to concentrate on curing hypochondriacs and finding a way to survive.

Jack told Hurley that the most important thing to focus on was surviving, and that things could be worse.
"How?" Hurley cried. He was convinced that everyone needed a way to have fun if they were to survive. At that moment, Ethan returned from hunting with a bag that seemed to have come from the plane. (It had just what Hurley needed.)

The question was repeated as a dazed Sayid regained consciousness. "Where is Alex?" in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Swedish, and Russian. Sayid had stumbled upon a wire on the beach, which lead him directly into a trap. He called out that he didn't know who Alex was, and was electrocuted.

The French woman emerged with wild hair and eyes when she hears about the transceiver message that played for sixteen years. She asked wonderingly, "Has it been that long?"

The other officer told Sayid that they believed Nadia knew who had orchestrated the bombing that killed two soldiers. He wanted Sayid to torture Nadia and find out the answers.

When Sayid entered and Nadia recognized him, she told him that it was not her first interrogation and showed him the previous scars. She reminded him of when they were school children and when she used to push Sayid in the mud because he ignored her. He remained firm, but Nadia told him to do his work because she would not tell him anything.

The envelope contained photos of Nadia, which Rousseau inquired about. Sayid told her about Nadia, and she revealed that her first name was Danielle. He was able to get her to speak about Robert, but she would not explain who Alex was. Danielle called Sayid one of the "others".

Sayid told Danielle (as she was about to shoot him) that he had held on for seven years since Nadia died. The longer he held on, Sayid explained, the further apart he grew from the world around him. Danielle took heart to his explanation and didn't shoot.
